Pine Acres Family Camping Resort

The whole time i was registering they kept mentioning that if i didnt like something i didnt have to stay there, ex: The showers are quarters, if you dont like it you dont have to stay here. Also the refund policy is that its just store credit within 30 days, i said that i dont think that is fair but i agreed to it, i went through the rest of the process and secured my reservations and payment. A few hours later i got an email saying that they didnt think i agreed to all the terms and without a question or phone call they cancelled everything and refunded my money. I cant turn enough people away from here. The owner Randy needs to extract his head from his rear end and focus on serving customers. I will forever talk about my experience to everyone that will listen. Youtube video link to follow…

I will preface this review with the fact that we have seen a fair share of campgrounds in our camping adventures, we are a family of four, and tent camp all the way.
Making the reservation late in August for Labor Day weekend was easy. The staff on the phone were quite friendly and very pleasant. Even received an email a few days before to send in our license plate info for Express Check In.
We arrived on Friday evening around 5:30p.m. and check in was speedy. The map we were given was a tad difficult to follow, as we found throughout the weekend. I guess it isn’t so much the map, but the campground itself is laid out in a very confusing manner.
We made our way up to the Wilderness Tent Only site and was excited to see how spacious the site was and we were not right on top of our neighbors. Loved being in the woods. The site had not been cleaned and picked up from the prior campers, but we took care of that in a jiffy. The sites were VERY rocky and that made it virtually impossible to stake in any tent or canopy. Glad there was no wind or rain! A small detail but the picnic tables seemed to be smaller than usual size. Very low to the ground and akward for adults to get in and out of. Being at the wilderness sites, we had to drive up a steep and what appears to be never ending rocky dirty road. This itself was prohibitive to bike riding. One, you could sustain major injury going down if you hit a rock the wrong way and impossible for little legs (or big ones) to ride back up. We ended up walking or driving down and parking in the visitor parking.
We had a water/​electric site, however the electrical box was so far from the actual site usage area, you needed at least a 50 foot extension cord to reach the outer perimeter of the site.
The bathrooms… loved that they were all single use. Toilet, sink and shower in one private room. Fantastic. Relatively clean depending on the day you went. With it being so dusty and dirty on the ground (thank you no rain for days on end), the floors got a tad messy with wet dirt. They could have stood to have multiple cleanings per day and wipe down of the doors every once in a while would go along way. With only one hook, it made it difficult to put anything down in there without it getting filthy. Add a few extra hooks and maybe a stool/​mini bench and the bathrooms would have been camping perfection.
The cost of this place is ridiculous. You pay for a «resort» camping area in your lodging and that is expected. However, the prices for rentals and activities is crazy. You can go broke here in a day! And why, as a «family campground» do they only include two people in the cost? Not worth it!
Employees were fairly rude, or at least unfriendly, through most encounters. The guy at the checkin gate was pretty smiley and the older lady in the store was great. The rest? Meh at best.
The trash! Seriously!!! They have a campground with over 300 sites and there is ONE trash area and for the tenters is a HAUL. At the very least, with a facility that totes «resort» add another trash area or have one of the 2000 golf cart drive bys pick up the trash for you. Time to get in the car and drive the trash down that crazy road! And if you don’t? Expect woodland visitors, like skunks.
The campground is very pet friendly with its own dog park and dog beach. Lots of fur babies around and when we were there, they were well behaved and quiet.
With a resort this size, the pool, although lovely, needs to be bigger or offer more than one. Too many people cramped into a fairly small area. Additionally, the lodge where evening entertainment is, needs to be significantly larger for the size of the campground. Or find another place to hold these nightly activities.
Overall feeling, love the wooded sites, but I won’t go back. If I want a resort feel again, I will head to Normandy in Foxboro, MA. Well worth the money, you won’t be nickel and dimed and most importantly, you get what you pay for. Happy Camping!

