Received my mixed breed dog from Dapper claiming this was a special dog and 6 years later couldn’t be happier. Geri guided me to this dog that was in foster care and she was a wonderful replacement for my dog that had just died. Very satisfied as dog is wonderful and healthy

Went to adopt a puppy. Called the day before for information etc. went next day, Sunday. We knew which puppy we wanted to adopt. Owner said one of us had to be a stay at home mom. There are 5 of us working different hours; always someone home. Owner said no. There must be a stay at home mom! Or, you must take 2 puppies. Are you kidding me??? We left so disappointed. But all turned out well. We adopted from pets4luv. So happy with our Ariel. Would never ever recommend dapper dog. Not ever.

I’ve gotten 50 messages about this horrid place. Selling puppies at 6 weeks old for $ 350 with no shots or spaying. There is no transport fee from the puppy mill they are in cahoots with. Why do they say there is one? Most shelters the shots and the spaying is included in the cost of the adoption fee. Not here.They have scammed people out of money and the DA is being called. One message after another about how horribly they were treated and the poor dogs too. Sick dogs. neglect and filth. Either all these people are truly crazy who have had horrible experiences there. or they are the best grifters ever.
Do not give money to these lecherous people. I will get an investigation going into the fiances and all these complaints. I hope they never reopen. Someone has to stop this from happening over and over.

Boy was I wrong. I had recently posted a glowing review of Gerry and her knowledge of dogs boy I couldn’t have been more wrong. My wife and I had purchased a Black Lab/​Shepherd mix from her, the puppy was only 6 weeks old when she sold her to us. I questioned her about that, she said the puppy would adjust fine. After ²¹⁄₂ weeks the puppy showed all signs of separation anxiety. After consulting 2 dog trainers and my vetanarian they agreed it would take medication and training to manage this problem. When I called her back to let her know what was going on with my puppy she told me to bring the puppy back and she would refund my $ 300. When I got there she took the puppy and the signed paper work and refused to give me back my $ 300. She said it was for transporting the puppy from Virginia. I said to her when you put this puppy on Facebook tomorrow and sell it again to some other family is that for transportation also. In my opinion she’s a double talker and liar. I also said whoever adopts this puppy should be made aware about this puppies issues. It’ll take a special family to care for this puppy. Unfortunately my wife and I didn’t have all the time and finance’s that it would take to help this puppy. Her reply to me was I didn’t run the puppy enough, talk about being clueless. Please beware of this Lady.

The lady who works here is absolutely nuts! (As you can read from all the comments). One summer, my dog went under our fence and wandered off. I went looking for him around my neighborhood and couldn’t find him. I checked PetsMart, called my vet, went to Hi-​Tor to see if anyone found him. I got a call from Hi-​Tor saying my dog was brought into Dapper Dog. Upon arrival the lady was extremely rude and refused to give my dog back. She yelled at me and asked why I didn’t call the cops. I calmly told her I went all over Rockland and that’s how I ended up here bc Hi-​Tor called me. She then said I clearly wasn’t responsible enough to have a dog. She asked me if I even knew my dog had an ear infection. I told her yes, he’s currently has medicine and it’s a chronic because he has allergies. She then demanded that I call my parents. So I called my home and the first thing she even asked my mother was if she spoke english. WTF yes my parents speak english, just because my mother has an accent she had no reason to belittle her. My father then came to Dapper Dog and she still refused to give our dog back. My father was furious and demanded we get our dog back. She threatened us and said she’s reporting us and having cops check our home. We told her to go ahead and she finally gave our dog back. While we were leaving Dapper Dog she ran out and wrote our license plate down. We then took my dog to the vet the next day and explained what happened and our Vet even says she’s notoriously known to be crazy and think everyone abuses animals.
Honestly this lady is downright crazy. I was so distraught thinking I wouldn’t find my dog and was scared that he could’ve gotten ran over so when I finally found him I was so relieved. However, she has no right to judge a family.
Read all the reviews here. It is so scary to know that this lady still runs a business.

