The Red Door Catering

We worked with Reign and The Red Door Catering for our wedding at the Brazil Room in October. We did not have a wedding planner, although I do work in events and entertainment, and TRD really went above and beyond to help us organize our special day. From menu and décor suggestions to assisting us with day of organization, to giving advice on how to deal with certain unexpected concerns, Reign and her team really made our wedding spectacular!
I had a great feeling about working with them dr the beginning and my intuition was right– they were worth every cent. Even my mom who dreaded every moment of the planning process was over the moon delighted with the outcome. Thank you Reign and crew — we love you!

The Red Door catered our wedding this September. Generally the bride and groom are so busy they forget to eat. Trust me when I say I did not miss one bite of my meal at our wedding. From the initial meeting through the planning and execution Reign the owner was a pleasure to work with. This is a small company and they are very in demand so you might have trouble even booking them for your event – however if you are successful to get them on your calendar – you are in for a fantastic ride. I slept very easily in the weeks leading up to my wedding knowing the food, wine and all related dining items would go off seamlessly – and they did! Everyone at our wedding loved their meal. I also must add that Reign is just a genuinely awesome person. She is very calm – key during wedding planning! Her executive chef is a pro who takes pride in his work (Steve). I wish I could get married a second time so I could eat her food again. Truly this was the best decision I made for our wedding.

Unfortunately, I came by this event at a funeral. Five stars for presentation and taste. Everything was served at the correct temperature. If and when I need catering, these people will be it! Almost forgot to give kudos to their serving staff.

Our professional event was catered by The Red Door and I simply cannot recommend this company.
After what appeared to be a seamless conversation with the owner about the event, things fell apart as details were forgotten or mistaken. Initially, I was told that it would be no problem to make adjustments within a reasonable time frame. However, when I tried to drop the count (as is usually expected based upon RSVP), I was told that the company does not cater events less than $ 2,500. The website indicates small and large catered events (which would mean a $ 250.00 meal per person for 10 people if hosting a small group).
Also, the event was a daytime lunch event and I indicated a full menu would not be necessary. The menu I initially received in the proposal was based on another event and I specifically requested that some items be removed. A revised menu was never provided and, when it was brought to the attention of the owner, she could not recall the discussion. My recollection was based on my notes as I was working with several vendors.
The owner refused to provide a tasting which is highly unusual for any catered event.
Overall, based on the lack of attentiveness to detail, customer service and administrative process, I would suggest seeking out another caterer.

We stumbled across ‘The Red Door’ completely by chance, and thank goodness we did! We recently had our wedding at the Brazilian Room, and were issued with a long list of caterers. We began our hunt for the perfect caterer based on three things: Price, Website, Unilocal reviews. It was hard in the sea of options to find anything that stood out based on these factors — until we found The Red Door.
The way it happened is that we randomly we headed up the Brazilian Room to see the space long after we had booked the venue. We had one caterer in mind that had awesome review that was going to be there that night, so we figured we would kill two birds with one stone and probably select our caterer. For those that have seen the Brazilian Room, you know that it has a simple rustic beauty, which is part of the charm. The caterer which will stay unnamed that we assumed would be amazing, looked more placed to be in a 1980’s hotel banquet room, serving 90 year old grandmother tea and cake… not cool, and not our style.
At the back of the room, was a smiling owner/​chef (Reign Free) serving a simple, tasty butternut squash soup and crostini. It sung, and it was clear that Reign ‘got’ the style that suited the room, and ultimately suited us.
To cut to the chase now — the food is simply amazing. It just so happens that my husband to be and myself are vegetarians, and we wanted a vegetarian meal. Reign’s food (even in a buffet setting) rivals any top San Francisco restaurant. I personally never enjoy wedding food (and as a vegetarian can never normally eat any of it either) but The Red Door delivered 100% taste and satisfaction.
Now meat eaters, do not fear. I loved our tasting with The Red Door so much, that I was confident to introduce my boss to them. I work for a top fashion house, that has extremely high standards. If my French boss hires them to cater private dinners in her home, trust me… that is worth a thousand words!
Other details I should mention, the buffet lines were fast (this was a fear of mine), the food was plentiful (there was nothing left at the end, but everyone went back for seconds) the presentation of the food was beautiful, and Reign, Mia and all the staff went ABOVE an BEYOND to make our day a success for us eg (prepared apps and champagne for us to have it private, plated our meals for us first, very incredibly attentive to us for the evening, went out of their way with their time to ensure that every aspect of our day was a success) … to the extent, that one of the staff members actually drove several of the last people to leave home WAY out of her way went they could not get a taxi.
The staff of The Red Door are salt of the earth people, with excellent food, and wonderful service.
I usually review very constructively and like to point out pros and cons — but there are no cons to share! Hire them for your next event, whether it be a lunch, dinner or celebration!

