Now $ 10 for men’s haircut. Looks like they got more workers since they’ve been busier too.

So glad I tried Ming’s! I have noticed this busy salon for a couple of years and finally tried it today. I had neglected my hair for many months and needed some major shaping. I showed the stylist a photo if my hair from a previous cut and she was able to replicate it really well. Everyone was smiling and singing with folks of all ages getting hair cuts. It was a lot of fun and I will go back. I have always paid around $ 65 for hair cuts in the Bay Area, but this was only $ 18! My stylist also had 20 years of experience. I am only giving 4 stars because even though Unilocal reported credit cards were accepted there, they were not and it was a little bit of a confusing process as a walk in. They ushered me to a chair to talk to a stylist, then did a shampoo and then I ended up with a different stylist. I think this will be easier next time since I know the process. I also liked my stylist so much that I would request her next time too. Cool place!

Stay away from this place! One of them once started the hair cut by running the clipper through the center of my head, front-to-back, like a tractor going through a cornfield. And he was just giggling. I ended up with the shortest and the worst hair cut of my entire life, and I had to go to an event the next day. I was shocked and furious and profusely sweating and hair got stuck on my neck. So he offered to shampoo, which I thought was complementary but still charged me for it.

was here to cut my hair just a little shorter(about an inch)…so i was expecting to pay $ 9 for my haircut but the lady who cut my hair asked for $ 16…she said only grandpa/grandma’s haircut would be $ 9…i was like O0O, mine just got about an inch shorter and she did not cut much of my hair…~~~If I pay $ 16 for a good haircut, i would not write this review/give them one star… the back was messed up and not cut right… so i went back to the salon and asked one of the stylist to fix my hair for me(the lady did my hair was not there), and I was told that I need to pay another $ 12 to get it fix… once again I had my O0O face… I spent about 10mins talking to the guy and requested to see the boss… finally he fixed it for me and I gave him tips for fixing my hair even he did not take it… I totally do not recommend the female stylist unless anyone really wants to take a risk with another stylist at this store for a haircut…

8 dollar men’s haircut, 2 dollar tip. 10 bucks and you are done, I make the trip out here for some good food and a quick cut. its good! If you are a girl though, I don’t know how it’ll be. Additionally, they are good at asian style haircuts.

Unilocal you need to update this page. Mings moved to 8th st and the existing location on 7th is now owned by Raymond(who used to work at Mings) and that shop has a new name. I personally prefer Mings, much more stylish cut.

Review for men’s haircut: — $ 8(although so are all the other 5 salons on this block!) — Stayed open longer to accommodate us — Quick but good haircut and happy to adjust the cut as requested — Very friendly and kind staff

Seriously — beware. Unless you know the barber, avoid this place at all costs. An attractive price, but these fools just sick their least trained barber on you, who then proceeds to a) screw up simple fades, and b) use the electric razor on the crown of your head? Incredibly foolish. Edit: after walking around and(bizarrely) finding another Mings on 8th St, I should correct the record. This review is for the 7th St location(the one Unilocal lists as the address). However, the pics people have are for the 8th St location, and possibly the reviews too.

What the #&%@! $ 16 for some nut to hack away at my tresses?! How bloody difficult is it to cut a bob? Here is why they get .05 stars: my bob had spots that were totally uneven jerk nicked me 2x’s with his scissors when told by my companion to address his mistakes, he did not. Never again.

This is my most favorite place to receive a good quality, worth my money hairstyle and hair dye. I received a wonderful shampooing and condition from this lady, and she’s really friendly. The hair stylist who did my hair looks like a young man, and no offense, I enjoy getting my haircut from a young looking person.(I find that they actually know what you want and can view in your perspective). I just pulled out the hairstyle I want, and he gave me what I want for the regular price of a haircut. Hair dye is worth it too. $ 20 for hair dye + someone helping you? If you can’t dye your hair by myself, this is totally worth it. Because good quality hair dye cost almost the same amount. They are very clean and efficient. They are bilingual, speaks Chinese English and mandarin. Very convenient spot too. Love it a lot! I paid $ 40 for haircut, hair style, hair dye, shampooing, deep conditioning, and a friendly efficient barber. He even added on finishing touches that would look nice for my hair style for free! Highly recommended :)

I needed to get a haircut before Chinese New Year and my regular lady was on maternity leave so thanks to Unilocal,I came across Ming’s Salon. Ironically it’s right next door to Perfect who I use to go to years ago but stopped when one of the stylist(not the owner) kept trying to upsell products I didn’t need as well as try to push off items on her other customers too. So onto Ming’s — men’s cuts are $ 8 but my cut ended up being $ 16 without the wash so I guess it’s about average for a Chinatown cut. They have lots of stylists so despite it being busy, there wasn’t a wait which was nice. The cut itself ended up being shorter than I wanted though as even though I specified I only wanted layers in the front, he layered the back as well which might be nice in the summer but a bit cold in the winter.

Snip snip for me n bzzzz bzzzz for him :) Our stylist. not sure of his name., will definitely find out next time, worked quickly and precisely to cut our hair the way we wanted it. $ 8 for him. what a deal. and they even had his favorite styling wax. Although mine was cut a little shorter than I had wanted, The fast service and work will bring me back here. Kill 2 birds with one stone, feed my hungry tummy at VH around the corner, then come for a trim at Ming’s Salon after.

Been coming to Ming’s for ages. First came here when they first opened and had a special for their grand opening. Donny, the owner and stylist, is from Hong Kong and knows how to cut asian hair. I liked it so much, i’ve been coming here ever since. The prices for guys is super cheap — $ 8 for a cut. The wife and sister have also been here but get charged for washing and a longer cut, so their’s run up around $ 15 or even $ 20. Still, they are very personable and are very busy. No point trying to make an appointment cos you’ll have to wait til the next stylist is available anyway. When Donny isn’t around or too busy, i’ve also tried the other stylists and they’re all pretty good too. But i still try to get Donny if he’s around. Like the other reviewer said, communication can be tricky but i mix it up with my broken Cantonese and English and we do ok. They do their best to please.

the place is a secret find in chinatown. located between 7th and franklin right across the street from the chinese restaurant legendary palace… in chinatown, there are a plethora of hair salon — there is even two on this street so don’t get confused. they are right next to each other. one is called perfect hair cut and the other is called ming’s salon. you’ll know you’re at ming’s because they are the busier of the two. WARNING: the employees do NOT speak english. or very very very limited english. you must come with someone who speaks cantonese/mandarin. luckily, my mom knows someone who works there and was able to talk to them and bargain for me :] Sam worked on my hair — a short, metro looking chinese man. he owned a salon in china but decided to come here to work, in addition he has 10+ years of experience. i had only came in for a bang trim but then he convinced me to do a lot more. i came in after work around 6 and didn’t leave til about 7ish. before coming here, my hair was a mess. i was trying to grow it out from an A-line style to a longer shoulder length hair but my hair was in the between stages and was flaring out. yuck. somehow, he trimmed my hair so that it LOOKED longer. and then he did two things to my hair. i asked him what it was called and he told me in chinese. i asked if he knew what it was in english so i could do some research on it online and he looked at me like i was stupid to even ask that. haha i got this product that straightened my hair and then a product that softens my hair. after a few days since the haircut i can vouch that those products does what it says and im still loving my haircut. i’m definitely coming back and would recommend this place!
