The Beer Shed At the Dock

I had seen this place before and finally made it in to see the selection of beers and watch some football. The spot is between a wine tasting room and another small brewery at the Docks nearby Jack London Square. It’s an semi-​open air spot with a couple long tables and a small amount of beers on tap. I was hoping for a huge selection and different variety, but was pretty disappointed. Their focus was bitter beers and pilsners, and though they can be good, I was hoping for some Belgians and bocks as well. I also noticed their beer tap system doesn’t pour at temperature. Lots of beer went down the drain because it came out as foam.
The food here is pretty tasty though. The burgers are rather good and the fries are fresh and yummy.
Overall, the place is cool, but I was hoping for more.

Only one Linden beer on tap. If it’s the day time, do yourself a favor and just get some fresh, delicious beer straight from Linden. It’s outside and right next to this place.

Came in to watch a Warriors game on a Sunday. Don’t think the restaurant next door is normally open on Sundays. So there was also a super limited menu for dinner. We all got some beer first. They had a bunch on tap and a selection of bottles too. It was all pretty unique or local beers too. No waiter service really. You order everything at the bar. Drinks are poured right there and food is brought out later. I had the St. Archer white ale on tap and the temple garden yuzu beer in a bottle. Both were really nice beers and light, like I like my beer. For food, we tried three out of the only four options — arugula kale salad, buttermilk brined fried chicken and the buttermilk panna cotta. The salad was simple but really great with the light vinaigrette and fresh cut fruits in it. The fried chicken was great — crispy and seasoned well. The dish came with a drumstick and thigh piece. Also in the bowl, there was a light slaw, pickle and honey butter biscuit (my fav). A nice rounded meal. For dessert, there was a panna cotta. The panna cotta part was slightly sweet and had good texture but I think the little bits of fig and pistachios on top didn’t add too much flavor to it.
It is really is a shed. Décor is a lot of shed-​like things. And the back wall is open, out into a small patio area. Both the food and beer was great. I would love to come back when they have the full menu.

Great drink selection. Wouldn’t let me order the burger other than medium-​rare and called their kitchen ‘purists’. Will not come back again.

Ate here for the first time recently and really enjoyed the small dishes! The menu changes frequently, so if you go back again you’ll be able to try new things! The cucumber sunomono was great! The creaminess of the avocado really worked well with the crunchiness of the cucumber. Between the two of us, we had 5 of the small dishes. We sat at the bar and at first I was hesitant because I wanted a table but it was a wonderful experience. The service was GREAT! Everyone is super friendly and nice! They knew the menu very well and could talk about all of the dishes with ease. It was a hopping place on a Friday night and a little difficult to find parking but I will definitely be returning!

I enjoy me some Linden St beer. The Burning Oak Black Lager is often a go to when dining out, if I see it on the menu. I can’t however say that I’m a fan of The Beer Shed at the Dock.
It’s a small offshoot of The Dock, the restaurant next door which of course is a part of the Linden brewery complex. Unfortunately the brewery is only open to customers on weekends. Needing a pregame beer before dinner in Jack London Square, we stopped on in at the shed.
I like the seating arrangement of several rows of tables inside, along with outdoor patio seating. Since it’s West Oakland, you’re away from the hustle and bustle crowds which is nice.
If I knew that the Beer Shed was only serving one type of Linden beer on tap, I would have just went to Beer Revolution instead. It wasn’t even my Burning Oak either. I instead opted for a Faction IPA and a Cellarmaker.
The Faction IPA was outstanding. But then again, I would rather just head to Alameda to enjoy it at their brewery instead, along with all their other beers that they brew. If I wanted more of the Cellarmaker, I would’ve went to SF. I believe in going to the source for your beer. It’s cool to have guest taps but the majority of the taps should be occupied by your own beer. Maybe that’s just me.
Service was ho hum. Dude grabbed my glass from the table after I was finished but didn’t bother asking if I would like a another one. I had to walk all of 6 feet to the bar to order another round. Not a big deal, but in the customer service game, it’s the little things that sets places apart from the pack.
Would I come here again? Probably not. I would just wait to the weekend when the brewery proper is open in order to sample all of Linden st’s offerings.

