Ben & Jerry’s

Their ice cream quality is excellent, the flavor menu is outstanding and diverse, the staff members are very friendly, but the prices here are just way too high for this to be my regular frozen treat destination. I’ve always loved Ben & Jerry’s, but now it seems that as the years go on; prices keep doubling (As of this review, single cones cost around $ 4 – 5). Ice cream is one of those treats that all should be able to afford, it’s just a simple mixture of ice, rock salt, heavy cream, and flavor, but I guess times change, we just have to put the days of Thrifty ice cream behind us and drop a few extra greenbacks for this «luxury». All in all, I’d return to this place, I’ve got to be able to get my Phish food fix or to be able to stop my Cherry Garcia sweats :)

We stopped in during a visit to Oakland and it held up to the B&J’s that we have come to love. The service was great, store was clean, parking easy across the street, and the ice cream as good as we would hope.
My only critique would be that there was only one person working, so when the movie let out, there was a rush and she was overwhelmed. Not her fault, but I would suggest at least one more person to be on.

I have been here off and on throughout the years. The cookies in the cookie sundae are never soft and fresh. Just donate them at the end of the day. I used to work in a bakery. I know when product isn’t fresh and I know there aren’t excuses for it. The ice cream is okay, but I prefer Ben and Jerry’s out of the pint over this. Couldn’t even tell you why. I guess the stale cookies muddled the experience.

Really good ice cream but the girl messed up my order the first time. Thankfully it was no big deal to get the right flavor. Super nice staff.

Usual break time work in area come to this place 2xwk… asked for my usual cup of ice after purchasing a $ 10 dollar two scoops of ice cream in a waffle cup and was asked to pay .20 for a cup of ice to go are u serious… they just lost a committed customer!

Closed out a rather destructive (food and drink-​wise) weekend with an out of town friend here. This was my «dinner» for the evening. Went with the large cup (fits 2 – 3 scoops, 3 scoops is no extra charge) Mint Chocolate Chunk, Strawberry, and the employee’s recommendation of Hazed and Confused. I liked the Strawberry the best, as that’s my ice cream of choice and it tasted really fresh. The Mint Chocolate isn’t mint colored as I thought, but still good. I was indifferent to the Hazed, it was described as having a Nutella feel to it (which I don’t really like), but it was serviceable in the cup. It’s a little pricey ($ 6 in change I think), but a good way to end the evening after a long day of walking around in the sun. Convenient location in Jack London, and has outdoor seating as it’s rather hot inside.

I can’t figure out why this place has such low ratings. We came here last night for a scoop after dinner. We were acknowledged immediately. We chose something they were out of, she was very apologetic. We chose something else (chunky monkey and salted caramel) she promptly got us our ice cream and off we went. Overall excellent experience.

Do they not taste their milkshakes? Terrible! Coffee toffee milkshake and sweet cream and cookies milkshake tasted weird… Almost bitter or spoiled. Doesn’t help that they were 8 dollars each.

Why does this place have low ratings? I came here a couple days ago with my partner and the experience was good. The workers were patient with us because we couldn’t decide what we wanted. Cup? Cone? Waffle cone? So many delicious choices! I got a kid’s cup and changed my mind because I got jealous seeing that my partner got a waffle cone. They were happy to change it for me. I also love that it is walking distance from home.

Expensive for a small scoop of ice cream. Paying $ 4 something for the amount of those $ 1 Ben & jerry containers you can get at Safeway. Maybe even less than that. Sounds and looks good but taste doesn’t match up. Not too many flavors compared to other ice cream parlors.

Everyone keeps saying «But it’s Ben and Jerry’s». .. $ 5.99 for a scoop of ice cream???
Not me.. Just went on the $ 5.99 ice cream diet.. .. as in, I saved $ 5.99 by not buying a scoop of ice cream.

Absolutely fantastic. Came here while waiting in line for a free screening at the local Regal theater across the street. I ended up getting the sweet cream and cookies on a cone. It was creamy and delicious. The spot sells other things such as different combinations and sundaes and ice cream to take home as well. The girl that helped me was very nice and recommended a few flavors to me when I couldn’t quite decide. I really liked the quality of the ice cream and would definitely recommend checking this spot if you’re in the area!

