My husband and three co workers went here on 5-1-2015 for lunch at 11:30 a.m. The restaurant was not packed when they arrived and then after they got there the restaurant started to get packed with people because it’s so small. they got a table and the waitress approached the table and asked them what drinks they wanted my husband ordered a horchata his three co workers ordered sprite, water and coca cola. When the drinks arrived the cups the drinks were in were dirty and my husbands co worker had a fly in his sprite and my husband had a gnat in his horchata and they had lip marks on the cups so the dishes are not cleaned well and they had to wait an hour and a fourty five minutes for their food when the food(they all ordered burritos) came to the table the plates were dirty they were so upset with the dirty dishes and the long wait they just walked out. Very disappointing. We’ve had better Mexican food from a taco truck. If your serving food on dirty dishes and making people wait a hour and fourty five minutes for their food the food better be good and it better be on a clean plate. They don’t even deserve a restaurant. It’s just disgusting. Do not recommend this place and I’m surprised they have four and a half stars and reviews that people actually love the food. If poor quality food and poor service and filthy dishes is what your looking for then yes come here.

Mariscos El Tata is a redo of Rosita’s with more emphasis on seafood(Mariscos and ceviche). first mexican eatery i’ve seen with a new laminated menu. impressive with pictures. eats: lengua regular burrito(7.5) –new wages pushing up menu prices. –tender lengua, not a lot of it. –initial taste of bean, soggy rice a turnoff rest of burrito mostly firm rice, lengua. salsa came in small containers 3.5 stars for better than average taste. frijoles refritos: –value? depends on the pervailing wage in town. varies for every city… –saw freshly made tortilla chips(or looked like it). not a fan so didn’t care for it.

I stopped here with some clients when we were viewing property in East Oakland and absolutely starved. We all got the same thing, carne asada super tacos, and they were absolutely amazing. We had a little dog with us so we ate in my car, but while we were waiting for our food we saw gorgeous, giant platters of every delicious Mexican thing I could imagine going by. The Mecheladas looked great and you could get a bucket you beer. Sunday Funday! We did not get the beer.

Sorry but I would not recommend this restaurant. I ordered a Super Carne asada burrito with shrimp. At first bite it was bland but as I ate the shrimp I noticed it was not cooked very well and appeared to still be gray in color. Additionally it was not de veined. Gross! They refunded me with out issue. Thanks but no thanks!

By far the BEST mariscos spot I’ve ever tried. Better than Vallarta! The octopus and shrimp were so good. Vallarta’s seafood is nothing compared to El Tata. Server was also very friendly and attentive. Ordered molcajete El Tata. Portion was excellent for the price(23).

I know this place is for seafood, but your carne asada might as well be feed to the dogs. Worse burrito ever!

Came back with my husband to try more dishes. It was on Saturday around 2pm and the place was packed! We were lucky in that someone was leaving so we got a table quickly. There was a Mexican band playing songs and the restaurant was loud but lively. Service was a bit slow because of how busy they were, but servers were nice and pleasant. I ordered Campechana, which is just like coctel but has more seafood in it. I tasted shrimp, octopus, squid, scallops, oysters, fish, etc. It was sooo good. I liked it more than the coctel I tried there. My husband ordered Machaca con Huevo which was more like a scramble with onions, tomatoes, peppers with the reconstituted meat. I liked this preperation of Machaca better than the other one I’ve tried. The restaurant can get a bit warm due to the open kitchen. But the food is worth all that. I highly recommend this very authentic Mexican restaurant. It is one of my favorite restaurant in Oakland.
