Sierra Sky Ranch, an Ascend Hotel Collection Member

Small, newly remodeled and clean hotel in Oakhurst. Love the looks of the rustic restaurant. One major draw back, especially if you’re coming here for a family vacation is the pool is not usable! We still would have stayed here, but it would have been nice to know in advance.

Wanted to dine here at the Branding Iron Steakhouse, using a gift certificate won in a raffle at a fundraiser. The establishment has changed hands since closing for «renovations» two years back, and the new owner will not honor this gift certificate. Never got the chance to sample the dining experience here, and this is a bad way of doing business.

Such a wonderful gem! My fiancé and I could not have asked for more. From the tasteful remodel, to the amazing food at their Branding Iron restaurant, to the world class service, we were delighted! I could not recommend more! Go here now before the secret gets out.

Had dinner with several friends who all enjoyed sumptuous rib steak. Clams from, California which were amazing. Good drinks, great service &!all able to have dinner conversation without screaming. The view of the meadow was really sweet as the sun touched down on Yosemite… best meal of the year!!! Kudos to chef & staff!!!

We are IN LOVE with this place !! It’s an old ranch home turned into a hotel/​B&B type of place. The décor as soon as you walk in is SO adorable! Rustic/​country/​mountainy, I wanted to move in! Everything is SO clean and updated, you don’t feel like it’s old or run down at all! Our king bed was to die for and our room opened up to the front patio overlooking the ranch. We loved going to the restaurant for some wine and dessert (didn’t eat there but it all smelt amazing). The staff was so friendly and they had coffee and muffins every morning for us ! We are so in love with this place, we want to come back each spring and stay here! We will only stay here when going to Yosemite from now on! Absolute 5 star!

This place was awesome! They serve muffins and fruit until 10 and they have updated the place drastically. I was very nervous staying here based off some of the photos but it is very different so don’t hesitate to book your stay. The only thing I would change is to make sure the carpets are clean. I looked under the bed to make sure I didn’t leave anything behind and there was trash and dirt under there. But other than that everyone was friendly and the place is in prime location with clean and updated appliances.

My husband and I stayed here due to a friends wedding, our room was clean nicely rustic décor and very comfortable. I loved the porch and the grounds, it was very quiet and relaxing. The staff were friendly and helpful. I just wish I had been able to stay longer. We fully intend to come again.

If you are looking for pretentious rustic then keep looking. This place is casual, lounging is informal, rooms are like staying at a friend’s spare room, comfortable. Ghost hunters come for a chance to capture Sarah or the two kids or the ranch hand, but really it’s history from 19^th century is reason enough to stay. Staff is friendly and welcoming. If you plan to stay here before it becomes a generic pretentious rustic hotel come quick, new owners are going to make this an upscale restaurant /​hotel which also means this afford place with be no more.

My wife and I stayed on Christmas night here on the Ranch. We read all the other reviews and even though everyone can have there own opinion I believe that. Many were wrong.
The Ranch is old, 1875 to be exact. It does need a little work and it is currently being done, but it is a beautiful rustic experience. It is priced well in the off season.
It is a Historic place filled with stories; whether true or legend are always fun to hear and possibly «experience».
This is not the Hilton, and shouldn’t be compared to such hotels.
It is Roughing it in a warm, clean and comfortable room where you can still enjoy the forest.
Once the restaurant reopens then it will be a complete property, however, there are restaurants 3 mins from the Ranch.
I look forward to staying here again in the future.

