The owner is a really nice guy, always a big smile on his face. It’s clean, relaxing environment and all kinds of delicious food. What more can you ask for?

The best phở ever! I’m usually picky with the broth and this place is bomb! Delicious! You practically don’t need to add anything to make it right. Give it a try! And you’ll realize you’re addicted.

I come here often and can reliably say that this restaurant has reasonable prices, good customer service, is consistent, is clean and has good tasting phở. You know you’re at an authentic restaurant when most of the customers in there are actual Vietnamese people. That’s Rang Dong…

We order a banh xeo and a bun rieu. So delicious, my wife started to love this place. We will come back and try other courses. And the service was excellent. 5 stars+

The food is delicious! My favorite so far is the fried quail. Most importantly, the service is amazing! The owner is so sweet!

Rang Dong is a good phở place in Oakland Chinatown by 8th and Webster. It’s clean, plenty of space and most importantly their food is good. It gets pretty busy there during the lunch hour but they get turn around food and their tables pretty quick. Their bun vermicelli bowls are yummy, with pretty solid grilled pork. Their bun bowls are a little under $ 10. And… they take credit card(which not all Chinatown places take).

Ding Dong this place is a dud. The servers walk around dazed and confused and the rare beef in the noodles really didn’t cook because the broth was lukewarm. Yikes, hope I don’t get sick. The tea tastes like hot water and the tendons in the noodles tastes strange. Forgo this place and choose another restaurant.

First time here for lunch. I was planning on going to a different phở place, but as fate had it, I found a parking space right in front of Rang Dong. Since I’ve never been, I thought I’d give it a try. Happy I did too. Once I walked in, I was greeted immediately and seated right away. It was around 12:30 and the place wasn’t packed, but it was pretty full. I ordered my ol’ standby of raw beef/cooked brisket phở and tried an appetizer(tofu spring rolls). The service was pleasant and the food was tasty. A plus for big eaters, the bowl of phở was huge! I actually couldn’t finish. They also have banh coun, which not a lot of places seem to have. The only real complaint was it took a while. Usually lunch time meals are pretty quick, but this seemed a bit too slow for me. Will be bringing my gang here to get there thoughts.

I love Rang Dong. I started coming to the restaurant to read quietly and have a nice meal. The service was so spectacular that it became my best friend and my regular phở fix. They have awesome phở, great portions, and consistently stellar service. I’ve also enjoyed their chicken wings as an appetizer and their quail. Both delicious. I highly recommend the chicken phở with chicken broth. Rang Dong is a Chinatown treasure.

Favorite and only dish i get here is the BEEFSTEW with egg noodle soup… Yes, it comes with a nice oil sheen on the top but when you mix it thru, it has great flavors. Plenty of beef but also tendon which i tend to not eat or give to my coworker to enjoy along with carrots. Broth is full of flavor and one of the best in Oakland chinatown. I tend to have my favorite dishes at each restaurant but mainly stick to the beef stew. I will have to venture and try some rice dishes. I heard the eggplant dish is awesome so will have to try that next time!

Well we started out looking for Chinese food but ended up at this very good Vietnamese restaurant. We’re very happy with our decision. We ordered a pancake sprouts appetizer which had pork and shrimp. Delicious! We also ordered the spicy Thai seafood soup. It had incredible flavor and all the ingredients were very fresh. One of our favorites was a eggplant dish … it was our favorite. Clean, great service, hot tea and lots of free ice water. 5 stars from Phish!

Solid place to get your phở/Vietnamese food fix. I always get the phở tai. They only have one size of phở but it’s a pretty good size. Service is always good and the owners are very friendly!

Bun Bo Hue is utterly the best thing ever — it’s like the all purpose cure for all malaise. It’s pouring buckets all over the city, your feet are soaked, and you just need that bit of warmth to bring your spirits back up. Or you’re feeling sick and bland chicken soup isn’t cutting it… BBH is the the way to go. Many countries have their own equivalent of this clear-your-head spicy soup. Mexico has Menudo, Korea has Yook Gae Jang, and Vietnam’s distinctive member of this ‘hangover soup’ list is BBH. Rang Dong make one of the better bowls in Oakland’s Chinatown. There’s generally no wait and the service is fast enough to make a quick lunch stop. Can’t wait to try their Bun Rieu next.

