At Fernseed… things discarded, unwanted, and unloved become new again, with imagination, a fresh coat of paint and some good, old-fashioned, blue-collar elbow-grease.
Fernseed closed sometime fall of 2010. It was a cute little shop not far from my house. Always good for little giifts.

Fernseed was a great place to browse on a weekend afternoon… there are so many items to discover and investigate. The store holds items ranging from small to big and something for everyone. I do really love that most of the items are reclaimed and refabricated in one way or another, and keeping it out of landfills. The rest of the stuff comes from local artists, reasonably priced. I bought an awesome chair that looked even better in real-life. The second half of the store is a treasure chest for those creative types who can conjure up art projects from Fernseed’s shelves of «stuff». If you have things you plan to give to Goodwill, consider donating them to Fernseed to give that item a chance to live another life as another form… you’ll even get store credit for future purchases! It’s well worth a visit and Kristine and owner is a pleasure to talk to… she will tell you all about how she has transformed many of the loveley objects from trash to gold!

You know how you find a place, and instantly you’re so glad you did? Go to Fernseed. You will find a little store with a big heart and accessible, smart design. Last week I purchased a solid walnut bedside table – $ 11! And a globe with a refurbished base – $ 8! The owner was there and kept telling me how happy she was I had found these pieces; what a great lady!

Really smartly upcycled furniture and home décor at nice prices and probably the hippest retail spot in the Dimond District. Was so ready to buy cool chairs twice but none of the ever acknowledged me or even gave me any eye contact. No matter how fabulous the stuff is in a store, the place might as well be a museum of curiosities if the people who work there don’t practice some basic hospitality and customer service.

Imagine a wonderful little place that used to be boring, filled with interesting objects, some of them easy to identify, others not so easy, some of them old, some of them… interesting. Tiny jars full of living plants. Old games, brought back to life. Bits of previous lives, reincarnated as jewelry and furniture. This is fernseed. I wandered in while my dog was being groomed down the street at Paws and Claws(see that review too) and was enchanted. After a conversation with Laura, decided that I’d found my new spot for interesting gifts and housewarming presents. Spread the word. This place deserves to succeed.

cute store, neat idea. they refurbish/reclaim unwanted and broken items, then sell them in their new cozy form. they take little jars and make them mini terrariums, reupholster beat up sofas and make them funky chic, etc. the store was a bit sparse, but had a nice aesthetic. a good place to buy gifts. a nice local addition to the neighborhood.

Love this place. Went a few weeks ago at the suggestion of a friend. Wanted to buy everything but settled on a cute plant in a salad bowl and a notebook. Got a lot of inspiration for repurposing items in my home(my kids came home and made their own terrariums!) Check out this new neighborhood place — it’s wonderful!

I was delighted to see this new business open in my neighborhood. My friend bought a green leather loveseat there for $ 95 and they delivered it for an extra $ 25. They had lots of cool refurbished stuff, lots of it painted red! They are into repurposing what would head into landfill. They also have a lot of great local art. I didn’t see anything I could live without on my first visit but I will be back.