I have been wanting to adopt a dog for quite some time now and have been doing extensive research about rescues in the Rockland and Westchester counties. Despite all of the negative reviews, I decided to give this place a try. Boy did these 1 star reviews not lie.
It started off fine… Interacted with a younger gentleman whom just returned from a rescue of 3 beautiful black lab puppies. I expressed no urgency in adopting as I believe this process should not be rushed, just really wanted to see what dogs they had up for adoption.
As I looked at the dogs in the back, they had the 3 lab puppies running around together while an older lady was grooming a dog. We got into conversation and she began asking me questions. Have you ever had a dog? When I advised her that I had not… that was the turning point for her. She began to carry on about how I should really think harder about adopting a dog. She also asked about my work scheduled… I advised her I do work 2 longer days a week, I also have 4 days off. Before I could finish my sentence and provide an explanation, I could tell she was already done with me. I ultimately left the facility feeling horrible. She made it seem as if I was incapable of owning a dog.
During the midst of this conversation she was screaming for 2 dogs to shut up and pretty much flinging the puppies because they were chewing on the wire while she was grooming another dog.
When looking to adopt a dog out, there should be other factors that should be considered. I have a significant amount of experiencing with dogs because I have volunteered at many rescue centers and have multiple family members whom are dog owners. I have thought about adopting for well over a year and a half. I have a successful career as a manager in the medical field, the dog would not be created, would have his or her own bedroom and would be adopted into a young, fun, loving and active family. But because I never owned a dog before none of that mattered.
Unfortunately, I will not be returning to Dapper Dog nor will I be recommending them and will be advising all that I possibly can about the terrible experience I had.

My husband (boyfriend at the time) and I went to adopt a dog from this «business». The woman in charge was asking us questions about our lives and our situation. When she found out we weren’t home ²⁴⁄₇ she responded in a abrupt, and rude way. She said «someone needs to be home with the puppy they need alot of attention». When I explained to her that I work varying hours and the most she’d be home alone is 4 – 5 hours that wasn’t good enough. She then went on to ask what would happen to the puppy WHEN we break up. At this point I was furious. We were still being respectful to her (why I don’t know) and said to IF that situation arose one of us would keep the dog and continue our life with her. We tried explaining that we’ve adopted several dogs with our families before and don’t believe in abandoning a pet for no reason. This still wasn’t good enough for her and she continued treat us as the worst people on this planet.
I wouldn’t recommend this place to anyone and don’t know how anyone can leave thier dog in the dirty condition that it was in. If she was this rude, hurtful and incompationate to us I can only image how she treats the pets in her care.
Being in the pet and customer service business for years I can’t believe this place still survives.

When I worked at a shelter, Gerry would do a lot of groomings on dogs that were in really bad shape with extensive matting. She did this at no cost but almost always the animals had to be shaved down to the skin and she would donate a sweater for the dog. She took in a badly matted Maltese that I had dropped off. Later in the day, I sent my husband to retrieve the dog and she expressed interest in keeping the dog and finding it a new home. She knew that the dog was slated to go to a home with a 72 year old woman and she started to make the argument that a 72 year old woman does not need a 9 month old dog, she should take an older dog. Well… the man that was picking up the dog… the 72 year old woman is his mother and the dog has had a great home for the past four years and he kept his mouth shut for the sake of his wife who still had to deal with her. Gerry is very outspoken and I think greedy because she thought she could find a «better home» with a younger person and make some good money on the adoption. She would be a lot better off if she didn’t employ age discrimination tactics when she is not a Spring Chicken herself.

Terrible experience adopting a dog. I adopted a 6 month old dog from Dapper Dog. They had just rescued him, he was so skinny and missing fur. My husband and I nursed him back to health and fell in love with him, we named him Pepper.
After Pepper was healthy and regained his confidence, he had some behavior issues, we worked with a trainer at that time. A few months later within the span of a few days, Pepper bit our cat and our landlord. I went to Dapper Dog to explain to Gerry what happened, and that obviously since he bit our landlord we couldn’t keep him, but since we had worked with a trainer I felt he could be put with another family who was able to continue working on his training. She said no, that he would have to be put down. I explained the entire situation again and begged for another solution. She said she did have a great trainer that they use to evaluate dogs, and that we should work with him to see if he thought Pepper was adoptable to another family.
So at her advice, we worked with this trainer. $ 500-​$ 600 later the trainer said he believed our dog was adoptable. I went back to Gerry to give her the good news and she said she would not take him back. I asked if I could continue to foster him while she puts him up for adoption online and she said no, that nobody would adopt him. I again explained the situation with the landlord, which meant I could not keep the dog any longer, and Gerry told me if I brought the dog to her she would have him put down.
I called hi tor who said they could maybe take him but that they needed to call Dapper Dog first because they didn’t want to take another shelter’s business. About 15 minutes later Gerry calls angrily asking me if I didn’t think she’d find out that I called hi tor, and to just bring the dog back to her. No way was I taking the dog back to her after she said she’d put him down!
Now he is at a beautiful dog sanctuary in Utica with a man who understands this type of behavior in dogs, no thanks to Gerry.
I’ve also seen terrible practices and dirty facilities in their grooming back room, but this review has gotten too long so I’ll let the other reviewers talk about that…