I don’t understand a single one of these negative reviews. I searched FOREVER before finally deciding to go with Pine Acres as our family vacation this year. I knew I wanted a cabin, since my kids are 1 and 3, and there’s no way I’m dealing with those ages in a tent. We went big and got the Premium Cabin. It was awesome. Spacious, clean, quiet. The upstairs in definitely only for kids, as its very low ceilings. Both my little ones loved having a sleeping bag and air mattress up there. The «stairs» to get up and down from the loft are much more ladder-​ish than I expected which can make a mom nervous, but they climbed up and down them with no problems at all.
Many complained about pricing. This is what I don’t get. Yes you pay to rent Kayaks (10 bucks an hour), yes you pay to mini golf ($ 3 per person). But where else can you stay where that is included at all? Plus if you rent elsewhere and go off site to do those activities, then you will pay a heck of a lot more than that. So honestly, I don’t think any of the added expenses are bad at all.
FREE Activity wise, this place is spot on for kids. A great pool that’s only 4ft deep at the deepest part, a splash pad, playground, fishing docks, swimming at the lake, jump pads, even just going down to the general store to look around or sit out by the fire near the main office is fun! Every day there are lists of activities they will be doing throughout the day. We stayed during pirate and princess week so our kids got to go down and make swords, color them and glue fun stuff on them. They loved it. They do other things like sand art too. Theres a free movie night once a week, where all the campers can gather outside on log benches (or bring your own blankets/​chair/​popcorn) and they wheel out a big blow up screen for a movie. Surprise, they were playing Frozen.
There are rules here and that is why i actually love this place. Yes, fires go out at midnight. Which is great because I don’t need Joe and his buddies drinking and being obnoxious all night while my kiddos are trying to get some rest at this FAMILY campground. You cant bring in firewood and you have to buy there’s, but we never had an issue with how it burned. And I understand why they do it. Those beetles are nasty and can ruin whole forests. Sometimes you just have to do your part.
I really loved the fresh coffee at the general store in the morning, as well as being able to head down and get a bite to eat if I was just being lazy for lunch and didn’t want to cook. Icecream was yummy too! If you rent a cabin, they deliver the paper to your door each morning, and i love little things like that.
Other random things:
There is always someone around to answer your questions. I didn’t come across one person who had an attitude with me whatsoever. We first arrived and had an issue with our toilet continuously flushing and there was someone there in under 5 minutes with the tools to completely fix it.
The fishing spots are beautiful.
The lake is extremely clean.
Bathrooms and Showers were also extremely clean.
If your kids like to ride bikes, bring them! Everyone has bikes!
Everything is within walking distance. You can go to the pool, then the lake and then the playground all without dying from walking for days. But they are spaced out enough so its not one massive crowd of people in one area. We had a wagon with us and it was perfect!
I do not have one single complaint about the staff or the facilities and I’m the know «complainer» in my family.
I think this place is a gem. And we’ve already booked a long weekend down the road, as well as a week long vacation in 2016!

Disclaimer: This post is being written by someone who can only take nature in small doses.
That said, we stayed in a cabin, and figure there are really no reviews of cabin living for this resort, I would report. We had 19 people and 4 cabins near each other, so that was really cool. Most of the complaints on here are about pricing, but they let us know all about prices before we booked, so I knew that going in, so no complaints there. I also read all the rules on the website, so not going to complain about those either. Guessing they were added after the people here complained or something.
Cabins, were clean, well kept, but small. Expect very small. Like side shuffle into bed small. But that’s ok. They were clean, got a paper every day dropped off, and a woman came by to water the flowers. I actually saw a hummingbird while drinking coffee on the deck one morning. Very cute.
I also liked all the kids running and riding around being kids, and how other campers drove very slow letting those kids be kids. They also have a really short but nice trail to run.
Staff was always nice and fast. Once we went with 11 of us to get ice cream at the store and they got us settled fairly quickly. They have added some fresh fruits/​veggies for the people who said there was no food, but it’s definitely not a market, it’s a tiny store, with very minimal food. Mini golf is sorta falling apart, don’t charge for that. Pool is small, and was packed every day, which is was hot, so expected. Add more shade though. No place to sit if you are not a sun bather. I think 2 umbrellas for like 100+ people. I totally stole shade. I was a shade stealer. Activities were nice to have, but kids were having to much fun at the lake to take part, so I can’t comment on whether they were actually happen or fun.
I do want to mention, I fell and fell hard. So if you are staying in a cabin and it rains be very careful on the stairs, they get like slimy when wet. So, left with a set of bruised ribs.
Also want to mention we left with bugs… and lot of bites… which is a bummer. Could happen anywhere, but needed to be mentioned.

