Meet the Business Owner

Tony M.

Business Owner

Tony has been in the food business all of his life. Valentine’s Day 2016 will mark his 50 year anniversary in the food business.

His love of food spawned from his family’s love of food. His mother and grandmother grew up working at Al’s Steakhouse, and Tony began his career working at the finest restaurant in the business, Andrino’s. When Rich and Charlie’s opened their first restaurant at 3213 Delmar in University City Tony was one of there first employee. Charlie Mugavero (Mungo) taught Tony how to wait on tables and cook Italian food at the age of 15. Tony adored Charlie as a big brother and mentor. Charlie and his wife Carol died in a plane accident in 1973. When Tony opened his first restaurant in 1983, called it Mungos which was Charlie’s nickname. Now almost 33 years later and 8 different locations, he is still keeping his teachings alive. Now Mungos is being imitated but never will be duplicated.
