I’m going to start by saying I have only had their ice cream so this review is purely for that. I love the ice cream here! They have so many options! Vanilla chocolate swirl dipped in peanut butter is divine! In fact you can dip your soft serve ice cream in pretty much anything. Their sundaes are fantastic. I love nice, creamy ice cream, but soft serve done right is very delicious. Based on what I have gotten so far I believe Premo’s is better than Dairy Queen. I will definitely come back anytime I am in need of sweet treat.

Great atmosphere, great food/ice cream, drinks and has been around for decades, I recommend. Clean and friendly staff, cheap to moderate prices.

Local favorite ice cream shop! Premos has been around for a long time. I love their dipped cones and shakes. Every now and again their ice cream tastes a bit sour, but majority of the time that is not an issue! Sour or not I keep going back.

This place USED to be decent and I liked their shakes. The service was always poor, though. Well today we went in because I had a taste for their shakes and Philly Steak… and boy do I REGRET it. The service was despicable. The cashier was walking around in shorts and had the ugliest attitude and expression. She was obviously miserable to be working there, and had no qualms about showing it. The food — Historically awful. The cherry shake I ordered tasted like bleach mixed with Robitussin cough syrup. I left it there and informed them that it tasted awful. We took our food home to eat… and it was dreadfully terrible. Poor quality ingredients, dry, un-flavorful. My daughter said her burger tasted equivalent to that of her high school food. I am completely disgusted with my overall experience, and will obviously never be going back to that AWFUL place!

When I moved to Mount Greenwood over a year ago my friend made me a list of places to go to, Premo’s made the list. I had been trying a bunch of different ice cream places around town to find what was my favorite. I love a good old fashioned soft serve ice cream joint! It was the perfect place to visit in the middle of the summer for a chocolate and vanilla twist dipped in chocolate. Also, if I would have just gone for the twist and not the dip, they would have put candy eyes on the ice cream which brings me back to my childhood. Hopefully sometime soon I’ll be back to try the food along with the ice cream.

Premo’s is on par with the Sugar Shack on 26th with the Sugar Shack getting the slight nod for a being a bit more tasty, having lower prices and offering coupons. Premo’s is in the ballpark, however. My wife and I wanted a funnel cake and didn’t want to drive halfway across town to get one. Thankfully we saw a sign at Premo’s that they were now selling Funnel Cake Sundaes so we stopped in and grabbed one! The funnel cake was a nice size but a bit heavier(bready) than the ones at Sugar Shack, which are lighter and airy. For a little over $ 8 you get one wet and one dry topping, ice cream, whipped cream, nuts and cherries. We like the fact that Premo’s is in our neighborhood, has a parking lot, has plenty of street parking and has places to sit down and eat inside and outside.
It was really nice to go out for ice cream and not having to worry about trying to find a parking space, police and traffic management officers circling like sharks trying to write parking tickets, paying meters or any of that nonsense. We’re glad we found this place!

Absolutely love it! Their service is always quick & with a smile & their dipped cones are to die for! The portions are great too and moderately priced. Definitely the place to go when you’re craving a good soft serve cone. There is a middle aged man whose always working there, he is so friendly and genuine. I LOVEPREMOS! :)

Love it. Great ice cream, good food and an Oak Lawn staple. Wish they had posted hours, though. They have been closed during normal business hours about 30% of the times I’ve gone there hoping to get a campfire shake. Love the food, service and nostalgia-how about some consistency?

They used to have great food. They must be under new management. They should really just stick to ice cream now. I gave it 3 stars, but only for the ice cream. If was it was only the food, it would be 1 or 2.

I remember coming to Premo’s as a child with my family and we would get so excited about getting«eyeball ice cream.» Now as an adult, my sister and I came in here for nostalgia purposes. We were immediately reminded of how wonderful Premo’s is and we were so excited to see that they still put eyes on their ice cream! Their custard is creamy and delicious with a wide variety of dipping options. They will literally cover your entire custard in sprinkles upon request. AWESOME! Great place to bring your friends, family, or even a date.

Whether it’s creative milkshakes or other tasty frozen treat, Premo’s is one of my favorite places in Oak Lawn. Plus, the food is great too! I had a Philly Cheese-Steak /Hamburger combo that really surprised me. And the frachos(fries /nachos) are a creative combo too. Plus, everyone there has always treated me and my family very well. If you’re looking for the old-time diner feel with quality food and a charming atmosphere, this is the place to be!

