The pupusas from that particular taco truck are never fresh the last 3 times I went and barely had any meat. gross. The lady had placed my bag in the pick up window and didn’t say anything the last time I went .so there I was waiting until I politely asked what’s taking so long .she asked«oh is this your order?». I’m like I thought you were supposed to know .she rudely ignored me when I asked her why she didn’t call out my order.

They are located in between mi ranchito and the physical restaurant on foothill . A few years ago Anthony Bourdain(travel channel) did a segment and this establishment made the cut. The place has really nice owners and some really hard workers. Customer service is always on point(customer service adds two stars) The food is amazing and cheap When ordering pupusas the minimum is two pupusas per order . I’ve ordered pupusas de loroco and de queso. The pupusas are made fresh when ordered(2 stars added for that) the order came with a sauce(not spicy at all) and this coleslaw cabbage thing that’s real tasty . The quality of the food made it impossible to give them anything lower then a 5 star rating. 5 star in my book and i shall come back and add a few pictures highlight the food.

On MLK Day while all you good-hearted people were out toiling on volunteer work and civil service, my honey and I were all about what truly matters: watching Swamp People, stuffing our faces, getting the itis, lather, rinse, repeat. He chose Lois the Pie Queen(meh) and I made the genius choice of Salvadorean food. After daunting and disheartening perusal, I eventually found Tamales Mi Lupita and decided to give it a try. I mean I don’t mean to get all evangelical and freak you guys out but I love pupusas from the top of my head to the soles of my feet. The delicious handcrafted dough and rich cheesy goodness combined with the tantalizing taste of loroco gets me every time. I have tried a lot of places in my fair city and the surrounding areas but Tamales Mi Lupita is definitely top tier. I don’t want anyone to come for me but I think they might even be my new favorite. ANDTHEY’RE $ 2EACH. Are you kidding me? I’ve been paying up to $ 3.50 at some places(Gringo prices?) for a decent queso con loroco experience.(You know who you are, muddatruckaz.) Oh, and their plantains are ONHIT. CASHONLY!

Horrible customer service! The cook Mariela screwed up my order and when I returned it, she refused to make another and would rather give me my money back than prepare my 3-year old daughter’s food, without chilis, the way I ordered it. I will not return. There are hundreds of other restaurants and this has nothing special, the way she treated me is unacceptable. Her co-worker told me she is always in a bad mood and treats customers poorly but doesn’t get reprimanded because customers don’t complain. She is giving this place a bad reputation.

Food: Everything is made just a little differently than most trucks in Oakland. The taco tortillas are larger and fired longer, the carne asada is cut thinner, and they have menu items that are associated with countries in the tropical regions of Latin America e.g. fired plantains, fried yucca. This is a good thing. No, these are great things. I didn’t have time to try everything, but when I do, I’ll be sure to post an update. Service: It wouldn’t be fair to judge service based on the prices we pay, but it was good nonetheless. Just a little tidbit, this is the one truck Anthony Bourdain was shown eating at, in Oakland, on «No Reservations.»

I finally decided to check this place out after seeing it on a episode of No Reservations with Anthony Bourdain. When i got there I couldn’t decided on what to order. So I figured I’ll just ordered one of their chicken pupusas, steak tacos, and the chicken tamales. I dug into the chicken pupusas with the pickled vegetables on top. My first bite it was heaven. Warm and soft with the crunch of the pickled veggies. I tried the steak tacos next. I wasn’t a big fan of the taco. Next I dived into the chicken tamales and it was just as good as the pupusas. I’ll definitely will be coming back again for more pupusas and El Salvadorian Tamales!

