This painting class was absolutely amazing! My mom and I were gifted this class for Christmas and were a little apprehensive about the difficulty level of the piece that we would be replicating. The teacher was amazing, she was so patient and walked us through every step of the painting and gave us extra time for the difficult parts. This class was at Alonzo’s at Mililani Golf Club, which is literally a minute away from home. The hostess was super helpful and attentive to our needs — our glasses were never empty! Needless to say, this was the first of many Wine and Canvas classes that we will attend. Great for private parties or for couples, or even alone! This class was so much fun!

I got a couple of tickets for this event held at Dave & Busters via Groupon. The room had a nice set-up and guests had enough room for painting supplies(just painting). We were handed our aprons to protect our clothes from paint. The hosts were both very nice and helpful. I have been to a couple of Paint nights and although it usually says«BYOB» they provide a couple of regular wine bottles and even chips for guests. I got a little confused when I received the confirmation email stating that no food/drinks allowed. I assumed they will provide wine at the event since the business is called«Wine & Canvas». We arrived at the event and I looked around for the drinks and there were none; the host mentioned the service that will be provided by DB staff – we were able to order our food and drinks before the event started. When the event started, we ended up eating, drinking and painting at the same time. In my opinion, there was not enough space for all the plates, drinks and paint materials which I certainly disliked. We also had plain canvases without the outlines ready to go. Usually, the outlines are already prepared for guests to make sure paintings are somewhat similar(other than the paint color of choice). I then assumed everything were already prepared for us but instead we were instructed to draw our outlines; using our brushes to determine the width, length, height, etc.(like a ruler). This caused our outlines to be different from one another. The lady who sat next to my mom was very upset because her Koi Fish looked like an eggplant which made her upset the whole time; while the lady next to her had to console her even though she was also unsatisfied with her work. Mine on the other hand looked retarded as well but I was just there to be get in touch with my non-existent creative side. All in all, only a few were able to follow the host’s instructions. I understand that the business had to make their name interesting and fun but it seems to be false advertisement. It shouldn’t be called«Wine & Canvas» if there is no wine allowed nor provided. Lastly, paint nights are supposed to be fun and hassle free. But with us having to draw our own outlines just made it overall confusing; having to use our brushes to determine the sizes was just unnecessary. Not to mention, we weren’t able to eat until our outlines are done because we had to follow instructions. In conclusion, for paint night events, check out PaintNite instead.

My brother-in-law wanted to try out this class because he wanted to paint Vincent van Gogh’s «Starry Night» that he saw on their website. We easily booked a reservation on their website using their Groupon. The class was held at the Pa‘ina Hale room on the second floor of Dave & Buster’s. After we checked in with the instructor or assistants, they gave us each a canvas and we picked our seats. Before the class started, the servers from D&B came around to take food and drink orders, but there wasn’t much room at the tables to put down plates or cups so some people put them down on empty chairs or on the railing. The class started with the instructor going over the supplies provided like the paint brushes, paint palette, and the container with water to rinse our brushes. The instructions given were pretty easy to follow along with the instructor modeling what to do. There was one point where I got caught up still working on painting my stars that that I fell behind on painting the black tower or tree that the instructor moved onto. Thankfully she stopped and came over to my canvas to help me catch up. There was a break in between where we had to let the paint dry and in the meantime we can use the bathroom or eat/drink. At the end we took a group picture and then the instructor and assistant also took individual pictures with our phones. Overall, I enjoyed my time painting and tapping into my creative side. Some people went a step further and painted in a house in their painting that wasn’t on the example. One thing that I would suggest to make this event better is if they have it at D&B again to make more space for people to walk to and from their seats because the tables were set up so close together and provide an extra table for customers to put their drinks, food, or bags on so it won’t be so cluttered on our tables and so we won’t knock stuff over or off the chairs.
