Butta

My soon to be sister in law is a wonderfully beautiful, intelligent, vibrant WOC. She has dragged me to Butta a handful of times. And honestly, this is a simple review.
Every woman there is Beautiful, amazing, fabulous, and unique. Every lady is strong, fantastic, intelligent, and EXCITING AND FUN!!! And oh boy can they dance! Every where you look is beauty and a smile. What a great place to be the 3^rd Sunday of each month, no matter who you are!

my friend took me to butta while visiting oakland from chicago last fall. i pretty much had the time of my life. danced my ASS off. LOVED the company of so many beautiful brown women. this party is NOT to be missed. i gotta find something like it in the chi… which i MIGHT have in bblyss productions… but we’ll see.

hmm, i’m in trouble…
… uh, cuz i can’t dance for shit. but i try to make up for it by smelling good, paying for shit, doing push ups with my tongue, and maintaining a generally positive, pleasant attitude. lolz
butta is the first time i felt comfortable dancing. it could’ve been the contact high i got on the patio beforehand and bob marley’s «three little birds» playing, but i was surrounded by beautiful women with wicked smiles and perhaps i was really feeling myself at that brief twilight zone moment. :)
ooh, and i was a victim of a walk-​by booty grind while making my way towards the back bar. that alone upped this review one star.

not a full review, but FYI butta is definitely stillpoppin every third sunday, whether the URL works or not.
and i definitely plan around it — as supposedly «quuer-​oriented» as the bay area is, there are surprisingly few venues for queer women of color and our partners.
also check out velvet in east oakland (not for gentrifiers), and coochilicious if you really want to get sicwidit.
otherwise, stick to mango and the lexington, both in san francisco.

a party i plan for due to the gorgeous girls of color, fab musica, and outdoor dancing that’s off the hook. the party starts to get packed about 7 and ends around 9 – 9:30 since it’s on a sunday
it is a task to get from one side of the club to the other, but hey, that’s the beauty of butta!

A dance event geared towards grrls of color (but everyone shows up) held every third Sunday of the month at The Oasis in Oakland. I had a ball the first time I went. Lots of friendly people and great music to dance to under the stars (there’s an outside dance area in the back). The only negative (well two for me) is that since its only held once a month, lots of people tend to show up but the actual club doesn’t have enough space. When you first walk in, the bar is right there overflowing with customers trying to get a drink. And don’t even get me started on the lines for the bathrooms. Other than that, the atmosphere is nice (along with the contact high) so check it out…