My favorite place for pupusas & tamales in the Bay Area. ___________________________________ PRICE: $ 5-$ 10/person. VALUE: Very inexpensive & well-flavored. AMBIANCE: Virtually no ambiance. The neighborhood is a bit dodgy so we usually get our food to-go. I’ve dined in the restaurant next door once, though.(Probably my last time.) CHANCEOFRETURNING: 100% ___________________________________ : [ THEFOOD ] : Here’s what we’ve tried: — MIXEDMEATPUPUSA — [4.5/5] — CHICKEN&CHEESEPUPUSA — [4/5] — SALVADOREANTAMALES: PORK — [4.5/5] — SALVADOREANTAMALES: CHICKEN — [3.5/5] — MEXICANTAMALES: PORK — [4.5/5] — MEXICANTAMALES: CHICKEN — [3.5/5] Salvadorean tamales are very different from Mexican tamales. Salvadorean ones are wrapped in banana leaves and are very moist. They remind me a lot of lontong from back home in Indonesia, which is a compressed«rice cake» in the form of a cylinder wrapped inside a banana leaf, sometimes stuffed with meat or vegetables. I personally really like both the Salvadorean tamales and Mexican ones, but my husband tends to prefer the traditional Mexican one. He thinks they’re just as good as his Mom’s. We bought quite a few tamales for Christmas(70% Mexican, 30% Salvadorean) and both my brother-in-law as well as my authentic Mexican food snob friend Roxy G liked them so much that she asked us to let her know to come over whenever we planned to buy more. She also raved about the masa. Personally, I find that the pork tamales are much tastier and more moist than the chicken. DONOTFORGETTHESALSAVERDE. In fact, don’t forget to ask for extra.(Get some of the red to try, though.) NOTE: I’ve never tried their tacos. The restaurant is right next door, and offers a wider selection of items. Andrew C mentioned in his review that the tacos are cheaper from the truck than from the restaurant — not sure as I’ve never tried to order them.

6.7.2012: Always awesome The pupusas are always awesome; my friend whose parents are of Salvadorean heritage introduced me to this little nugget. I took my brother who enjoyed the burrito.

Yummy pupusas! I’ve been looking for a really good pupuseria for awhile now. I ordered 2 because I got greedy. Honestly, one pupusa already made me full, but I still attempted to finish the 2nd one because it was oh so good. I also got to try yucca for the first time. They cooked it fresh. They warned us that we had to wait about 15 min for it to finish cooking when my friend ordered it. The food was worth the wait. I love how the people working in the food truck are super down to earth. Just go with what they suggest and you really can’t go wrong. The only thing about this food truck is the location. I would bring a friend, especially if it’s close to getting dark. You can’t be too safe these days. And why hog all this good food to yourself?

Just got the empanada de platano. Not sure what was inside — probably some type of cheese. It came with a little baggie of crema. The plantano part was delicious, the filling not so much. Will return to sample the tamales and pupusas.

Tamales mi lupitas isn’t just tamales, it’s also pupusas, tortas, burritos, tacos, enchiladas, etc. they’re not just mexican but a salvadorean also. in food stand next to pupusera eatery. sampling: salvodorean tamales, chicken, beef(2) –melt in you mouth masa, meat on top, not in middle of tamale maybe lard is used. something to make the masa so liquid –ruuny salsa provided in a baggy *aqua fresca, watermelon(1) bits of melon in drink, sugary, addictive frijoles refritos: –this food stand is so different, mexican and salvadorean fare. –they provide tamales for some carts on international blvd. –some msg tasted in tamales –very fast, efficient, courteous service –eventually will try other items including pupusa next door –easy parking a block away.

Love food trucks! The food here is so legit. Cheap, hot, and good ingredients. I came here a while back so I don’t remember the names of exactly what I ordered but I do know a ton of locals hit up this place so it is definitely a place worth checking out. Bonus: Anthony Bourdain from Travel Channel came here before! :)

I know this place is legit because I did not understand over half the menu! The pork tamale filling was tender and flavorful. The tamale skin/exterior was soft and melts in your mouth. Not dry at all. I’m not the expert on tamales but this one was goood. The other stuff was good too but I forget the names. :p

Come here to order the pupusas. I can recommend the chicharron or the queso from experience. The curtido is nicely pickled and may put a slight pucker on your face. I did not care for the salsa de tomate as it was more watery than I have experienced at other pupuserias, but the pupusa was fine without it. The truck(and that is where I ate, not the restaurant) is wedged in an alley between the Tamales Mi Lupitas restaurant and a grocery store. There may be parking on the street, or for you scallywags, you can try parking at the KFC next door. There is limited seating here, and by limited I mean one table and three chairs. Your best bet is taking a curbside seat on the street and eating it there, because if you take it to go, the pupusa will surely lose some of the freshness that makes it sooo good.