You can’t go wrong with Ben & Jerry’s. You know exactly what you’re going to get when you walk in. A plethora of flavors to choose from as well as a great assortment of cones/​brownies/​cookies to indulge in with your ice cream.
Although, when did a scoop of ice cream become $ 5.99??? I guess I just haven’t gone out for ice cream in a while.
There was only 1 employee working on Thursday evening at 7:30pm, so there was a bit of a wait to be served, but it wasn’t horrible.
One of the girls in my group found a hair in her ice cream, halfway through her cone. The employee was very nice about replacing the cone or refunding my friend, which was nice.
It’s a good option for dessert in the area, since all of the other bakeries are closed at that hour, and you may not want to go into a sit down restaurant for dessert.

The group met here last Saturday prior to walking JLS for the Farmer’s Market, I didn’t order anything because I’m CHEAP, a whole lot of people in our group either ordered a smoothie or ice cream, we received excellent service when we were there, There was only one gal there at the time, didn’t take to long for orders to be done.

This place is a hit or miss… usually a miss and today was no exception. They were out of what we came for which was oatmeal cookie chunk. We were told its in the «Graveyard”(not common knowledge anywhere)…confused my friend asked if it could be pulled from the graveyard to which the employee finally stated it would not be coming back. The employee could have simply stated its been discontinued avoiding confusion over the meaning to begin with. The employee was nice, but internal jargon whether it can be googled or not shouldn’t be used to tell a customer you no longer carry an item.
Either way I ordered 3 cookies and because I LOVE strawberry milkshakes and have never had one from them I ordered one. It didn’t take long at all, but this milkshake doesn’t taste like strawberry at all, and most certainly doesn’t look like one as you can see. I’m disappointed because I got a large one that was about 5 dollars (they only have small or large sizes)…but I’m throwing it away since it has no flavor… slightly sweet milk is what it taste like. Wish I had tasted the shake before I left so I could at least get something else that at minimal had flavor. Unless it was a bad day for shakes, I wouldn’t recommend a milkshake from here or their strawberry ice cream that looks and taste more like poppy seed ice cream… the whip cream was the best part of this shake :(

You yuppies can have your Blue Bottle coffee, I’m goin’ to B+J’s for a frozen banana. Came here on a Thursday afternoon and was greeted by the sweet, sweet smell of fresh-​baked waffle cones. The service here is obviously enjoying their jobs, despite the ear-​splitting choas of an train basically passing through the front door every 15 minutes.
I don’t know if I caught a one-​off, but if you look in the self-​serve freezer, a two-​pack of chocolate-​dipped frozen bananas was only $ 4. God knows what near-​expiry fruit I got myself into, but it was delicious and a great deal. Free wi-​fi means I can sit there taking 3 hours to eat my banana while playing iPad games and no one can say anything.
Minus the tiny water cups and horrendous train traffic, this B+J’s is the place to be.