Das Hotel hatte auf der Internetseite auf der wir unsere Hotels für den Roadtrip gebucht haben gute Bewertungen und der Preis war ok. Außerdem dachten wir, das zwischen 4 Motels auch ein Hotel mal wieder ganz nett wäre (Da es mein erster USA Trip war wusste ich nicht wie hochwertig die Motels im Vergleich sind). Als wir auf das Gelände fuhren und zur Rezeption gingen, war ich einfach nur begeistert. Das Hotel liegt direkt am Wald (am zweiten Abend standen zwei Rehe auf der Wiese direkt vor dem Hotel), sehr idyllisch und auch das Haus strömt eine angenehme Atmosphäre aus. Der für amerikanische Verhältnisse etwas unfreundliche junge Mann an der Rezeption haben wir noch mit schlechter Tagesform abgetan. Das das Steakhouse derzeit geschlossen war, fanden wir schade sollte uns aber nicht stören, da wir uns dann im Ort umgesehen haben. Aber als uns im Zimmer unsere «Breakfast Items» gezeigt wurden, sind wir dann doch vom Glauben abgefallen. 2 kl. Flaschen O-​Saft, 2 kl. Tüten Fruchtgummi, 2 kleine Blueberry Kuchen und 2, Oatmeal Kekse. Alles einzeln verpackt. Ich habe mich in den USA schon am ersten Tag daran gewöhnt, das es in den Hotels kein riesiges Frühstück inkl. gibt, aber das war schon hart für eine Hotel in dem man inkl. Frühstück gebucht hat. Das Zimmer wies außerdem einige Mängel auf was sich von zwei nicht zu gespachtelten Löchern in der Wand bis zu einer nur schwer abschließbaren Terrassentür zog. Der kleine Ausflug zum Pool war auch ernüchternd, da viele Blätter der umstehenden Bäume im Wasser schwammen.
Das Fazit ist, das wir es sehr schade fanden, dass ein so schönes Haus so vernachlässigt wird. Wenn hier ein wenig mehr auf Sauberkeit und Ordnung geachet würde, wäre es immer wieder eine Reise wert und ich würde sogar einen etwas höheren Preis bezahlen. So war ich froh nach 2 Nächten wieder in einem Motel auf unserer Liste zu finden.

Wow, this place needs some serious TLC. Upon arrival we were informed the restaurant was closed for remodeling. This is something you should inform guests with advanced reservations of beforehand, not at check-​in. Roomed in the «bunk house.» I could feel the dirt/​dust on the comforter. Carpets were dirty especially around the edges of the room. The bathroom was in poor condition with noticeable mildew in the shower tiles and its ceiling. Oh, and in the morning we found we’d been invaded by ants. Their idea of breakfast is a piece of fruit, oj, and a granola bar left in the room. Maybe these folks are hoping if things get bad enough, they can get Hotel Impossible to come pimp them up for free. Definitely NOT a $ 160 room!

Bed bugs! Bed bugs!!! we were in room 23A 10 days ago. I hope they fix the problem. Their staff are nice and friendly.

Our room was overpriced for what we got: atrocious security: windows and doors that did not lock, bug and mouse traps under the bed, chipped, worn and dripping paint stains, dark and dingy atmosphere, cramped and the weakest coffe in town, dry, tasteless continental breakfast, with a staff that didn’t care about the discomfort that was afforded their guests. Felt like they kinda gave up on the place, inside and out !

stayed here with a friend a few months ago. spent the days in the park and the nights grabbing a quick bite to eat and a beverage. the kitchen glady hooked me up with my veggie based dinners. the mason jars of whiskey were nice too. i enjoyed all the old history and the cats. i would come back here again and am surprised so many folks had so many negative things to say. its a little ranch house outside the park– nothing fancy but if you are looking for that then stay at a 5 star chain.

Our room had a non-​working fridge with a working fridge stacked on top of it. Inside that fridge was some rotting food that instantly stunk up the room with the smell of death.
Since there was no Lysol to be found we were put in a damp basement room with the most disgusting shower ever. Also happened to be crawling with daddy long legs.
Nothing ranch like about this place. Tacky fountains. Dilapidated gazebos.