As others have stated, it’s a place that tries to fleece you with inflated prices, imposes ridiculous restrictions and just has a feel to it that is not pleasant. We had heard that the owners were kind of crappy about stuff but decided to stop here. We won’t be back. It’s the worst we’ve experienced. There are much cleaner, better run camp grounds — do your research.

Bad experience. To many rules. All activities are at a cost. No food or drinks in the pool area. No after dinner swim for the kids bc the pool closes for children at 7pm. Closes for adults at 8 including hot tube. Very rude security. Not going back.

There are a few things you need to know before you stay here. Yeah the bathrooms are clean and they have lots of activities. But my advice to you would be to camp elsewhere and here’s why.
First off expect to spend an extended amount of time trying to check in. I was the fifth car in line and ended up spending 30+ minutes just checking in. Oh and if your checking in after dark expect to get lost trying to find your camp site. Yeah they give you a map but its best suited for starting you campfire. Somebody thought it was a great idea not to put signs up directing you. So good luck turning that RV around in the dark!
Second expect to be plagued with rules! I drove across three states to see my family and after I got settled here I found out they were turned away. Im sorry I paid $ 68.00 a night for two nights I should be allowed any visitor I want! My elderly parents had to call me and tell me they were turned away, despite the staff demanding every type of contact information short of a DNA sample upon checkin.
Third expect to be picked dry with hidden fees! You are not allowed to bring in any firewood and if you want a campfire you are FORCED to buy their over priced wood. I paid $ 24.00 for 4 SMALL bundles of wood that was WET and UNUSABLE! I even brought a plumbers blowtorch with me and still failed to light a fire. Im not sure but I think they store the wood in the lake.
Also expect a visit from the security at 12:01am if you somehow are able to get fire lit. I was sitting by my fire quietly enjoying my night until I was approached by a very rude security person threatening that if I didn’t put my fire out in 15 minutes that he would be back to do so. When I was putting it out I noticed I was being stalked by their security. Despite the fire being they still showed up and poured water on it! I don’t need this type of harassment from anyone. And I really don’t see the need for such a threatening attitude from their staff. This is especially really sad considering I paid so much to stay here. I chose to camp here but you don’t have to.