She stole a dog from a family, used misinformed info and has now placed that dog with another family. Authorities were contacted and the so called owner will not budge. The police can’t do anything and would have to take her to court. Gerry knew the family can’t afford to go to court and that their English is broken. She claims being harassed as well as the new owner but yet she calls the job of the RIGHTFUL owner to harass them. So has committed forgery and provided false information. This dog is clearly someone else’s and has all the paperwork for the Original adoption that wasn’t from her! A criminal, a fraud, cold hearted, dishonest, rude are just a few ways to describe the owner. Her actions and conduct are outright disgusting. To some she may be decent and that’s fine. Everyone is entitled to their opinion. Be Careful when you enter her establishment and or use her services. She might take advantage of your situation and use it to benefit her. Gerry, YOU HAVE NO RIGHT TO TELL LOVING FAMILIES THAT THEY CANNOT HAVE PETS nor RIP FAMILIES APART. People that reside in apartments, they are more than entitled to have dogs. YOU DESERVE TO BE PUT OUT OF BUSINESS!

I got my dog Casey there about two years ago — she evidently gets or DID get animals from a Texas no kill shelter — they are shipped in and she sells them — when getting my dog she told me it was a bull/​shepard mix — as it turned out it is a PITBULL shepherd mix not a BULLDOG/​shepherd mix — tomake a long story short the dog could not be controlled on the street despite behavioral specialists and I was forced to put her in HI Tor — when they called Gerry to speak to her she said she didnt KNOW me — she knows me QUITE well — I am beyond disgusted with her — her reputation in Nyack is very poor with many people having many complaints about the way she treats the animals — and her rude demeanor. I would advise people to stay away from her

Gerry is the kindest woman you will ever deal with when it comes to adopting a rescue. She is very thorough in her questions and wants to make sure you will be properly guided on what pet is an ideal fit. Puppies are not for everyone and she can determine this right away, DO NOT TAKE IT PERSONAL IT IS FOR YOUR BEST INTEREST! Trust me! She is a blessing to anyone who is considering adopting a pet and may think they know what the best match is but she will direct you in the direction and open your eyes to the best suited pet. Remember «Who Rescued who?» The perfect match is waiting for you, just be open to the direction of this wonderful woman who knows about dogs better than we all will, and trust her opinion! Oh and also, be prepared to spend a lot of money. $ 250 — $ 400 per adoption.

Went here to adopt a kitten, was told that if I plan to allow my cat outside that she would not adopt to me. After telling the incredibly rude and disrespect owner, that I have had cats my entire life, all who which were indoor/​outdoor cats, that «eventually my cat will die» as a result of me allowing him to hunt and be in nature. I’m not only offended… I’m rather angry about how I was treated. Not to mention the animals were all dirty and didn’t appear to have their cages cleaned regularly. Disgusted, annoyed and angry! I would have love to have given one of the kittens there a home.

I have gotten several rescues from Dapper Dog. Gerry is an angel. She cares about her animals and she’s been responsible for saving the lives of countless dogs and cats. Yes, she can be abrupt. But that’s a small price to pay for the kind of love and commitment she obviously has for these animals. She groomed my dog for 10 years. I’ve gotten 2 dogs and 3 cats from her. Highly recommend that you patronize Gerry and Dapper Dog.

Went there to adopt a dog. Incredibly rude and disrespectful. The lady told my wife that if she wasn’t a stay at home mom she shouldn’t have a dog. She said it in front of my kids who were upset with the whole experience.

Hi everyone reading this! My dog, Lexi, was a client at Dapper Dog from 1997, until her departure in 2013. I started bringing my other dog, Cubbie, there for bath, nails, and teeth cleanings. I have NEVER had a bad experience. I trust Geri and the staff. Everyone is entitled to their opinion and feelings but I truly love Geri, her husband Nick, and the entire team at Dapper Dog. I would recommend anyone, in a heartbeat. They know their stuff and the many years of being a customer has proven to be the right choice! Dapper Dog supports rescue… THEY ARE RESCUE! I support them!

This place is awful. They are mean and rude, and my dog left there and the next day he had an ear infection, a cold, and fleas. My dog has all his shots and is on frontline and he still ended up with all of that. Will NEVER take my dog back there. I hope no one else takes their dog here either. They don’t even require to see proper paperwork — so I’m sure there are a slue of un-​vaccinated dogs entering. Never again.

If I read the review first I would NEVER have brought my dog to get her nails clipped!
They handed me my dog back BLEEDING all over. They cut her nails too short and she was bleeding all over me. Never an apology! Nothing! Plus they made me pay FULL PRICE!
My poor baby :(
They even made me feel like I was an inconvenience that I was there

My dog got kennel cough from the dozens of stray dogs Geri collects and lets run free.
These are the ONLY animals she cares about –
She has always been arrogant and high handed with me; finally, the vet visit
for kennel cough turned me off for good.

Our dog got a terrible ear infection after being groomed here. Also, they had the audacity to charge me more for using a credit card vs cash.
