Specialties
We specialize in making hand-tossed artisan Pizzas, both in our mobile wood-fired pizza ovens, and in our stone/gas deck ovens at our new fixed location, the Doughjo.
We feature locally sourced, mostly organic ingredients, and make just about everything from scratch daily.
We are available for on site catering and private parties across the greater Bay Area.
History
Established in 2010.
I built my first wood fired pizza oven in my backyard during the winter of 2009. I taught myself how to make pizzas at 950° and held pizza parties for the neighborhood. By the summer of 2010 I had completed the building of our first Mobile wood fired oven, and I hit the streets of Oakland in search of a place or places to sell my food. After several months of doing private parties and underground events, we officially formed the business in March 2011, and our first public gig was the April 2011 Art murmur in Oakland Ca.
Fast forward three years, and we are now a small self sustaining local business, with two pizza trailers, plus a fixed location in the Laurel District of East Oakland. We hope to continue on our mission to bring great pizza to the people.
Meet the Business Owner
James W.
Business Owner
I love pizza, straight up, always have and always will. In the summer of 2009 i saw someone making wood fired pizza on the streets of Oakland and I said, yes, that’s what I want to do, someday. By the Summer of 2010 I had built my first mobile pizza oven and started doing small catering gigs. A year later, we were a fully licensed TFF (temporary food facility) and debuted at the Oakland Art Murmur in April 2011.
Since then we’ve served over 75,000 pizzas from Mendocino County all the way down to Santa Cruz, with dozens of stops in between through all kinds of weather and environments. In the late fall of 2013 we purchased a run down pizzeria in the Laurel District of East Oakland, and reopened as the Doughjo in January 2014. Focusing on good, high quality pizza has always been our mission, and now we have a fixed location for the neighborhood and surrounding areas to enjoy 5 days a week.
We will continue to do mobile events and catering too, so Come and see us!