Clean. That’s the best thing you can say about a place you plan on staying when you’re tent camping. The last thing you want, is to show up and feel gross before you’ve tented. The staff are extremely friendly and there is ample staff present to keep the facilities clean.
There are a lot of camping options. We chose to camp in an electric/​water site, but there are a ton of sites available that are wilderness tenting tucked way up on the hillside where you can easily forget that you’re just a few minutes from the hustle and bustle of Worcester.
There were plenty of seasonal campers and it wasn’t a quiet stay on Saturday night at all. Which is fine, it’s a resort. They have activities lined up for kids and other stuff. Our daughter enjoyed the Ice Cream Breakfast on Sunday morning.
They just added a Jump-​House, it’s a ~50×50 inflatable air pad where the kids can jump and bounce. My 2 year old loved it. They playscape is new and well kept and there is a cute little play house that my daughter decided was a «breakfast nook» where she would take our order in the window.
We were lucky enough to be there on a really off weather weekend, it was a warm enough for a beach day! The beach was clean and the swim area in Dean Lake was clean too.
This is definitely a family friendly resort, there were kids roaming around all day, on bikes, skateboards, walking, running, in general being kids. It was nice. It is also a very dog friendly resort. It seemed everyone had a dog, as did we. They have a little dog park set off away from the sites to let the dog off leash for a bit. There is also a dog wash for the post hiking adventures. We took the pup to the «dog beach», it was awesome. She loved romping in the water. It’s nice to let your dog be a dog every now and then after being couped-​up by city life.
The restrooms and showers were very clean, and I witnessed each shower stall being cleaned each day we were there. This is nice, clean showers after waking up in a tent are joyous.
The only con we had, was that we stayed Sat-​Mon. It seemed the «resort» shut down on Sunday afternoon and nothing was open. And the same on Monday morning, it was a ghost town. We didn’t get to see the family arcade and the mining was open only a very short time. Probably the result of staying in September instead of July/​Aug.
The other important detail is firewood. There is a slew of laws that govern the masses about taking firewood across state lines as it is, but they go one step further and don’t permit any firewood to brought into the park. They charge $ 6 a bundle for their 6 – 8 piece bundles. If you like to have a roaring fire the entire time you stay, you’ll be paying a pretty penny for it. We had 3 bundles which was plenty for a two night stay.
My family already looks forward to an extended stay next Summer.

This place will nickel dime you for everything. $ 5/​day for wifi, $ 20/​hr for paddle boats, $ 6/​bundle (6 pcs of wood) is ridiculous when your paying $ 75+ per night to stay there. The staff came by at 12:30am and doused our fire with a 5 gallon bucket even though we were not being loud and there were no complaints from neighbors. I will say that the grounds were very nice but I will not be returning do to the staff and all of there ridiculous rules.

Just got back from a three night stay. Overall it was nice. Nothing wowed me but nothing disgusted me either.
* I called the day before for a reservation and was told due to my time request there is only one small tent site with power available. I was happy to accept. Well by the time I rolled out ¾ of the sites around me were still empty. Seems they got me there.
* I had to pay extra for my daughter, Apparently they think a family is only 2 adults.
*The store is a joke for what they stock. Candy, Souvenirs and toys take up ¾ of it. There is no food to cook or even things to make sandwiches sold there and with the nearest grocery store 6 miles away, you’d think they’d at least stock some hot dogs and frozen burgers, after all it is «camping food». They clearly want you to buy from their B rate grille instead. (bring ur food or allow time to go Hannaford’s which is open til 9 pm or PriceChoppers which is open til Midnight, both very good grocery stores)
*No trash receptacles anywhere inside the grounds, you have to literally haul it out the gate to the dumpsters and then return into the grounds. Not very convenient for those of us who don’t like trash bags laying around overnight to feed the wild animals.
* The rental paddle boats/​kayaks are beat.
*Most of the staff seemed to be teenagers, some clueless. I was given a life vest for kayaking for max 90 lbs, He missed the mark by 100 lbs or maybe my outfit was slimming lol
*Be prepared to pay $ 6.00 a bundle of wood (averages about 6 to 7 pieces) I dropped like $ 70 for the privilege to have a fire at my camp
*Don’t bother bringing a bike, it’s either too hilly if you stay in the «wilderness area» or you have to dismount and walk it on every hill per rules dictate.
The pluses are
* Spotless bathrooms, I actually laughed at how often they come by to clean them (I should know my site was directly across one) Each comes with private free hot showers.
*All the staff were very friendly and polite
*Very kid orientated
*They didn’t charge us for «Ka-​Bar» our Kamping Kitty
Bottom line. I wouldn’t make this my «go to» place and will look for something better, but it wasn’t a regretful choice either.

