Love it! They are the only place where I leave totally satisfied. They understand what looks good and techniques to get the perfect hair cut.

I love this place. I walked in after not having my hair taken care of for a long time and poof they made me look beautiful again. I usually come after work so I’m exhausted and Thi just gets me. She takes care of me while I just rest it’s so nice to not have to make conversation. Prices are reasonable. Only reason they don’t have a 5 is because of parking — but that is out of their control.

The lady was so nice and I was so confident that she could color my hair to the balayage I reference in the picture I showed her. Not saying that what I ended up with looks bad, but it’s different than what I wanted. People like how it looks, but I just wish it were more like what I referenced. But she was really nice and attentive!
Also, I was supposed to receive 20% off but was given $ 20 instead. So I paid $ 18 more than I should have with the 20% off.

Hanh is great!!! She’s gave me a beautiful ombré/​balyage and cut :) I have gotten my hair dyed before and I have to say Hanh is by far my favorite colorist. She’s not only good at what she does, but also nice, easy going, and time efficient. I will definitely be going to her for my hair from now on forward.

Hey guys, long-​time reader, first-​time poster. I came by to tell you all that this place is the Kaaba Muazzama for thick Asian hair. I just got my cut from Jessica, who worked my hair into silky softness perfection. I walked outta there looking like a K-​Pop star. As far as cuts go this is the best I’ve ever had. Def coming back for more.

This is my first Unilocal review ever, which says something. Let’s start with my initial phone call to set an appointment: the gentleman that took my information was rude, and definitely did not make me feel welcome, despite this being my first visit to the salon. Secondly: the stylist. She was the most unprofessional stylist I have ever encountered. She told me that she almost fell asleep on a previous client, and said she literally fell over on her while she was blow drying her hair. She also claimed to have allergies, and was sniffling and snorting in my ears the entire time while doing my hair. She also admitted she was close to dropping boogers on her previous client… I don’t care what the price is, there is no excuse for acting so unprofessional. Also, and probably not as important, she didn’t massage my head at all during the shampoo and conditioning station. She also yanked my hair while drying/​brushing it. Not to mention, my hair is fried from the dye work she did on it. After leaving the foil in for 25+ mins, she THEN asked me what color I wanted it, although I showed her as soon as I got there. She conversed with other stylists in the salon, completely ignoring my existence. The other stylists seemed to ignore their clients too, which makes me wonder why this salon has as many stars as it does.
Although it’s cheap, definitely not worth the price if you are seeking professionalism and a relaxing experience.

I went to get a cut and color. My cut was fine but my color was horrible. When we discussed the color, we decided on a natural look, kind of ombré like. It ended up being orange. Not only this, but my greys weren’t even colored. I was super annoyed but went back to have it fixed. It was fixed by dying it dark again and coloring my roots. What pissed me off is that after they messed up, they had the audacity to charge me for the greys $ 65! Why wouldn’t you do my greys the first time around and if you obviously messed up, why would you charge me? Really poor business ethic.

I’ve been coming here for almost 2 years now. Hanh is my stylist and she’s great! She always listens to exactly what I want — 2 inches off always means 2 inches off. I go to her for my haircuts and I’ve also done balayage highlights with her. At first, the balayage was a little light for my taste but Hanh darkened it and it’s been perfect ever since! I get compliments on my hair all the time and now my mom goes to her too. My mom is extremely picky with her hair but will drive 40 minutes to see Hanh! I also love the atmosphere of the salon — it’s spacious and very clean.

I was pleased with my hair color/​cut services when I came here 3 months ago and waited until my hair was ready to get a full length cut again, to come back. Unfortunately, I just called to make an appointment and things were very unpleasant and now I don’t ever want to come back again. I called to make an appointment for a hair color and cut. I was put on hold for about 10 min, and then was carelessly hung up on. When I called back, they apologized and said they were very busy right now but the guy that said that didn’t sound sincere at all. It didn’t seem like they valued my time as a customer because whoever answered the phone both times sounded very tired and as if it didn’t matter at all that my time was just wasted. I will never come back again.