When going to a truck called«Tamales…» the smart thing to do is get the tamales(or pupusas) which everyone around me was doing. Since I’m not very smart(and I’d already eaten lunch), I went for a Carne Asada & Al Pastor Taco. As an aside, they need to redo the prices on their menu board; I could only make out about ½ of the markered prices most of which had been partially rubbed off. Tacos are $ 1.50(compared to $ 2 in the restaurant next door) and Pupusas & Tamales are $ 2(same as restaurant). The tacos come on double corn tortillas with a whole radish, wedge of lemon, and pickled jalapeño and carrot slice( ). The al pastor taco had almost twice as much meat as the carne asada one. The al pastor was chopped into big chunks which was pretty different from other taquerias in the area. Reasonably tasty, but meat a bit dry. The carne asada was moist, but bland even with the salsa on top. Pastor: 3.5 stars Carne Asada: 2 stars I’d say I’ll try the tamales or pupusas next time, but since you have to hunt a little for parking anyway, might as well hit up the brick & mortar Pupuseria Lupitas restaurant right next door.

I have been craving pupusas ever since the Eat Real Festival and on the night of Grey’s Anatomy Season 7 Season Première, Elaine H. and I decided to go on a «Pupusa Adventure.» WESHOULDHAVECALLEDINFIRST! We waited for a COOLMINUTE(even missing the first 7 minutes of Grey’s) before getting all of our food AND they skimped out on the tamales that we ordered! There were a lot of people who did the smart thing and called in the order, but it was our first time there, so we didn’t know better. Besides, it’s a truck, this is suppose to be FASTFOOD. While we waited, one of the lady gave us a receipt with their phone number on there. I didn’t know food trucks have phones? She said to call in next time so we wouldn’t have to wait so long. Food was made to order! You can see the pupusa lady slapping the tortilla and throwing it on the grill. Mmm. you get hungry just watching her! They gave us a lot of the pickled stuff and plenty of hot sauce. YUMMMMMAY. I came here THEN found out that this place was on No Reservations. Right on! I should go back and get my tamale! :)

I’d have to say, My girl Lupita makes one mean Tamale. I pass by this Tamales Truck almost every day and it never seems to catch my attention until now. Next door is my grocery store I visit often. It shares the same parking as Lupitas. The cheapest and freshes vegetable/fruits in the world. I woke up pretty early this morning, around 10-ish or so. Dont know about anyone else but thats real early for me. My stomach was talking out loud while I was checking my Gmail. I got mail and it was a new compliment from Unilocal. So I logged onto Unilocal and what do I see on the front page? Hot on Unilocal — –Tamales Mi Lupitas. I remembered the name but there was no picture to go with the title. So I brushed my teeth, threw on a fitted cap and headed out with the camera. I ordered the Special Poopoosauce(Pupusas), the Pork Tamales, and 2 Lengua Tacos. I never had Pupusas so I definitely had to get one. It was real good. Crispy yet soft inside with cheese and meat. Its basically a pancake with some good good inside. Came with pickled cabbage and some green sauce. All went real well together. The lengua tacos werent so good. Not so much. Id steer away from them next time cause that wasnt their specialty. Their specialty would be the Delicious Tamales. This isnt your ordinary style tamales, so have an open mind. This is the El Salvadorian Style. I never had this style. Im used to the dried ones wrapped tightly in corn husk. It came in a nice size portion, filler no doubt about it. The moistest pulled pork with some kind of meaty sauce. The masa was not your typical dried style. It was soft and fluffy which made it very easy to eat. I could’ve downed a couple more of these bad boys but I was stuffed. Not sure if the lady that took and made my order was Lupita but she was real nice and helpful. Basically, This is the good stuff. If your ever in the area, stop by and have a taste. You wont regret it. Lupita Lupita Muy Bonita. note: Also, Be on the look out for Anthony Bourdain from the Travel Channel. Tamales Mi Lupita was on one of the episodes, San Francisco Show. Oakland Taco Trucks !! The Best Around !!
