Business Owner

Michael Graham has taught and coached at San Francisco State University, California State University East Bay, Sacramento State University, Santa Clara University, and the Crowden School. His students have included principal cellists and concerto soloists with the Young People’s Chamber Orchestra and the Young People’s Symphony Orchestra. He also greatly enjoys teaching adults.

Mr. Graham works with his students to make cello playing easy, enjoyable, and music-​centered, focusing on relaxed and efficient solutions to technical challenges, and on listening carefully and imaginatively to create beautiful music. Playing the cello requires a commitment to regular practicing in order to make it rewarding, but the payoff is immensely satisfying!

Mike Graham is an exceptional cello teacher and performer. I play cello at an intermediate level and have been taking lessons from him regularly. Mike has opened me up to many new ways to listen, make a better sound, and perform more musically. He has completely transformed my vibrato. He’s very positive in his feedback and always helps keep you focused on those next few steps to become a better player. Wonderful teacher! Mike is an amazing cellist. But he excels at teaching the eager-​but-​busy adult. He’s particularly brilliant at helping you figure out the best way for YOU to think about sound and technique and the underlying music.

I’m new to Mike’s studio, but have learned so much in the past month that picking up the cello as an adult beginner feels more adventurous than daunting. Mike’s extremely awesome at explaining the (at times mysterious) art of cello playing. Others have mentioned the positive feedback and handsome dog. Add to all this kind patience, experienced musicianship, and you’ve pretty much got a gold star /​A+ /​kickass cello teacher.
