Jefferson Court Apartments

i viewed an open unit in the building last week, submitted a thorough package of paperwork for review, and was all set to sign a 12-​month lease this afternoon. excitedly i decided to look the place up online, check out some photos, learn more about the neighborhood, etc. that’s when i encountered these negative reviews about the move out process and returning of security deposits. it was a red flag for sure, but i figured, hey, there’s two sides to every story. i’ll simply find out lance’s position when i get to the signing. since i was really happy about moving in, any reasonable explanation would have pacified me.
unfortunately lance was not interested in answering my questions. i started with an easy one about getting internet service connected and he quickly became agitated. maybe he was already upset about whatever had made him 15 minutes late to our appointment. when i mentioned the reviews i had seen and offered him a chance to respond, he totally lost it — ranting about late fees, venting about some random unrelated tenant that hadn’t paid rent in four months, arguing that people could take the company to court if they had a problem with the lease terms… it was a strange and surprising meltdown. he then arrogantly reminded me that there were other people who wanted the unit so if i didn’t like it i could leave. my pen, cashier’s check, and i walked out the door shortly afterward, laughing all the way down the stairs at the ridiculous turn of events.
wow. renter beware.

I moved out of a 1 bedroom here in March 2011. I lived there for a little over a year. Things were fine until I moved out and till this day cannot get a call back or response from Lance — the current Landlord. I’m still out $ 900, my initial deposit. I’m planning to take him to small claims court, but if I can advise anyone else to not have to go through this, I will.

I have to agree with the first review. Lived there for a year and didnt mind the tenants or even the neighborhood despite the incredibly thin walls and horrible paint job I enjoyed the apt. Unfortunately, poor management is the true downfall. Find another place and pay a little extra because the hassle isnt worth it when you move out.