Day two of noodles for dinner and this time, it was all about the Phở. I did another search for Phở in Oakland and was surprise to find out that there were only a few joints. Maybe all the great Asian joints are in the city… no matter, I found a place and was excited to check it out! The place is cozy. There are two dining areas separated by plants. Table cloths, outdated tiles and drabe colors solidify how outdated this place it. What made up for this and more was the staff! Omg, the older woman and man that run this place are the sweetest couple I’ve ever had in a restaurant in Oakland. They were so inviting and really catered to my needs. At the end of service, they were appreciative of my business and really made me feel special. That alone will keep me coming back! For dinner, I had the Phở Tai Chin for $ 7.75. The price can’t be beat! The soup was huge and totally worth the price tag. This beef noodle soup came with rare steak and well done brisket. The soup was filled with onions and really helped bring a crunchy texture. The soup was great and such a pleasant dish for a brisk night. They also served complimentary hot tea which I totally appreciated, being a heavy tea drinker. This place is gold to me! I’m gonna try other soups when I return. The soup was really good, maybe not THEBEST phở I’ve had but sooo good! The staff though, makes you feel like family and that goes a long way in my book! Come check them out!

Came here with a friend last weekend after seeing another friend’s Instagram post of their bun rieu(my fav vietnamese noodle soup), so I thought I should give this place a try. When we got there it was pretty empty, but it started to get mildly busy afterwards. Food came out pretty quickly, ordered egg rolls, #7 and their bun rieu. The bun rieu was good, nothing out of the ordinarily. I would say this will probably be the second place I would go for this kind of noodle soup. My friend liked his phở, he said the soup is actually clear enough that he doesn’t see a lot of oil and junk floating around(I guess that’s a good thing?).

Despite the three and a half stars, I honestly came here a bit unwillingly due to Bun Mam Soc Trang being closed on a Monday, but after seeing all the highly suggested reviews about their Bun Rieu, I had to give it a try. The lady who helped us, which I’m assuming is one of the owners of the place, insisted that we try their Bun Bo Hue as well as their Bun Rieu. I tried both and was surprised by how good it was! Their Bun Rieu was more of a tomato base than a shrimp paste base and also consisted of a pork rib that was extremely tender and flavorful. Their spring rolls were also fresh and the pork had more taste than the other places I’ve tried. I also had their Beef Carpaccio and I have to admit it has got to be the best I’ve tried so far – especially for a hole in the wall in Oakland, Chinatown. It was perfectly marinated in lemon juice and the inclusions of the toppings saturated well with the meat. I will definitely be coming back for all of the dishes I mentioned above!

Rang Dong is on the edge of Chinatown. It’s a clean and bright Vietnamese spot with the usual assortment of condiments on the plexiglass topped tables( ) I got the Phó Áp Cho(pan-fried rice noodles) which doesn’t seem to be the most common dish on Viet menus. The disc of fried noodles comes topped with chicken, beef, and shrimp for proteins along with the gravy, broccoli, bok choy, carrots, mushrooms, and zucchini( ). Pretty tasty gravy. I wanted some wok hay on the toppings which were cooked well overall except the beef which was a little tough. Here the dish is made with thin phở noodles fried only on one side( ) and the fried side is on the bottom in the gravy which speeds up the de-crispifying, which, for me, is one of the main reasons to order this( ). A-OK, but I liked the phở ap chao version at Sidestreet Phở in Alameda better which is made with thicker ho fun noodles and stayed crisper longer( ). Friendly servers. Would definitely come back to try other things on the menu.

Phở broth has some good flavor. The best I’ve ever tasted. I will say that I’m not an expert, but I know what good flavor is. This is my third or fourth time here and every time, I leave fulfilled and happy that I came again. Having the crispy egg rolls, delish. Prawn and pork phở, Hella good

Ever feel a little skittish or hesitant when eating at Vietnamese restaurants? I am when I see all the chopsticks and Chinese spoons sitting on the side of the table. The tables and chairs have a slight sticky feel, I have a feeling of needing to take a shower after eating there. But no worries at Rang Dong. A large restaurant that has about 20 tables of various size. Unlike many of the other Vietnamese restaurants they don’t stack the utensils at the tables but actually bring them out when you order. The restaurant has nice décor and feels clean. They have an extensive menu but we decided on: Phở Ga: broth was excellent, portion size was average. One of the better Phở I’ve had since moving to Oakland. Imperial Rolls: these came out piping hot. I thought these were a little over priced for three rolls but good nonetheless. Singapore Noodles: it was this or vermicelli, so I chose this dish which is lightly seasoned with Indian curry powder, giving the thin rice noodles a yellow hue. Along with a light gravy with assortment of meat and vegetables. If you like curry flavor, you’d like it. Service was average. I met the owner and he was really friendly. Clean restaurant and good food, what’s not to like? Rang Dong is a good choice when in Oakland Chinatown.