I know this place has a long family owned history and I really wanted to like it. This was the first time I have been to a restaurant and had food so bad I sent it back. Both my wife and I had the prime rib and baked potatoes. We both took one bite and sent it back. The potatoes were so overcooked and rubbery that they could not be saved. The prime rib was so tough, it was very difficult to get through one bite. It also had a strange taste like liquid smoke or something.
The owner (who was very nice) replaced the meals with rib eye steaks which were very difficult to get down as well. He was making supplier excuses as was the chef who came to our table to apologize. Our server, while nice, could really use some training in representing the business. A couple sat down next to us and inquired about the prime rib. I overheard our server tell them that the prime rib was not good and had already been sent back by other patrons. The proper response would have been «I’m sorry but we ran out of prime rib». I’m a business owner and that is what I would have expected from my employees.
The owner did comp our meals and was very apologetic and that was a nice gesture. I can’t say that I will return but the best of luck to him.

Unfortunately, I felt this place was over priced. I know I’m staying at a tourist location but the quality of this place does not justify the price. There is no phone, blow dryer or iron in the room. You have to walk to the front desk to get what you need. The bathroom had complimentary shampoo, lotion, and a shower cap. There was a small TV and a refrigerator. During our stay there was no coffee. They were out. The breakfast was not what I would consider a continental breakfast. There was donuts, cereal, and make it yourself waffles. I purposely stayed at this place so I wouldn’t have to drive back into town to eat breakfast but that didn’t work out. The room was clean but old. I guess you need to like old charm to appreciate your stay.

GREAT price for walk-​in stay, super friendly staff. I would come back and stay here again. Sky Ranch is for those seeking rustic, quaint, quiet, old-​Yosemite, ranch, low maintenance environment with rich history close to the park, but not with park prices. Bed was super comfortable; room had flat TV, a mini fridge, private balcony and its own bathroom. The living room area of the ranch had soft lighting, comfortable brown leather sofas, lots of old world cowboy inspired décor and space to read, write, play music on a small cd player or play the piano. I had a great night’s rest and the breakfast (which was included) had a buffet of fresh-​made waffles, hard boiled eggs, fruit, muffins, bagels, cream cheese, jams, coffee, milk and orange juice. Price was affordable at $ 149 w/​taxes included on Memorial Day. Only a 15 min drive to the entrance of the park. Overall, GREAT.
More on my stay:
I planned on being in Yosemite for a day on Memorial Day and drive back to Los Angeles around 6pm. However, the beauty of the park trapped me and next thing I know, it’s 10pm and the majestic night sky was gorgeous with twinkling lights. I was tired and thought best to not attempt to drive so late at night, by myself and for so long. I was a little nervous coming down the pitch black road and kept passing small hotels /​inns along the way when I suddenly saw the sign for Sky Ranch. I made an impromptu turn, parked, debated sleeping in my car, decided against it and went inside. The ranch itself was nicely lit, not too much light where I could still see the stars, but not too dark where it was creepy. Rebecca, who was working the lobby let me check out the place and offered me a quaint room in the main house which had its own bathroom. That was a big win.
Earlier in the day, I had walked into the Wawona Hotel inside Yosemite and it was $ 210 a night without a bathroom (shared bathrooms), $ 275 with bathroom and the Ahwahnee at the village was $ 350 at a discounted price (normally $ 450) for a single queen room.
So, I knew $ 149 was a deal, especially since it was just a 15 min drive back into the park and it was on Memorial Day.
After I settled in, I went out to the main living room area, sat down and began writing in my journal. This place is made for communal sharing where sitting in the sofa across from a stranger reading a book is normal. Tony, the night guy came by and asked if I needed anything, and by this point, I had Googled the place and learned it had a history with the ghosts! I was not creeped out by this, but rather intrigued. He asked if I wanted to know the history of the ranch and I instantly became a 10yr old girl with lots of questions. He gave me a tour, even took me outside with a flashlight to show me the grounds as he told me about the past spirits that allegedly roam the place and how the ranch was once a tuberculosis hospital as well as a military base, where planes landed, hence the name, Sky Ranch. I’m a big fan of mom-​pop shops and non-​commercial places, so the history, the location, the price and the overall friendliness of the staff was a BIG WIN for me. I would recommend this place and would go back again. The ranch also has a small pool, which might be really nice during the hot season.
All that was missing from my stay at Sky Ranch were horses and s’mores.

