Offering a Sacred Space to Dance and Move however you Feel Inspired… Without Talking, without Drinking, but with the Best DJ’s in the Bay Area, in an 8,000 sq ft. 1924 Historic Ballroom… Uptown Oakland — Historic Sweet’s Ballroom — A FreeForm Journey of Movement!!!

History

Established in 2008.

Ecstatic Dance, for us, was started on the Big Island of Hawaii,

by Bodhi Tara in 2000 and Max Fathom in 2001.

Bodhi was inspired by Vinn Marti of Soul Motion,

while Max had learned of Gabrielle Roth’s 5 Rhythms

and Conscious Dance through Body Choir.

He was further influence by his experiences with electronic music

while on the Playa of Burning Man.

Max, E-lizabeth & community carried the Ecstatic Dance torch there every week until 2009. Kalani and its Volunteers now Facilitate of the Dance there.

Donna Carroll and Tyler Blank,

two AcroYoga Instructors from the Bay

were both hugely inspired while at Ecstatic Dance Big Island, and

desired that sense of community and expansive transformational energy in the San Francisco Bay Area…

…And when they found the Historic Sweet’s Ballroom

in Uptown Oakland, with it’s 1924 original,

8,000 square foot dancefloor…

they knew that Ecstatic Dance SF Bay had found a home.

Meet the Business Owner

Business Owner

Tyler Blank and Donna Carroll

began Ecstatic Dance East Bay

in May of 2008,

after falling in Love

with Ecstatic Dance Big Island,

and the energy cultivated there.

They dreamed of a similar dance

in the Bay Area, and when they found Sweet’s Ballroom,

they knew they found their Temple

for Movement, Music, and Community.

Both Tyler and Donna were introduced

to community empowerment

through the practice of AcroYoga,

and are both teachers of the form.

Wanting a way for people to transform their lives

in a more freeform way, in addition to the depth

available with partner yoga,

they were amazed at degree of transformation

that occurred with a few simple guidelines

and sacred space for people to dance

and move however they wished,

to provocative electronic and world music

played and mixed by the best DJ’s

in the Bay Area.

Both Tyler & Donna continue to teach AcroYoga

in the Bay, and Facilitate Ecstatic Dance in the Bay,

and now Ecstatic Dance is expanding world wide…
