The Youthful Tooth – Kids

I unfortunately agree with all the terrible reviews. This is a baby dental factory. I was actually yelled at by a dentist when I tried to be close to my daughter who they insisted on giving laughing gas to during a filling. She was calm, but I walked out of there pissed off and let staff know about it. Is this the kind of care you have to expose your children to because you have Medi-​Cal?

ZERO STARS this place is dirty and there so rude. its not worth the wait nor do they know what there doing. i got attitude from 3 workers they treat you like garbage its unbelievable infront of my kids. Do not take your kids there do not waste your time. There are WAY better children’s dentists in oakland and in the bay area that know what there doing and aren’t disrespectful. I am still in shock by the way they treated me. Beware!

This place can be a bit of a madhouse. Lots of crying children and undisciplined kids blocking the walkways. Aside from that. I must say… though it’s a bit of a cattle house.. it is the only dental office my son is not afraid of. He has had cavities for the first time in his life recently (he’s 10yrs old)…And has come out tear-​free after each of his visits. Previous to coming to Youthful Tooth… he would scream bloody murder if the dentist so much as looked at his teeth.
I can say… the service provided… almost negates the animal house feeling in the waiting room. The wait can be excessive at times… but really… how can they anticipate how long each individual child will need. based on their fear or age? I would give them 5 stars for the actual services… but because of the excessive wait time. it makes it difficult to plan anything else for the afternoon after an appt… I will give them 3 and a half stars.

This place is awful, I only came here because they accept Medi-​Cal. First thing I noticed that most of the parents just sent their kids inside without them personally being there. So I asked a lady sitting nearby why she doesn’t go inside but she said she’s fine waiting in the waiting room. Since I’m not o.k. with that approach, I went and asked for me to come in with my kids so I went in.
After I walked in, I notice a huge sign saying that digital recording is not permitted, that is very suspicious why would someone have that in their dentist office, I haven’t seen that in any other dentist offices I went before. Very strange, it makes me feel like they’re doing something they’re not supposed to. They took x-​rays and did the cleaning and they called me to the side telling me that my 7-​year old son has 2 cavities and that I need to schedule another appointment to take care of that. I did schedule an appointment for next time to come but my Medi-​Cal got cancelled so I cancelled that appointment at that time. Since I didn’t like that place anyway, I was looking for a new dentist, after several months I found a very nice family dentist practice in Alameda, they took x-​ray of my 7year old son and told me he had no cavities at all. So obviously The Youthful Tooth gives out wrong diagnoses, parents not aware of them lying trust those people and have them proceed with the procedure charging the insurance or them and so on. The patients end up having things done on their teeth that are unnecessary.
PARENTS, WAKE UP, PLEASE FOR THE SAKE OF YOUR CHILDREN, DON’T BLINDLY BELIEVE WHAT THE PEOPLE WHO WORK HERE TELL YOU, go and get another opinion.
For sure, I will never come back here.

Zero stars if possible. I’ve had to bring my son here a couple times over the last 4 years, because at the time it was the only place locally that (accepted medi-​cal) and did full sedation for kids. Over 4 years, the staff has been consistently rude and unhelpful. Thankfully we only had to go here for procedures that required sedation, not regular checkups. After an hour (MINIMUM) of waiting they call your name, take your kid (basically since parents aren’t allowed back) and then you wait however long until your kid comes running out of another door entirely. No explanation no instruction. I stood in line for 10 minutes to ask if that was seriously IT and a dental assistant calls our name from another door. 10 minutes after sending my kid out with no instruction! She pulls us to a cubicle and tells me THEIR dentist found 3 more cavities than his regular dentist-​so were gna have to schedule multiple appts but they can’t SEDATE him because he’s too old/​weight etc. but they will use ‘laughing gas’. I’m like fine. so I talk the kid up all week and explain its gna be different but he won’t be in any pain etc. The last appt yesterday prompted my review today. We go in and they take him back there and give him a plain old local anesthetic. Shot to the gums just like his normal dentist could have done. But don’t tell me this until AFTER the procedure. I’m beyond pissed. My poor kid is just coming around to seeing the dentist, just stopped screaming his head off at every checkup-​and they made me a liar.
Side notes; the parking lot of this office is tiny and shared with a construction company that has a bunch of company vehicles. Be there an hour early if you don’t wanna park at the walmart across the street and walk over. Also-​the waiting room is small and ALWAYS PACKED.
They suck. Take my word for it.
Ps/​every single time I’ve had to call the office to schedule the receptionist would give me shit about my son being ‘too old for this’. He’s 6. Bite me.

