Henry C. Fung, DDS

Dr. Fung is a great oral surgeon. I was put under and had all four of my wisdom teeth removed. Scheduling was very easy and his staff kept me informed every step of the way. I always recommend getting a pretreatment through instance prior to committing to work but the front desk was great giving me rough estimates of what I could expect to pay. My post surgery appointment was a breeze and Dr. Fung was very attentive. I was so pleased with the service I received I had to drop off a thank you cake for them taking such good care of me. My good friend and brother also had their wisdom teeth removed here and we all agree Fungs the best oral surgeon in town.

I am updating my review of this experience as a good gesture for my Dentist.
I would like to clarify that my Dentist, and the staff who work with this person, are in NO WAY responsible for what had transpired as a result of the referral I was given to Dr. Fung’s office. My Dentist and staff were all working in GOOD FAITH for MY BENEFIT, which is something that the staff of the referred-​to doctor could learn as a good lesson. It has become more evident to me that they also rely on the advice of the staff who work for Dr. Fung when making a referral – emergency or otherwise, in regard to feasibility for sudden referrals in order to make a good decision for everyone involved. However, it is unfortunate that it all had turned out the way that it had that particular day.
While I do understand how busy Dr. Fung’s office can get with ALL of the good people he seems to serve on a daily basis, his staff could use a lesson in using better common sense when trying to fit-​in an unscheduled addition to the good doctor’s already heavy work load. Can you say «RESCHEDULE»??? I really cannot blame the doctor exclusively when in fact he is not always in a position to make the kinds of decisions about last minute scheduling of patients – especially when they are new OR suddenly referred. He must rely on his staff to «work things out» to some degree. That’s why professionals hire people to staff the office/​practice and arrange workloads, so they don’t have to do it themselves.
Since I was informed that Dr. Fung is an extraordinary Oral Surgeon, one who has a good practice and reputation, I would be willing to give him a second chance. All that I would ask is that he review how sudden referrals are handled, and have his staff exercise a bit more common sense with scheduling issues, so that he might not lose a good patient and customer in the future… and end up getting reviews like the original one I posted here previously.
My apologies to my very good Dentist (and the staff) for any problems that may have resulted from my review. I will not name names… to protect the innocent. My review will be posted at a later date on their own web site, and not on Unilocal – for obvious reasons.

One of the best dental experiences in my life.
One of my wisdom teeth had chips, and had already gotten fillings. It was too far gone to repair again, so out it had to go. it’s partner above became collateral damage, as if I didn’t have it out, it would slide down and cause issues. So two teeth need to come out. My dentist gave me this as an option, so I gave it a try.
First Dr Fung told me about his experience as an oral surgeon and how the procedure would work. He asked a lot of questions and answered all of mine. He is very easy to talk to, calm and reassuring and clearly was very capable.
I went with novocaine and not gas. I sometimes have trouble with feeling the pain through the anesthetic, but Dr. Fung paid very close attention and made sure I was numb for the whole procedure. A very rare experience for me. It’s a weird feeling to have the teeth yanked out, sometimes in pieces, but I felt safe throughout the procedure. When it was all over, Dr. Fung made sure everything was OK and told me how to take care of everything. I had a follow-​up a week later and he double-​checked everything and trimmed the stitches.
I heartily recommend Dr. Fung.

I went there on 2 separate occasions concerning my wisdom teeth. His staff is really prompt and if you’re wanting an insurance check on cost or coverage they will do it for you and call you back within the next 2 business days.
There’s ample meter parking along the streets so it’s easy to find a spot. There’s also a few little cafes and shops along the street so a friend or family member can do a little browsing while you’re in surgery.
Dr. Fung was a really friendly guy and his staff are all very efficient at getting patients in and out in a comfortable manner. He seems like a very experienced surgeon and even teaches at Cook County (found out when we chit chatted). I was anxious to do local anesthesia for two teeth but both were out before I realized he was done. It took about 15 – 20 min total. My total wait, anesthetic, and surgery time took just under an hour from the start of my appointment time.
They also gave me a prescription for an oral rinse, ibuprofen, and an antibiotic, as well as a flexible ice pack. It seemed pretty procedural so it was a nice touch of comfort and convenience.
My only reservations would be as Robin H. mentioned, Dr. Fung might have his «off» days — on my first visit he and his staff forgot to tell me not to drink through a straw — thankfully it still healed well. But for the most part he is very cordial and practices good bedside manners.

I was surprised to read a one-​star review of Dr. Fung. I had a great experience here, too (for getting wisdom teeth pulled I should probably re-​phrase). Dr. Fung is a really nice guy, his office staff are great, they got me right in and out. I had 3 teeth pulled, took about 45 minutes total. I’d highly recommend him– it wasn’t even that traumatic despite only getting the local anesthetic.

Dr Fung was very prompt in calling me back when I had dry socket in a tooth that was recently pulled. Unfortunately, I called on a Wednesday, which is the day he is at the hospital. So, he yelled at me for having a tooth issue on a day he wasn’t in the office. Seriously, people, yelled. I explained that when I called the day before, his staff wanted me to come to his office by 3pm (it was 2:45pm). He accused me of lying.
I’m not sure what to think. When I went back later that week, he was very cordial and apologetic. Apparently, «he just really doesn’t like it when his schedule changes».
A surgeon, doesn’t like when his schedule changes? What the What?!
It was pretty weird.

I had a tooth that was painful. I called on a Saturday and left a message. Dr. Fung called me back and scheduled me Monday morning. He extracted the tooth and I immediately felt much better. He was extremely professional and so was his staff. I give him the highest recommendation.

I was referred to Dr. Fung from my general dentist, Dr. Feng to get my wisdom teeth pulled out. I had two impacted teeth, and two non-​impacted. Dr. Fung gave me anesthesia around the 4 teeth, and was able to take them out without any trouble within 30 minutes. He then prescribed some pain killers, and I actually was able to eat the same date. The process was not bad at all for me — despite some horror stories I’ve heard from my friends where they couldn’t stand up, eat for days, and had to go under, etc.
I definitely recommend Dr. Fung if you need your wisdom teeth pulled out!
