History

Established in 2012.

During her young age Ayu traveled with her Father, who was an Ambassador from Ethiopia, to different countries. She was introduced to different cultures and cuisines. During that time, she worked for many four and five star hotels holding different types of managerial positions.

In 1989, Ayu decided to open an Ethiopian restaurant in downtown Oakland. The restaurant operated for five years and closed its doors right after the Loma Prieta earthquake in 1995. Ayu decided to go back into hotel management and in 2012 she opened Sheba!

Business Owner

After successfully testing her 100% Teff Injera chips on customers, Chef Ayalnesh began packaging and selling Sheba Chips as a commercial snack to the Bay Area’s Whole Foods as well as other local specialty health stores. Her desire to promote Ethiopian cuisine has led Chef Ayalnesh to expand her brand to hummus, dips, and a variety of lentil dishes.

Because of her passion for cooking and constantly wanting to explore new heights in the culinary field, Chef Ayalnesh split her commercial kitchen. Sheba’s kitchen also serves as a full service restaurant that prepares an exquisite fusion of traditional and contemporary Ethiopian dishes five times a week in the Clarion Hotel.