Good beer, yummy food and a great open space. Wait staff friendly, great vibe a good place to hang out and chill.

It’s a little hard to tell where to write a review here, dock or beer shed; my main beef is with the food, and I ordered it at the Beer Shed, so they get the flak.
Disappointingly small portions of unremarkable food. Po’ boy twins are two fish sliders for $ 13; I’m not sure I’ve ever spent $ 6.50 on a slider before (compare, e.g., Phil’s Sliders in Berkeley, $ 2.75 per slider). No sides or garnishes other than two plastic packets of hot sauce. The «crispy potatoes» were six small potatoes with a few salmon roe and a dab of cream cheese, $ 12, or two dollars per potato. The beef tongue came with a few bits of broccolini, but again not really $ 14 worth of food. If the beef tongue and the potatoes were combined, it would justify the price of one of them.
If you want to have a bougie tiny-​food nouvelle cuisine joint where two people can spend $ 42 on food and still feel like they need an entrée, great, but don’t call it «The Beer Shed». If you have a place called «The Beer Shed» you need to have reasonably priced bar food. I think part of my disappointment is that I came here expecting something along the lines of the garage-​brewery bootstrapped tone set in the past by Linden Street Brewery — it’s the beer restaurant built directly adjacent, so that seems like a resaonable assumption. Instead I got a distinct «our investors spent a lot of money buidling this place out and we need to recoup the investment with high prices» feeling.
The beer selection was well-​selected, and, oddly, reasonably priced. So if you’re coming for beer only, it’s fine. But if you’re not wealthy, pre-​eat.
Also, separate complaint: no bike parking, other than to a handicapped-​access ramp’s railing, which is un-​good for both the bicyclists and those with disabilities.

Place is super chill. Went with a couple of friend who work in the industry. Clean, open environment… perfect way to spend a weekend.

The Beer Shed at the Dock… ahhhhhh, just writing that gets me thirsty. I love this little place and so does my wife and our friends. While the beer selection isnt huge, it is generally very eclectic and good. The prices are fair; the vibe very mellow, and here is the best part, the staff is absolutely some of the best you are going to find. The bartenders and the owner are so damn chill and friendly you just can’t help wanting to go back and hang out with them.
Parking at the shed is pretty easy and I have yet to have a problem getting a seat. We go often on Fridays after work. See you there!

Order a bunch of food, share it with friends, drink until your heart’s content.
Their staff is fun & friendly and super-​knowledgeable about their menu and tap-​list. They can wax-​poetics about beer making/​flavor pairing of their food and drinks.
Their small-​plates are awesome for sharing, and it’s even encouraged by their staff. Based on what you order, they time it out well so you feel like your food is served in multi-​courses, and they make the best recommendations for beer/​cocktails to go with your food & desserts.
Great place for groups, and large communal tables mean that you’ll get a chance to make new friends.

Really spectacular place to spend a lazy afternoon.
Get here early and you can chat with the owner in the sun on their outdoor deck.
Great snacks from the kitchen next door too.

Very smart of them to have a staging ground for the restaurant itself. Go in, get some drinks, cavort and socialize. We sat at one of the high communal tables while waiting for dinner. They have a small outside patio too for the warmer nights. It’s small and can get really packed but it’s a positive vibe. The Fish House Punch is a particularly tasty beverage to be enjoyed here if you can find it on special

Love this spot. It’s just too bad that the past three months I thought this WAS linden st brewing so when I looked it up and saw that the brewery closed at 5 I was completely wrong. I could have had that many more beers in my belly !!!