Woohoo! I just got my hair cut by Brian. It’s so much better now. It’s my second short hair cut. I’ve only had long hair in the last 2 decades of my life so it’s really hard to describe what I want or like or even know it. I have a vague idea what it should and shouldn’t do. I had my hair cut by someone else 2 – 3 weeks ago but after a few fixes I am still not satisfied with my hair. Found this place on Unilocal,scheduled an appointment with Brian and in the first 10 minutes of just talking to him, I know I found the right guy for my hair. He brings a lot of his experience with hair and immediately shares his suggestions with me about what would work best with the type of hair that I have.
30 minutes later I am walking out the door a satisfied customer! Great service! Great cut! I am coming back for sure!!!

I was really looking forward to getting my hair cut here because of all the great reviews. It’s also in my neighborhood. However, this was the most dissapointing hair salon experience I’ve ever had.
The stylist was late. That’s not too big of a deal to me, because we all run late sometimes. It’s understandable.
Because the stylist was late, the woman the front desk said she would wash my hair. At most salons, the stylist looks at your hair while it’s dry, asks you what you want, how you style your hair, etc., and then washes your hair. Right off the bat this was atypical. I should have just left then.
The woman who washed my hair said to me in a really rude tone, «Wow, you have a lot of hair.» She said it in a way like I was Cousin It or something. Not nice. She was also very rough during the shampoo.
When the stylist did show up, she looked at all the pictures I showed her and said — «I’ll just take an inch off all over.» That’s not what I specified I wanted, which I said, and she said «We don’t really cut curly hair, so I can take an inch off.» So dismissive. I appreciate the honesty, but it was said in such an apathetic way that I felt really insulted.
The whole situation was really lame, and I told the stylist I did not want to keep the appointment and walked out with wet hair.
Overall, this was more the type of experience someone would expect at Supercuts than a non-​chain, mid tier salon.

The salon is cute, and they do have some good products for sale.
I work in customer service, so I know how hard it is to be perfect every time. Sometimes you’re late (we’re only human, and finding parking can be tough in that area), sometimes the client is not a good fit for what you can offer. However, there’s a way to handle it nicely. I’d suggest to the owner to invest in customer service training for the staff .
Based on the other reviews, it looks like my experience is not what most people encounter here, which is good.
Frankly, I’m glad I did not waste my money here in addition to my time. I will never go back, and if you don’t fit the profile of most of the clients posting on Unilocal,I would suggest you stay away as well.
If anyone knows of a salon in Oakland where they care about customer service and can cut curly hair, please let me know.

1) I wanted a pastel pink, but couldn’t since I had to come back session and I’m a lazy person so no XD
2) Brian suggested a purple mix with indigo color, first I was skeptical, but then I’m like it’s just hair oh wells w.e. It will be fine
3) holy smackroon, it turned out better than I thought it would ! Brian and the lady I didn’t get her name, they were amazing ! They made sure I was happy with everything !

Couldn’t wait any longer to write a review! I just left the salon 1 hour ago. & here was experience.
Got off work in SF an hour early & rushed to get to my appt. on time. Was 20 mins late but Hanh was so kind & immediately got to work. I showed her a quick picture of what I imagined & left her to do the rest! (I wanted a lighter blonde balayage ombré). I didn’t know how to really describe what I wanted, I just left her to do the magic.
Hanh is super cool & funny — I’m always wondering about how my hair stylist will be like since you’re spending 3hrs with them.
We started at 5pm & because I have so much hair, the process wasn’t done until 8pm. And even though the salon closes at 7pm, she didn’t rush it one bit and took her time with me which I’m SO APPRECIATIVE.
I’ve gotten my hair done multiple times at high end salons in SoCal & I must say hands down this was the best experience and like I told Hanh, my hair has never been this beautiful!
I will definitely be back! (That’s not what I can say about many places).

I’ve been getting my hair cut at L’amor for about 2 years now. They are amazing! I really appreciate that they know how to handle thick Asian hair. I like doing crazy cuts with my hair– undercuts, short bobs, and short bangs and they always do a great job! Several of the staff have cut my hair over the years and they are all very talented and give really great advice.
Today, I went in to finally try out their coloring services. I’ve read really great reviews and finally bit the bullet and did it! Ti (colorist) did a fantastic green ombré. It was exactly what I had in mind. Brian also gave me some dye to maintain the emerald green color. They always do an amazing job and treat me so well. I’m so happy I have a dependable salon for all my hair needs!

