History
Established in 2010.
After an 18 year career working for larger design firms in Washington DC, New York and San Francisco, Joel Mendelson founded M/AP in Oakland, CA
M/AP is a creative firm. We have a great deal of design and construction experience — we understand how to communicate with clients and municipalities — and we strive to make the design process as simple, fun, logical, inspiring, and glitch-free as possible.

Business Owner
Joel Mendelson AIA is licensed to practice Architecture in California, and is a member of the American Institute of Architects. His career focus has been on single and multi-family residential, landscape and site planning, mixed-use buildings, resort, institutional, and restaurant work.
Joel practiced with Robert A.M. Stern Architects in New York City for ten years, where he was a Senior Associate, and provided design and team leadership on a wide range of project efforts. In San Francisco and New York, Joel has practiced at Hart Howerton, an architecture and an architecture and resort-planning firm; and with SB Architects, where he served as Senior Architect for a major mixed-use project along the Mediterranean in Beirut, currently under construction.
When he’s not designing, he’s running. Joel ran six marathons between October 2012 and October 2014, including Portland, Los Angeles, San Francisco, New York City, and Chicago.