My super hip friend P (been going to BM straight for the last 15 years, wears his red jeans just so, grew his beard before others did, being unapologetically Swedish, sported the most stylish hats one could find in SF and has been brewing beer for sometime now) had always told me that the beer scene in Oakland has gone very mainstream but is still underrated. He had been taking the ferry from Embarcadero to Jack London in search of the best bier one could find for years now. When I came to this joint, all I could think of was I really need to get him out here, because maybe for once I could impress him with my bier spotting skills. This place was amazing. Even more so because the way they set up the shop. Communal tables, outdoor seating area, incredible selection of wine as well and perfectly quality bar food. Everything about this place screams chill. In every possible way it tells people that no matter how crazy remote the location is, if you want good beer and bar food, come here. Parking is aplenty and beer on the tab advertises locally brewed.
I did not know that the manager came from Trappist, another bier lover’s haven in downtown Oakland, which I used to go on occasion to meet some friends.
As Oakland finds its own food and drink rhythm, I think such a set up could become a trend for other restauranteurs. While waiting for the table next door, drink, snack and catch up with your friends. Brilliant idea, perfected executed. And reminded me of Fore Street set up in Portland, Maine or that adjacent bar to Central Kitchen, the name escapes me at the moment. I’m sensing a new trend. Chefs who are successful do not just open one restaurant on the same premise, they open two. While at it, why stop at two when you could do three?
Waiting for P to return from BM. I am going to (hopefully) impress him this time with this find. Fingers crossed that he’s not been here before! Now I must study up on the local brew names!

I love beer. That being said, I love the person serving me beer to be more knowledgeable about it than I. Adam worked the magic with this little gem of a place! The «Linden Street» complex is only getting more awesome. Ray, the manager who used to rock the Trappist in Old Oakland, is now running the Beer Shed at Linden. This man loves his beer! Samples aren’t frowned on like they can be at other places, and I learn little beer factoids every time I visit. What I love is being there when they try something new, but you never know when that’s going to happen. Beer is love!
Anyway, sunset is my favorite time of day to come here. It isn’t huge, but there are several long tables and some outside seating. Bring some friends, order some appetizers and enjoy the atmosphere. They have sours and even a rice beer on occasion. I am a fan!

Awesome little place. Had trouble finding it initially, its just past the restaurant before you turn the corner to head towards Linden St Brewery.

While waiting to be seated for dinner at The Dock, the hostess recommended we visit The Beer Shed. She took my number and said she’d call me when our table was ready (love that!) Being a bit of a beer dummy, I was offered a couple tastes before I made my decision. I had myself a tasty California Kolsch and man were those pickles yummmmmy! With both indoor and outdoor ample seating, this is a nice place to hang out before dinner, or just to unwind!

The Linden Street complex just keeps getting better, and if you’re confused about where The Dock ends and the Beer Shed at The Dock begins, I feel ya. The line is very blurry. To put it simply: The Beer Shed is for drinks & snacks while you wait for more drinks & dinner at The Dock. Though, the latter is not obligatory.
The space is awesome, and much bigger than it’s «shed» title implies. There’s a big indoor space with communal bar tables and tons of sunlight. Plus, a big patio with colorful bar stools and high tops (and happy sunbathing hipsters galore).
Totally love this addition to Linden Street, making it more of a destination than ever before. We ordered beers, rum cocktails (with housemade tonic), and some ridiculously tasty caesar popcorn ($ 5)
We then moved next door for dinner at The Dock, which was also incredible, but I’ll likely be spending more time at the less pricey and more casual Shed. Happy vibes all around.

Cool new venue that’s part of the Linden Street Brewery complex (in addition to being an annex of the new Dock restaurant next door) but serves a variety of California craft brews in addition to Linden, such as Faction, HenHouse, Magnolia, and Drake’s.
The space has a rustic feel to it, with long wooden communal benches, plus layout and décor that accentuates the underlying brick warehouse building. The industrial aesthetic extends to the intimate patio, which can hold about 15 people and offers views of the neighboring Port of Oakland and rail yards.
Service is friendly and approachable, and the casual, unhurried, accessible, and unpretentious vibe of the place is uniquely Oakland. A welcome addition to the greater Port /​Jack London Square /​West Oakland area.