I was neurotically over-​planning every detail of our wedding and Mia and Reign took it all in stride with a smile on their faces. We had sampled a couple of different caterers and these guys really stood out from their personable manner to the awesome «way better than wedding fare» food to the beautiful aesthetic with which they set up their buffet, place settings, etc.
Mia especially took care of us, and took time to meet with us before the wedding to make sure she had everything under control, to the extent of acting as coordinator for my set up crew of friends on the day-​of. They even set aside a plate of food for us when they realized that we’d barely had time to eat.
I would absolutely recommend them!

Wow, how amazing is Reign Free. She was so helpful and had a great presentation of food at the event. Everything went so smoothly and people were very impressed with the choice of foods she had.

Reign Free at The Red Door Catering is truly an amazing and generous person to work with. We used her services to cater the Women’s Daytime Drop in Center’s 25^th anniversary fundraiser and we were all impressed with the delicious food, the presentation, and the extra care of service that we experienced in making this our best fundraiser ever. My firm recently had a holiday party at the Chabot Space and Science center and The Red Door is one of their preferred vendors. My coworker and I researched the other caterers but we found TRD to be the best.
Reign was a pleasure to work with, she’s very personable and she really went above and beyond to make sure we were happy.
We worked with her to create our holiday party menu, which was a perfect blend of yummy and healthy. I was so impressed that she really listened to our needs and wants and she was able to deliver such great food.
Reign and her staff are extremely organized, they were on top of everything so our event went smooth and we didn’t have to worry about a thing!

Reign and her team hosted our wedding luncheon at Brazilian Room, Tilden Park, Berkeley. She listened carefully, worked with us on budget, and prepared a tasting and tasty menu for us. On our wedding day, all the guests enjoyed what she and her team prepared for us from the cocktails and presentation of food to their services and scrumptious lunch with healthy ingredients. ;-)
Reign, the owner of The Red Door Catering, is amazing. She is full of positive energy, experienced, innovative, and helpful. Definitely, I would call her again for hosting any parties. She understands your needs and knows what she is doing.

I have eaten more than my fair share of bad banquet food: tasteless meat covered in some kind of unidentifiable sauce, soggy vegetables swimming in oil, and sorry salads consisting of iceberg lettuce and unripe cherry tomatoes. In fact, I’ve eaten so much of it that usually when I hear that lunch or dinner will be provided I just bring my own food.
Not this time! I went to an event over the weekend and The Red Door catered several meals and they were all really, really good. I am the world’s pickiest eater and I made an unprecedented trip back for seconds. The salads were interesting, I loved the red beans and rice, and people raved about the corn bread, calling it «the best thing ever.»
The next time I have too many people to cook for I know exactly who to call.

This full-​service catering company handled my organization’s holiday party. They did a great job — the meatballs and chocolate fondues were big hits. Everything was laid out well and the staff took care of everything nicely.
Unfortunately I only went and ate and didn’t handle the bill so I don’t know any pricing info, but they do have a website you can check out and contact them directly.
