Gypsy Donut is the result of several years of planning by a group of friends with one goal – to bring incredibly delicious, well made and high-​quality artisan donuts and coffee to our beloved village of Nyack, NY. In 2015 we added craft beer, wine and spirits to our menu.

Donuts (and other great baked goodies) made by hand from scratch every day. Coffee and espresso drinks from Stumptown Coffee Roasters retail bags of coffee, organic food and drink and locally produced goods. After 3pm we serve Whisky, gin, rum and vodka from the Hudson River Valley. Beer from Defiant and other local brewers.

Everything we do is from scratch. When we make a donut with marshmallow fluff, we make the fluff ourselves. Likewise with our caramel, fruits, pastry creams and so on. There are no mixes used at Gypsy, no pre-​made batters, no artificial colors and no preservatives. The ingredient list for our donuts looks like this: flour, sugar, eggs, milk, yeast, love.

Gypsy Donut is the result of several years of planning by a group of friends with one goal – to bring incredibly delicious, well made and high-​quality artisan donuts and coffee to our beloved village of Nyack, NY. We are in the former Gracie’s Ravioli space at 18 North Franklin Street.

Our shop was built with VOC (Volatile Organic Material) Free materials, our lightbulbs are LED (which use a fraction of the power of conventional or fluorescent) and we’ve reclaimed and recycled tons of material for the construction. Our bar is from a pine tree that fell during the storms in October 2011 and was made for us by a local sawyer.

The brains and braun behind Gypsy donuts have been friends for decades and have some interesting backgrounds that come together perfectly for this business.

David Schloss is a lifelong foodie and loves to cook for people more than just about anything. He’s the founder of several businesses that have been run from Nyack and is an expert in social marketing and e-​commerce. That’s why we’re all over Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and other sites.

Can I start by saying I love how hipster this place is? Haha. It’s so cute and feels homey from the string lights to the Polaroids on the wall. However, i do wish it was slightly bigger and had more space to sit. The staff is super friendly and inviting which makes this place all the better. I got the maple bacon doughnut (which I’ve never had before so have nothing to compare it to) which I thought was pretty good. My only wish is that instead of three slabs of bacon, I wished the bacon on the doughnut were bits and evenly dispersed. I’m rolling my eyes at myself– I know that seems really silly to say. Anyway I also sampled pieces of my friend’s doughnuts: banana and salted caramel, which were both equally delicious. I was happy with my latte as it wasn’t too bitter or too sweet. My inner fat girl also compelled me to get the Rosemary provolone pesto brioche which was slightly greasy but so yummy! All in all, such a cute little spot that I so badly want to give 5 stars to.

I try to go here whenever i’m in town instead of that lame green apron coffee shop. The espresso at Gypsy Donut is top notch, coffee is hit or miss (sometimes it’s lukewarm), and the quality of the donuts depends on when you eat them. Fresh, they really are the stuff of dreams but if you get them later in the day it feels like you are eating an old dry sock.
My main problem with this place is the attitude of the baristas. Very rarely will anyone smile and welcome you when you walk in, or bother to make eye contact with you when you’re paying, but they’ll stand around chatting with each other. The walls have better customer service than the actual employees, with polaroids hanging of smiling friends and customers.
I’ll keep going there though because maybe one day I’ll be part of the Gypsy «In Crowd».

Average donut nothing too special here. A little overpriced for an average donut. Small cozy spot. I did not try the coffee so the review is purely on the donuts.

West Nyack, NY
This café uses Stumptown coffee roasters. I tried their pour over (Ethiopian) option, which ended up tasting great. All espresso drinks are one size, showing that they really want consistency in taste. Great shop overall. The female barista that brewed my coffee definitely looked like she knew what she was doing using the Hario V60 for my pour over cup! If you are looking for high quality coffee in Nyack, I recommend this place.

Very cute place.
I don’t like around here and was going to Starbucks. Someone told me about this place and said they have good coffee. As a person who goes to Starbucks everyday, I decided to try something different.
This place is small, quite, cute, cozy, and it is a small business which we all should support. I love this kind of small local shops and wish there are more of them around.
The latte was good, I liked it. Most people came on are locals which give you a warm feeling. I would come back again next time when I am around here.

I’ve been coming here since July 2015. Best Cappuccinos around, hands down. Doughnuts are interesting and always change per week, so don’t always expect your favorite item to be on hand. For anyone who thinks their donuts may taste different from that atrocious joint called Dunkin, that’s because Gypsy puts an emphasis on natural ingredients. If that’s your cup of tea, you people know where to go. Seating inside is very minimal so beware. Which out for the Nyack Parking Princess aka meter maid, they write lots of tickets so don’t be like me, and use the meter. Gypsy also has a shop in the Piermont bike shop, could be closer for anyone in Jersey but just remember they operate by bike shop hours. Employees are very friendly, keep up the good work guys!

The biscuit sandwich is out of this world, and ever changing.

I don’t understand the negative reviews. This is a pretty cool place, and whether you think Brooklyn is «cool» or not (I don’t), this spot feels as if it could be seamlessly relocated to Williamsburg or another one of its hipster-​infested areas.
I’ve been here twice, with the visits being almost three years apart, and both experiences have been great. The staff is very friendly and helpful, and the coffee is really good, while the donuts and savory scones are exemplary. I’ve been to the world famous Voodoo Doughnut in Portland, and this is the closest it gets in terms of the Northeast, at least in my experiences.
Trust me, ignore the negativity and give this fun little spot a try. I’m confident most if not all of you will enjoy it.