Way over priced. Expect a weekend at Pine Acres to cost you $ 200+ not including food or drink when all is said and done. They are 50% more expensive than the next most expensive campground I’ve ever been too! The rules are so strict you are asked what site you are at every time you go to the bathroom! A go-​cart drives by every 20 – 30 minutes and the staff reminds you of the rules, even when you aren’t breaking any! I’ve been camping dozens of times and this was by far the worst experience I’ve ever had.

4 stars until the Pool opens up earlier and stays open later. & also the Country Store stops Gouging you for Fire wood. They don’t want you bringing in your own fire wood and you have to buy theirs. But It’s basically a $ 1 per log.
This place is Soo Soo Clean! The Showers, the restrooms, the grounds, the tent site, the beach, the Hot tub, the pool! Everything was very clean.
It is a little pricy but that comes into play when your camping at a resort.
The food in the Campstore was also a little Pricey for what was delivered. If I’m paying $ 8 for a cheeseburger, it should be somewhat good. Our 3 cheeseburgers and two chicken strip meals were $ 40.
The cheesburgers were cooked Very Well done. The chicken strips were good.
One size coffee cup in the Campstore is a little bit of a drag. Along with them opening at 8:30am
Getting over the small nuances of what camping is at a resort, knowing you are going to pay $$ for whatever you did not bring with you. Once your over that fact. The rest of the experience is very nice.
I can see myself staying here for a whole week. If you can bring your own wood to burn that is not firewood, would be a good option. It maybe cheaper just buying 2×4 studs and cutting them up to burn. If you can get Oak wood flooring cheaply, that would be a better option.
Fishing here was great for the kids. They each must have caught about 5 fish in a very short time. They were all sunnies and we threw them back, but the kids had a great time.
What I enjoyed about this place was how everything was a short walk away. I have been to many campgrounds where everything was so far away!
If the Pool had bathrooms attached to the area that would make it alot better also. I didn’t see one kid get out of the pool and go down to the bathroom, you know what that means. peepee pool. But at least the pool was warm =)
Overall, this is a great family resort. Tons and Tons of activities going on all the time. Your children will not be disapointed here!

Great campground. But they store has nothing. If you want anything you have to go to walmart witch is 20 minutes alway. Great campground but bring everything you think you would need before and even if you think you will not need it, BRING IT and the fried dough is bad and if you buy firewood from mass you can’t bring it in to the campground

The resort is lovely. Very Very clean. The staff was washing down the walls in the bathrooms clean. The pool was clean but FRIGID! The Grounds were clean as well. The staff was very helpful and friendly. They have a small little store/​café on site. The food at the café was EXCELLENT! The only issue are many of the other campers that were attracted to the location. If you are looking for a nice, small, quiet campground, this is not it! Many of the fellow campers had several people on their site. Kids were EVERYWHERE! A lot of drunkin’ partying going on. I am not sure why but the police were by a couple of times.
The campground gets 5 stars but some of the wild campers take it down one star!

Pretty good for private campground. We were here on opening weekend and a few glitches but overall a nice experience. Camp staff were readily available and extremely helpful. very family oriented. rules are followed to the T. already have our next reservation booked. can’t wait to go camping!!!

Arriving this Friday 8÷10÷2012 reservation manager has a mind of her own and changes things as she pleases. At first everyone is nice on the phone, we’ll see how the weekend goes. Review and Rating to be finished on Sunday.

We just got back from our company camping trip at Pine Acres and everyone had a great time. The staff is very helpful, friendly and accommodating. We had a group of 13 people and a dog (they don’t have breed restrictions like some other places do, which was important to us as we have a pit) and we camped on three of their remote camp sites. They also have cabins and rv sites. The amenities were numerous and great! There’s mini golf, a pool, horseshoes, a wiffleball field and many other activities. There’s also a beach (including a one specifically for pets) and there are showers and bathrooms, which are clean and well stocked. And, as if all of that wasn’t enough, it was cheap. It cost $ 3 for the dog, $ 7 a head and $ 35 for the campsites. We loved it and will definitely return.
