been coming here ever since i was tiny. He’s very knowledgeable in what he does and very nice! he has another office in san francisco. I highly recommend him for anyone that needs glasses or contacts or eye exams!

I’ve been visiting Dr. Tong since I was a wee lad. He is an utmost professional and truly cares for his patient’s well being both financially and optometristically. If and when Dr. Tong retires — and that’s a big if the times I’ve asked him about this — I will absolutely get laser surgery because I don’t want anyone else getting near my eyes! Highly recommended.

Ditto on all the good remarks. Dr. Tong is kind and personable but also no-​nonsense optometrist who takes good care of his customers. He has total expertise and gives very reasonable rates. I am a non-​Chinese speaker who goes to Chinatown ito his office n Oakland on Mondays, Wednesdays, or Fridays when I need help with glasses.

A very good, personable optometrist with very reasonable rates. As of this writing (2010) a contact lens exam without fitting is $ 60. I imagine some might be put off by his slightly funky woodgrain/​mustard colored 1970’s office, but those same people probably wouldn’t venture into Chinatown in the first place.

I’ve been coming here since I was a kid. He’s very personable, warm, kind and has his a subtle humor about him. He’s like an uncle you get to see once a year. You can give updates about your life, ask how he’s doing, tell him what you’re doing in school and he’ll patiently listen and nod.
When my sisters and I were younger, we’d copy how he does «1 better or 2, 2 better or 3» at home pretending to be Optometrists like him. If you talk to him about applying to professional school, he has good advice, insight into the process, warns you of obstacles and gives you his honest opinion.
His office has gone through some remodeling which is good because it makes the place more modern and quite pleasant however it does not balance out the downgrade in service at the front desk. Since this posting is purely about him and not his new secretary I won’t take off any stars.