I have never personally encountered a problem here. It’s cool as far as dentist offices go. I just wish they’d brighten up the lobby. Its so drab and dark. Plus its narrow and small. The front staff can be kinda drab as well but I believe they just adapt to their atmosphere. They just aren’t overly friendly. I think the patients can be a bigger problem than anything. Kids running wild (sometimes), parents holding conversations as if kids aren’t around, etc.

Regarding the location in Oakland: This place is horrible!!! Creates bad experiences for kids… and its always a thousand ppl in there!!! It gets no stars from me, but because I have to it gets 1 *super hard eye roll*

My computer is acting up, so let me summarize it in one thing, you picture the rest.
After waiting for 1hr and a half, we were called for x-​rays, when we came in, the D.A. that called us walked us to a room, knocked on the door, opened the door to fast, and behind the door was the Dentist laying down with his hands behind his head very comfortably and in the room with him 3 other members of the staff. It was very awkward and unprofessional.

I am sooooo disappointed with this place. The staff are not friendly and it’s unacceptable!!! They have been waiting and playing with my kids teeth for years. I am LEAVING as a family of 6. Never coming back!!!

I’m looking into finding a new dentist for my child, every-​time we come here there’s a different dentist working on my child, how can he get to know them & feel comfortable that way. I must add they can be a bit rude sometimes as well.

I’m writing a review not on how well the dental work was but more of the environment and the service.
I walked in for the first time and I thought I was in the welfare line. It was so packed. Tons of kids crying, parents looking restless. Even overheard a convo with the words «Child Protective Services, Snort, Heroin, Police» not in that order. It was ghetto in there.
They didn’t see me until 2 hours later after my appt time. My childs procedure took 30 minutes only. They left my baby with nasty bloody gauze in her mouth, it was so horrific.

Absolutely horrible! I tooth my 3 year old son here for a regular check up/​cleaning. I chose them b/​c I went there as a youngin’ and I really liked it. I remembered them being very friendly and fun. They were mean to my baby who did nothing wrong and who was doing very well for a child his age. He didn’t even cry or fight. He was a little scared to lay on the chair but had they taken the time to talk him through it he would have been perfectly fine. They took a few x-​rays, did a 10 second check up, and no cleaning. Our appointment was at 3:00PM and we weren’t seen until 4:30PM! The waiting room was annoying. There were like a thousand kids fighting over 2 toys. The parents weren’t controlling their kids who should have known better than to behave like that in the 1^st place. This trip was definitely a waste of time. The only positive thing was that Walmart is across the street so I bought a cute t shirt for myself and some snacks for my son. LOL.
OMG…I almost forgot! They didn’t even give my son a toothbrush or toothpaste or even floss! What kinda dental office was this!!! The funny thing is that they tried to schedule an appointment 6 months ahead of time but I just laughed and told them that there was no way in hell that we would ever come back.

Absolutely DO NOT recommend! They dissuade parents from being in the treatment room with their children because of the poor care they provide. My son went in for a crown and they did not give him enough pain med — before we arrived home, the little amount of pain meds he received had worn off and he was in tears! I called to speak to the office manager and she did a song and dance. I called bullshit on her! I plan on contacting my insurance to ensure their payment is withheld or greatly reduced. I also plan on filing a complaint with the licensing board!
