The Academy of Chinese Culture and Health Sciences has been providing safe and effective care to the Oakland community for over 30 years.
Phil Settels, L.Ac. contributes to the clinic and its patients by listening with presence and compassion, and by constantly honing his practice of the medicine he is so passionate about.
His studies have focused on the treatment of modern conditions using Classical Chinese Medicine, as developed and practiced in China, Taiwan, Japan and Korea. He continues to study, both in the US and in China, and currently teaches herbal medicine at the Academy of Chinese Culture and Health Sciences.
History
Established in 2012.
Phil Settels began his formal studies of Chinese Medicine in 2008, at the Academy of Chinese Culture and Health Sciences. He quickly developed an interest in Classical Chinese Herbalism, and has pursued advanced training with the Institute of Canonical East Asian Medicine, as well as training in the Kampo herbal system used by Medical Doctors in Japan.
The ACCHS Teaching Clinic provides treatment for the community in three different formats:
(1) Advanced interns guided by licensed supervisors ($ 30)
(2) Licensed supervisors, observed by a group of interns ($ 35)
(3) A Faculty member of the Academy ($ 70)
Discounts are available for full-time students, senior, military veterans, and those who have MediCal or MediCare coverage.

Phil S.
Manager
Phil is a passionate practitioner and educator of Traditional East Asian Medicine.
At the Academy of Chinese Culture and Health Sciences, he is engaged in teaching, treating patients, managing operations of the clinic, and administrating the upcoming doctorate program.
He treats patients in the Faculty Clinic, and supervises students on Wednesday from 5pm to 8pm. All treatments are by appointment.
