GameStop

These guys are super awesome, always extremely helpful, down to earth and just cool guys (and gals). I try to bring my business to GameStop in general just cuz I’ve always had good experiences at them all.
This store in particular is great, as well as the Berkeley store on Shattuck and the San Ramon store on Crow Canyon/​SRV Blvd. (in the Safeway shopping center).

This store would be great if it wasn’t constantly understaff. Be ready to wait and wait and wait some more …

Came in here after calling multiple GameStops around the Bay Area. We were looking for a specific game, used, and after talking with the San Ramon GameStop, we were told this GameStop in Oakland on 9^th St. had the one we wanted in stock. After repeatedly calling this store and only getting the voice mail, we decided to drive the distance and find out.
After telling the one guy running the store, there could have been more people in the back but we didn’t see any, what we were in search of and that we were told they had, he laughed and said they definitely do not have it. We told him we tried calling repeatedly to confirm but we only got vm. He looked confused and went to the phone/​voice mail and turned off the answering machine, then said they had been having issues with the line. I just saw him turn it off.
Look, it was probably a bad morning, someone called in sick, or whatever, it was just annoying to drive all that way for no reason, therefore I must rant.

I know there are a lot of GameStops around, but it’s usually not my scene. However, when my husband suggested we buy a game to spend more time together, I said sure why not.
The store seemed pretty small, I am not sure if all locations are the same. We did end up finding a game in the pre-​owned section (Legos Harry Potter). I was impressed by the amount of pre-​owned games and I liked it, buying at a discount sounded great to me.
They have a sign up that says buy one get one 50% off posted directly on the racks of pre-​owned games so we selected two. However upon being rung up no discount applied. The cashier let us know the fine print on the signs said electronics not games and they just didn’t have another place to post that sign. I feel this may be a ploy to trick people into committing to two games… but I hope I’m wrong because I don’t like sneaky business. We ended up putting one back.
We’re enjoying playing through the first four years of Harry Potter Legos style though! Wingardium Leviosa!

This location is fairly small, but it has a great selection of new and used games, systems, and accessories. I always rummage through the bargain game bins when I come here and usually leave with 6 – 10 used games (all genres) for less than 25 dollars. Also, the guys that work here are pretty cool, they know their games, and they are pretty funny to watch when they disagree on games or tech stuff.

How should I start this off… I walked into this store at 7:40pm, picked up 2 games and started to wait in line at 7:42pm. Now, the cashiers working there were friendly and nice, but they lacked responsibility. They had a job to do, which was to ring customers up and receive their payments for the games/​electronics. They did not do their job; instead they had a jolly good time having a casual conversation with the customers and their co-​workers. Because of that, everyone who was in line, had their time wasted. We were all frustrated but we kept it to ourselves. By 8:17pm (17 minutes past closing time), the cashiers finished 2 customers. Really? 2 customers in the time span of 40 minutes… and it was finally my turn to pay for my games… at 8:20. The service here is really really horrible. The workers there refused to do their job; costing us our time. I do not recommend going to this gamestop.

I had an XBOX, PS2, and tons of games to sell. I read all the horrible reviews of this place, so I called ahead to make sure it was worth bringing the stuff in. The guy I talked to seemed very reasonable and intelligent. He said I could get $ 40 for the PS2 and $ 100 for the XBOX (I was clear it wasn’t the 360) and it would depend, on the games. I sent my husband in with all the controllers, everything full functional, and my husband tells me they are offering him $ 10 for everything. I was stunned! I had been lied to. We took our stuff back and sold it on CL. What a waste of time.

So I walk in to load my brothers GameStop card and Edward must have thought I was not buying anything he was very short with me when I asked questions he was rude. Then he took a personal call and had me waiting only to find out I could not load the card I had to buy a gift card or trade in a game of some
.never again.

These guys know what there talking about when it comes to games they don’t make stuff up, great service, great staff, horrible location. I wouldn’t go to this location by myself as every time i go there, there always shady characters outside lurking waiting to rob the innocent.

This is my favorite Game Stop in the bay area. Very knowledgeable staff, and I always appreciate the fact that they take the time to make recommendations and share their gaming insights.
Yes, as another reviewer said — there can be a wait, but I’d rather wait because staff is going the extra mile providing good customer service (a rarity these days) than just bs’ing behind the counter (I’ve never seen that here).
Exchanges/​returns are always easy. Never a hassle (another +). They’re my first stop for all of my games (no pun intended).

My nephew reserved Call of Duty: Black Ops two weeks ago for $ 5. The game is available today (November 9, 2010) for pick-​up and he did not have his reservation receipt. CRAP! Feeling optimistic, we went anyway to see if they’re able to look it up on the computer.
The guy at the counter remembered my nephew, so it was a smoother transaction than we thought! RIGHT ON.
