I frequent this place because it’s literally right next to my house (less than 2 miles away). I also don’t understand why this SafeWay location averages 2.5 stars on Unilocal.
This blows my mind a little bit…
The staff members are friendly. They do their job, and they have great customer service. Personally, I have never seen an employee on his/​her phone while at work, so I’m thoroughly impressed by that. When idle, they shelve candy at the lanes. I seriously have no complaints here. Many of the employees try to maximize your savings, and they serve delicious food at the deli! Coffee is decent as well! A small cup is about a buck, and a large cup is maybe 1.50 $ or 2 $ (somewhere in that vicinity).
I’ve had good experiences at this place, and I’ve been coming here very often for the last two years! :)

Came here twice for their sandwhiches in their deli section. TWICE they gave me small sized sandwhiches! Might as well go somewhere else and get the same price. Other safeways don’t do that, just this one.

If you order a sandwich from the deli, make sure you let them know what bread you want and what you want on it. Otherwise they will make it whatever way they choose and offer you extra ingredients on the side. Other than that it’s okay.

We moved to Oakland in October & have been going to this Safeway since. I like this store! Everything always seems to be in stock, it’s laid out pretty nice (besides it’s small isles), plus the staff is always nice & helpful. The lines can be a little long & parking isn’t always the best, but the pros most definitely outweigh the cons!

Not bad for your staples. It’s smaller than other Safeway’s but can do the job if you’re not looking for organic or a «healthy» selection (Gluten Free, Organic, Locally Grown, etc…) I still go out of my way to Trader Joe’s or Farmer Joe’s. I’d like to see this place consider those options. Why I’m only giving this a 2-​star review is because the lines are always long. You’ve been warned. One would think that if you have more than three people waiting in each line, call for extra help and not wait until the lines are halfway down the grocery aisles.

Does Safeway have surveillance cameras recording the parking lot? Someone broke into my car while I was shopping for Thanksgiving last week. It’s the second time my car is vandalized while I buy my groceries and nobody seems to care about it.

Safeway is great, but this location kinda sucks. It’s still a safeway but it’s really small, the parking sucks it’s like you gotta climb coliseum seating to get to the store, and the lines are always long. I guess if you live in this part of the oakland hills you’re kinda stuck with it.

this place sucks. cashiers think it’s more important to check their Facebook than to ring up customers. do not get any frozen products here because you can tell the ice cream has melted at least once before purchase. I got pre-​melted ice cream several times here. get your shite together man. it’s not that hard to keep the ice cream from melting. parking also sucks. service is usually very slow. there are like 2 male cashiers who are nice, quick, and friendly. there isn’t anything else redeeming about this Safeway. avoid at all costs. manager should be replaced by someone who can kick ass and make things run right.

In general I like Safeway, but I don’t think I’ll be going back to this one. It’s kind of annoying because it’s small, so it doesn’t have many things. It doesn’t have a real bakery or meat department. The parking lot is annoying. I can’t remember what else they don’t have, but I know every time I go there, there’s at least one thing I can’t find. I wish I could remember now… but oh well. Just go here for basics but don’t expect to find more unique/​specialty things that might be available at the bigger stores.

This Safeway is small, poorly lit and understocked. As with most Safeway stores — it focuses on packaged food. Produce isn’t great here — it’s kind of scary — and there’s barely any organic and no local food to be found. This is a place to go for beer & chips — rather than getting shot at La Franchi’s
The parking lot is tiny and cramped and everyone seems to be in a rush to get in or get out before anyone else — you take your life in your hands in that lot.

I recently moved and this is my closest grocery option. It really sucks.
This Safeway is larger than my old Safeway in Montclair but it has a shitty selection of things. It’s super old, so old that the hanging advertisement in the meat section is faded out. I don’t even know how that’s possible since there isn’t sunlight anywhere near the sign. It’s an ad for stir fry and it looks disgusting and clearly was made in the early 90’s. This location reminds me of Yucky (Lucky) in Montclair, except a lot worse.
The shopping carts are all fucking broken and makes the whole ease of having a cart inconvenient. I’m convinced they get all the broken down carts from all other Safeway stores in the general area.
The parking lot is fine… if you find a good spot.
They DO sell wine and beer. But, apparently, they don’t sell hard alcohol.
Hopefully this store will be updated because it sure can use a facelift. From now on, I’ll be going back to Montclair.

Plus: location is convenient, close to home. The cashiers are nice.
Minus: very small store. If a customer stands in a lane with their cart, well, you’re trapped. Please pay attention when driving in the parking lot. Not well stocked and don’t carry a lot of things.

Updated 5 years later (like, 5 years almost on the dot. whoa). I live in the area again, not with my parents though because I’m a big girl now.
They still don’t sell alcohol.
There’s still a shortage of cashiers all day, every day. Any given point of time you walk in here, you will wait in a line that stretches all the way down the aisle because for some unknown reason, they hardly have any cashiers.
Also, lately the freezers have been broken SO THEY DON’T HAVE ICE CREAM. WHAT.
ugh. Spend the extra few minutes and miles to go to Safeway in Montclair.
