History
Established in 2015.
Beyond Berkeley was founded by two former UC Berkeley graduate students who worked outside academia as social entrepreneurs and consultants. As entrepreneurs, we understand the need for more affordable, expert consulting services. Small and young organizations need often consulting help more than their larger and more experienced competitors. We wanted to create a business model that created more access for these organizations to get affordable research and analysis assistance.
We also wanted to promote career development for grad students who want to transition out of academia. Having worked with UC Berkeley’s student governments and administration, we wanted to help other grad students get experience for non-academic jobs. Beyond Berkeley functions as a for-profit consulting firm that in some ways acts like a non-profit mentoring program. With Beyond Berkeley, grad students get paid to do good in their communities, build their resumes, and gain new skills.