This place is great and I am a self-proclaimed ice cream snob. I love ice cream and always spoil myself once a week. Recently, my boyfriend and I were driving home from his parent’s house in Mokena. We were driving along and thinking about where to get ice cream and I remembered Premo’s. Not sure why I did, but I am glad I thought of it. Yes, it was out of our way but I really wanted to go somewhere locally owned that we haven’t been a million times in the last year or two. Dan ordered a shake with banana and peanut butter and I got a blizzard type thing with snickers and the twist soft serve. At first, Dan’s shake tasted strange but after a few sips, it was awesome. My tasted great and the service here is wonderful. The tip jar at the window(for ice cream only orders, I think) had the names of each employee and their future career or college major. What a neat little personal touch! Skip baskin robbins and come here! We didn’t have any food but would definitely come back for food sometimes.

I don’t really understand why there is a line out the door some days for this place, the icecream is good but nothing to stand in line squished in between sweaty overweight people for. However, it’s tasty. Can’t complain. I can see how it can become a family tradition for people who have lived in the area for a long time. Haven’t tried the food, just the icecream.

Premo’s is SO Oak Lawn. Everyone and their moms come here. I’m pretty sure Premo’s has been around forever. I remember when it was only open during the summer. Then all of a sudden, they turned into a year-round establishment and I would bet that it’s working pretty well for them. Premo’s is hoppin’ and happenin’ in the summer. Lines out the door and down the street. Parking is always hard to find and you’ll have to park down the block and walk it. But it’s good exercise before you indulge on some sweet soft serve. They have chocolate, vanilla, and choco-nilla swirl. I love that they put little sugar eyes on it. Who doesn’t want their ice cream watching them as you lick it to death? They do have food, though I’ve never had any. It does smell awesome and maybe sometime I’ll get me some. But for now, the ice cream is enough for me to be happy.

Great treat last night. Dropped in for a bite to eat, and of course to grab a sweet treat. I ordered Premo’s pork tenderloin sandwich, a side of greek potatoes and a banana shake to wash it down. I was weak. I gave in and drank my shake first(sorry mom I know you taught me to eat my food first then dessert, but I just couldn’t stop once i started sipping) Big mistake, for two reasons. First, what could have been a great sandwich, turned into an below average sandwich, in my opinion. The pork tenderloin was lightly breaded and still a bit crispy. The pork was actually pretty good, but the bun was you plain run of the mill hamburger bun. Unfortunately, the bun didnt hold up long and the mayo and tomato turned into a soggy mess. I ate about a quarter of the sandwich and ditched the bread and finished the pork all by itself. I guess the sandwich was designed to be eaten right away. Ooops! The second reason I should have waited… Any sandwich offered cannot stand up to a shake, or ice cream treat from Premo’s. They are just too good! You are bound to be disappointed. Next time I come here for lunch or dinner, I will be sure to hold off on ordering dessert until I am finished with my food. Lessoned learned(thanks mom).

This review isnt for the ice cream as I havent tried it. After waiting in a line I find out they dont take debit cards. Huh? When this joint decides to join the 21st Century I may try em out, til then Andys Custard recently opened and not only are they in the present unlike Premos, their custard matches Culvers!

So we’re down on the southwest side, having another 4 p.m. dinner with my husband’s grandparents and parents. And ice cream came up. My husband decides that he is in need of some soft serve, and down the street to Premo’s he goes. With him, the nostalgia factor is through the roof, but I’d never been there before. And I’m pleased to say I enjoyed it as much as he did. The place is small, with a few counter seats if you simply must eat indoors and some benches and a picnic table outside. And it’s cash only. While they’re clearly known for their ice cream creations, you can also get burgers, fries, pizza puffs, dogs, tamales, the usual assortment of fried foods. But we were there for some ice cream. So I selected a Twix«concrete» or whatever it was called(you know, the Blizzard variation) and the husband got this huge waffle cone with sprinkles and nuts and whatnot. The ice cream was creamy and delicious, with plenty of chunks of Twix throughout, and a small was plenty — I sorta wished for a mini version, but gee, somehow I managed to finish it. We enjoyed the lovely evening air while looking at the penguins and savoring our inexpensive and delightful ice cream treats.