I don’t know where the less than 3 star reviews came from. I found the place to be a breath of fresh air, literally and figuratively.
I stayed for 2 nights in the no-​number room, i think it was called. My room was very nice, clean, cool (in 100 degree temps outside). The room was smaller than some that I’ve been in throughout my lifetime (so what?), but totally appropriate and roomy enough that it didn’t feel cramped in the least. The bed was SO comfortable. The area was great. The staff was very friendly. It’s close to the «city» of Oakhurst, if you need that, and close enough to Yosemite and Bass Lake (I think it’s called), which is probably why you’re there in the first place.
I have been eating vegan for a while now, and, being that the restaurant is known for steak, I figured I’d end up with a baked potato and salad for dinner. Instead, the kitchen made up a vegan flatbread pizza and a some kind of tomato deal special for me. Not only was it filling, it was among the very best vegan meals I have EVER eaten, and their guy whipped it up in about 15 minutes, not even on the menu. I was really floored!
I wouldn’t hesitate to stay here again. Ted, the owner, apparently loves what he does.

I went up to Yosemite for 3 days to trounce around and do some hiking. I was on the no-​plan, plan when I drove up there from S. Cal. After a long day of hiking, I called around to a few different hotels to see what the availability was. After I called Sierra Sky Ranch, I thought… what the heck, let’s give it a go.
The price was a bit steep for what you are actually receiving, as the rooms are small. Being by myself, it was not a big deal, but if I brought my wife with me, I would of felt quite cramped.
The staff was friendly, as the receptionist showed me around their facility and shared with me the rich history of the Ranch.
The food in the restaurant was very good, but a bit pricey as the hotel was.
Overall, it was a different experience, but I think next time, I would look for other options in the area like a B&B.

I went here for Thanksgiving with my family. We had a large party with well over 10 people. I guess it was some kind of Thanksgiving special. They had two tables, one that was stocked full of desserts. Another table had a basket of bread and salad with various dressings.
The atmosphere was very beautiful; tucked in the mountains a little past Bass Lake. It is very clean, but obviously looks can be deceiving. The waitress took our drink orders. The drinks were standard, I got a diet coke and everyone else pretty much just had iced tea. The rolls were dry and butter tasted odd.
Then comes the food. A heaping pile of Thanksgiving food (stuffing, turkey, ham, mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes, green beans.) that looked mouthwatering. I took a bite and it was extremely bland. The mashed potatoes tasted like they came from a box. The green beans were almost raw, and there was tons of fat coming off the meat. I had to spit it subtely into a napkin… The food was also hot and cold, I was trying to decide if I should ask them to nuke it in the microwave but just stuck it out and ate for survival, as I hadn’t eaten at all day. Not for the flavor. Quality was OK but it was very very bland.
I was wondering if maybe one of those nice looking desserts on the table next to me would make the meal a little less disappointing. I tried one of each. One was some yellow cake with white frosting. As my kid-​brother described it, sand cake with glue frosting. My other brother let me try a bite of his chocolate cake. It just tasted fake and plain gross. I then tried a bite of this pudding cake sort of thing and it was absolutely TASTELESS. I guess by then I was trying to find SOMETHING good about this food but no, this tasted like flavorless dough. Lastly I took a bite of pumpkin pie, which was also an eye-​roll but «ok». It was no more than something bought from costco and equally as bland as everything else.
As I was eating this tasteless dough, the waiters/​waitresses kept placing plates of these nasty desserts to fill in the spaces. Why? I don’t know. Maybe they just wanted to get rid of it, because it’s not like customers were coming over and eating it all.
Marie Calender’s turkey dinner is more flavorful than this…
I’ve gone here before, and had steak and lobster and it was good. this was just atrocious.: /​