NEVER GET YOUR HAIR CUT HERE!!! Not only did I get the WORST haircut of my life from a woman named Jennifer, her attitude was RUDE and DISMISSIVE. When I politely brought up shaving the neck to create a slight a-​line, she said «I don’t do that.»
The entire cut is UNEVEN and SLOPPY (it’s a short bob). The left side is an entire inch longer and it’s thicker than the right side.
She didn’t listen to anything I said at the beginning, that I was growing out my bangs — she trimmed my bangs anyway. When I suggested things I wanted, she either said she didn’t do that or ignored me.
I am SO upset but I’m too scared to ask the salon to have her fix my hair, because she made me feel so uncomfortable and negative, and I don’t trust this salon (sadly, because I see good reviews below), and I’m honestly shocked by how awful the experience was…
(PS, this is the first time I’ve ever been compelled to write a Unilocal review — let this be a warning to you before getting your hair cut here. Seriously, save your money and just go somewhere else. I have to pay for another hair cut to fix this embarrassment.)
It’s not even that I want my money back, I want my hair back.

Going to a new salon can be nerve-​wracking. Will they understand the look I’m gong for? Will they be too chatty or will it be an uncomfortable silence? Will I end up paying an exorbitant amount of money for a haircut that I hate? Well, after years of going to the same person/​place — the amazing Kristine at Le Burge’t in San Francisco — I found myself in need of a new salon due to a recent move to the East Bay. Enter L’amor Paul Mitchell Salon.
I found this place due to the great Unilocal reviews and, having been there about three times now, can say I’ve had nothing but good experiences there.
I have extremely dark hair that had never been dyed before. Thi is a wizard when it comes to color and in a few sessions was able to take my nearly onyx colored hair to a beautiful golden balayage. Then, because she was on vacation, Brian helped get it even lighter with some lovely ash highlights.
And if you’re on the fence — they give 20% off to new customers Tuesday through Thursday. Gotta love that!

BRIAN IS AMAZING. I came in really upset with a really bad ombré done by another salon (chunks of black and the roots were terrible, streaky and uneven) and Brian calmed me down haha! Anyway he was really sweet and we discussed what would be the best cause of action to fix my hair.
Brian blended my base to help break the uneven lines, he painted over the uneven ones and then went back in and blended it with a comb! he was extremely careful and meticulous, I was so impressed. He then proceeded to balayage my whole head to help add dimension to my otherwise flat color. After that he washed and toned my hair to a beautiful ash/​grey/​sliver color. I felt very safe as Brian explained what he was doing every step of the way.
I think I speak for most women when I say our hair is a massive influence on how we feel about ourselves, and it’s extremely hard to find a hairdresser that listens to you and understands your style.

I am so happy right now after getting my Khaleesi hair that I don’t even know how to describe it! :) Basically my story was that of a girl who was bored with the current state of her hair and decided it was time to do something about it.
I had previously dyed my hair dark brown, bright red, auburn, highlights, strawberry blonde, etc. And I didn’t really feel like going back to any of those colors, instead — i had been entertaining the thought of going crazy bright blonde. Like Daenerys Targaryen, character from Game of thrones whose hair I had admired from the very beginning. Well why not try it for myself? Especially with halloween looming around. So I gathered my courage and went to L’amor to see if it could be done.
Luckily Hanh was there for me. This was my first time at L’amor and honestly, I couldn’t have asked for a better experience. My hair came out looking exactly like I hoped they would. A silvery shade of platinum blonde. Now my mission to become a fantasy creature has been fulfilled. Just kidding. But I love my new hair. And it looks so good with a cerulean blue dress on. Or mint color. Now I have to figure out what kind of lipstick color goes with it. But I digress.
See the before and after pics — I am beyond happy and would recommend this salon to anyone looking to try that new look you always dreamed of. These ladies will make it happen.

I came in hoping to get a pixie cut. The stylist looked at my hair (messy waves) and said «Your hair is too wavy for a pixie. It would look flat. I don’t think pixie is a good cut for you.»
Ok, cool. I’m glad she was honest with me. I went to the salon across the street and asked for their opinion. They were able to do the cut. And it looks great!
This may not be the best place to go if you have curls, waves or thick hair.

Came back to Brian on Wednesday August 12^th… And brought my hubby!!!
We were pampered! I also love the new look/​location!
Brian kept it consistent and beautifully toned my hair back to a soft natural balayage ombré ! He also perfectly cut and styled my hair. Never any complaints from me, and he works very quickly which is amazing!
Cherry on top was that my hubby wants to come back too! He said it’s the first stylist that’s actually listened to him!