We stopped in Gypsy Donut last night after dinner for a cup of coffee and a little something sweet. A great chocolate chip cookie, robust coffee and a latte later and our night was complete! The only shortcoming was the lack of seating, although we were lucky to snag the only outdoor bench.

We used to go the coffee shop at the entry of Piedmont (can’t remember the name right now) but we have started to go to this one instead recently, mostly to look at the bikes while we sip our coffees. But the espressos and cookies are a bit pricey so we might go back to our roots soon.
Also, nothing to do with the place but Piermont police has started to be very strict with riding in single-​file, so beware if you ride two abreast, even for a few seconds, you might get a ticket… I did.

Great coffee but I’ve had better doughnuts. They use Stumptown coffee and make great cappuccinos and cortados. The doughnuts have won awards but it’s not on the same level as Dough, Underwest, or Doughnut Plant. It’s a great place to hang out though as the staff are very cool and friendly.

I actually came to this Bar/​Café for a meetup a couple of weeks back. This place is really something else and really proves how small businesses are the backbone of this country. I never heard of a bar and café been together before so that was quite a surprise. I also never knew that a fresh doughnut wouldn’t go so bad with a fresh beer (Foodies can say what they want, good food goes with good food. HaHa). I had a variation of the Local Beer «Defiant» (Which I always recommend). The Banana nut doughnut was quite tasty. The place has quite the laid back attitude and even has board games for people to play and make new friends. The bartenders were really nice. After getting a little drunk and slopping into one of their comfy sofas, the dudes pretty much got rid of me in the nicest way by offering me water and asking about my well being which is quite appreciated.

I waned to give this place more than two stars, I really did but I just can’t.
I bought SIX donuts from them yesterday out of their selection of about 10 donuts and I can’t even say I liked ONE!
I am so disappointed because all I wanted was a good quality different donut. And the only places are in NYC and I was not about to drive into the city at 7pm. I found this place on Unilocal and saw pictures of their unique flavored donuts and was immediately attracted to it. To make it worse it took me 20 minutes to find parking in this god forsaken area and the donuts didn’t even make up for my wasted gas.
MAYBE their coffee is great and maybe their savory menu choices are better but for a place with the name donuts in the title you’d think their donuts would be the star and they just weren’t.
I got a variety of salted caramel, bourbon blueberry basil, chocolate cake, cinnamon sugar, cardamom, and maple bacon.
As much as I wish I didn’t have to say it but not one of the donuts were good, not one. The salted caramel was so salty and had no caramel flavor and the donut was a rock, the blueberry basil bourbon was soggy and wet and just all around not good, the chocolate cake was like putting a cup of peanut butter in your mouth and trying to talk, hard and like cardboard, the cinnamon sugar I had hope but nope, no flavor none, and the donut itself which usually has a nice cinnamon or fall like flavor just tasted like bread, the cardamom which looked like a powdered sugar donut tasted like baby powder on a flavorless donut, and the maple bacon was just gross I took one bite and spit it out.
I feel terrible sitting writing reviews like this, but honestly, I wasted 15 dollars and I don’t want other people making that same mistake when they can get better quality FRESHER tastier donuts at a cheaper place like dunkin because at least they know how to make their donuts.

My favorite morning routine during the week is a quick pop into Gypsy for an iced coffee on my drive to work. But my favorite weekend routine is «donuts and coffee» — walking eight blocks with my two little kids and littler dog to get me some coffee (and a cup to take back for my wife) and chocolate sprinkle donuts for the kids.
We sit on the couch and I drink my coffee while the kids eat their donuts and play with the toys and games that are set out (I think ironically, but my kids don’t care) and my dog sits outside locked leashed to a hook they set up with bowls of water (and the occasional piece of bacon brought out by one of the people there).
It’s a great place — a now-​legendary locally-​owned Nyack startup that provides great coffee in a relaxed environment. An oasis of urbanity in a desert of suburban lookalike coffee places It’s not a place where you can spread out with a laptop and work for two hours, so for that you need to go to Starbucks a few blocks away.
But for anything else, go local. Be a gypsy…

Like an oasis in the Sahara or a vision of Jesus in a corn tortilla somewhere in Mexico, Gypsy Donut miraculously appeared to me, (open at 7AM New Year’s Day!), to provide salvation. Being a grown-​ass man who is far too old to stay up all night without sleep, and having just done that, it was imperative that I inject carbohydrates and caffeine into my system. Gypsy was able to provide these in quantity and quality. I was so happy I even tried to offer a human response to the friendly «Happy New Year!» the guy at the counter greeted us with. We bought a box with one of every donut available (10 different flavors) and attacked them all methodically. My favorites were the orange-​filled, the salted caramel and the maple bacon (Tortilla Jesus this was good) — with the most concentrated levels of sugar, salt and fat. The only one I didn’t care for was some type of espresso cake donut, which tasted earthy and dry. Stick with the glazed, filled and frosted and you can’t go wrong.
Just as important, the coffee was top notch. I grabbed iced coffee as it was easily chuggable and thus the fastest caffeine delivery system available to me, but the offer macchiatos, straight espresso, cappuccinos, etc. The iced was rich and complex with those smooth, toasty, chocolatey notes which you’ll only find in a high quality roast and good brew. It really made me feel less like a jackass who shouldn’t try to hang like he could in college… and more like a human being again.
