History

Established in 1980.

The company was founded in 1981 by Steve Nicholls and Mike Mueller.

MN operates a full scale millworking shop located in Oakland, with a staff of 25 in production and 30 or more in the field.

Their cabinet shop is now solar powered.

The firm was one of the first in the Bay Area to use state-​of-​the-​art computer technology for custom cabinetry, millwork, paneling and trim.

Rigorous attention to detail, and commitment to communicative partnerships has made the firm a leading resource for contractors, architects and designers.

Mueller Nicholls just finished an extensive kitchen remodel for us. Their bid was right in line with two other contractors we contacted, but their work was over the top. Wonderful job. They said it would take three months and they stayed right on schedule. We were almost sorry to see them leave they were so communicative and friendly every step of the way. We had the whole crew over for dinner to celebrate the job when it was done. Since then a few tiny problems with the lighting, hinges, etc have surfaced. They show up immediately and make things right.

I have known Steve Nicholls, one of the owners of Mueller Nicholls, since 2006. Not only have the clients I sent to him been extremely pleased with their high-​end design/​build work, but MN is very active in the community. MN works closely with the Oakland East Bay Symphony and is integral in raising money to support local music programs including Music for Excellence (MUSE).

We are finishing up our bathroom remodel with Mueller Nicholls and, once again, it has been a great experience. We have done a kitchen and bathroom with them now, and they have been delightful to work with both times. They worked around nap times, put up lots of dust barriers for the kids, and were lovely about letting our girls learn about remodeling. They can come out to your house and spend time talking about your project with you and then give a detailed bid. We have not gone overtime or overbudget with them on either project. They also sponsor the Bay Area Children’s Theater season and donate to Children’s Hospital, which we think is very cool.

We can’t say enough about the quality of the work done by Mueller Nicholls. They completely remodeled our kitchen and bath starting last fall. Their work is true craftmanship. Everything was custom made for our space and installed with precision down to the millimeter. They were there everyday as scheduled. At the beginning of the work they gave us a spreadsheet showing what they would be doing every day. Except for delays caused by our making changes or additions, they completely adhered to the schedule. We had never heard of a construction company acting with such punctuality, The workman were fastidious and friendly, always concerned with our satisfaction. It was a great remodeling experience. We even exchanged gifts at the end.

We just completed an extensive kitchen remodel with Mueller-​Nicholls. Their work is the best I have ever seen, and they are a joy to work with. The project was a turn-​key operation, including using their talented in-​house certified kitchen designer and having the cherry cabinets made in their 30,000 square-​foot cabinet shop. (I looked into using an independent architect and a different cabinet shop, but I liked what I saw at Mueller-​Nicholls better.) The project was completed on time and on budget. Their client list is exceptional, including the San Francisco Symphony and the Oakland Museum.

. Ours is every bit as good. Now that we are using and enjoying the kitchen, we cannot think of a single detail we would have done differently. Even though the project has been completed, the relationship with Mueller-​Nicholls continues. They come out (at no charge) to adjust how softly the cabinet doors close, to instruct us on how to care for the granite, or for any other reason. They are supremely customer oriented: if something is important to us, then it is important to them.
In short, a Mueller-​Nicholls customer is a happy customer.

Mueller Nicholls completely remodeled almost all the rooms in our home during two separate projects (one in 2004 doing the upstairs and in 2010 finishing off the downstairs and basement). When we embarked on the 2nd project, there was no doubt in our minds that MN would do this work. The outcome again was fabulous (on time and within budget) and as a result have the house of our dreams. We highly recommend Mueller Nichols — everyone at the firm is top notch!