Time: 1:07pm/70°F intermittent clouds
Purpose: Has this free come day scribble down on calendar and had alarm set at work. At lunch time me and coworkers the ones that are (not) lactose intolerant took free shuttle down to JLS.
Ambiance: Bright vibrant place with all things relating to cows and ice cream. Your usual ice cream parlor place with a few high tables/​chairs inside no seating outside however at this location seatings can been seen practically everywhere, three benches out front that seems empty all the time. For what ever reasons inside was kind of noisy either from compressors on fridge and freezer or fan running at high speed. It’s still comfortable inside but kids may expect more from it.
Staff: I can’t say anything today as it was a plan day, many of them were friends/​family members that volunteer on this day. Everyone single one of them has a smile from the greeter to the person scooping it and even the ones outside handing out menu leaflets.
Cleanliness: Immaculate to industry standards.
Eats/​Drinks: One scoop of coconut/​chocolate chip on waffle cone $ 1, the funds are consider to be donations. Plain cone are free. I haven’t had B&J’s in a while so it was like a virgin coming back to it. Anyways it had chunks of chocolate embedded and coconut pieces were finely shredded to the point that you can taste the soft grits on tongue. Cone itself was wrap up just peel it off as you go along.
Products: Ice cream, cones, cups, pints, sandwiches, bars, souvenirs, clothing, floats, shakes, custom orders, toppings, kids menu, can/​bottle cold drink&juices.
Punch Lines: Conviently located in the heart of JLS, theater, parking street/​private lot, hotels, restaurants, broadway shuttle (free) check operation schedule, ferry terminal, Amtrak, Costplus, bed bath & beyond, bevmo, yoshi’s, bike rentals, easy to get to, farmers markets (Sunday only) 9am-​2pm.
Tradeoffs: Great location readily available they don’t closed on winter unlike some other places. Tourist out of towners don’t need to travel abroad to satisfy their sweet tooth.
Final Thoughts: Great for those that don’t have a following of their favorite ice cream places, what ever comes up they’ll take. This location is the only ice cream parlor south of Broadway. Now if you must or really need gourmet then your choices will require you to do some serious walking/​traveling. For downtown this is as close as you can get for well branded name. There are others around in Oakland also Yumeee, Fenton’s, Dreyer’s, Smitten, Tara’s just to name a few but they’re a bit more pricey. Alameda has a couple Loards and Tuckers but also requires traveling. So for quick easy cool down this B&J’s will your best bet without serious workout to get it.

My partner and I came here on free scoop day. The line was wrapped around the counter and friendly staff passed out menus to us in line so that we could chose a flavor ahead of time — brilliant idea. We were soon approached by Mac the owner who gave us passes to cut the line since we were on duty. He was so friendly and welcoming, it was also nice to be acknowledged for our line of work as an EMT. He really seemed to be enjoying giving out free ice cream to the public. It also shows his commitment to his customers by taking the time to walk around and engage with his customers, welcoming them and thanking them as left.
Despite the store being overwhelmed with hungry customers the staff worked quickly and we’re extremely polite and friendly. I got the pineapple and passionfruit in a waffle cone and it definitely hit the spot. The pieces of fresh fruit in the Greek yogurt made it both unique and flavorful. I can’t wait to try the rest of the flavors (:

THE BEST BEN & JERRY’S IN THE SAN FRANCISCO BAY AREA!
As far as I’m concerned, this is hands-​down the BEST Ben & Jerry’s in the Bay Area.
As soon as you enter the ice cream shop, you are greeted with a warm smile by staff and an offer to try the newest flavors.
The place always smells like fresh muffins because in addition to ice cream, they also serve hot, out-​of-​the-​oven baked goods like «brookies» (brownie cookies) and banana bread. Their diverse offerings also include coffees, shakes and fresh fruit as well.
The newest ice cream flavors are always available, and it’s great to come here for a post-​lunch dessert or for an after-​movie dessert (there’s a movie theatre across the street). It’s great to visit this play any time, really – and they’re almost always open for business. Also, the place is spotless and squeaky clean, unlike other businesses that serve ice cream.
Yes, I am addicted to this place. I am addicted to the nice staff and I am addicted to the delicious ice cream. I cannot stop coming back for more.

I’ve had Ben & Jerry’s before but this was my fist time actually going into a Ben & Jerry’s. Everything in the menu looks so heavenly. Pretty difficult to make a decision when every flavor looks mouth watering. The good thing is that you get to try small samples of ice cream which helps on deciding on what you want to get. I don’t think I’ll ever have a favorite flavor when I love everything on the menu.
I also like how you can get any ice cream made into a shake. It’s a good idea if you’re in a hurry. The staff is very friendly from the moment you walk in, to the moment you leave. Always with a smile which makes you want to come back.
The negative reviews that read were because of bad service. It would be nice of Ben & Jerry’s would pay more attention to their staff in how they treat customers. Maybe the employer should have someone come in undercover at random times. That would help a lot. Just a thought.
