So I finally got to try this place after coming across it a few times here on Unilocal.I ordered a Torta Ahogada and 2 Tacos Dorados. The Torta I got de carnitas and the tacos I got papa(potato) and carnitas. I ordered to go and I like how they did not put the sauce over my Torta or taco dorado to make them soggy before I got back to work to eat it them. One thing I will say that the sauce that goes over the Torta is pretty spicy. I wish I would have asked before if it was spicy because I mean I love chile but man this sauce was a little much for me even made by nose run lol but in a good way. The sauce that goes over the tacos is more of a tomato sauce not spicy at all. The Torta and taco were very delicious. I would go back again but this time maybe ask if the Torta sauce can be a little milder.

Sis and I decided to give these a try and let me warn you the sauce on the torta Ahogada is really spicy so just warning u before you go drenching your torta aha but aside from my tongue burning it was really good. The taco dorado with potatoes and carnitas was really good as well. I would be back and now I know how much salsa to add. Give them a try.

I had been here before many times and I used to Love it, however I went on 11/10/2015 and it was not the same. I have to agree with one of the reviews below the bread for the torta was super hard. I don’t mind the sourness but it was like really really hard. I don’t know what it is but I did not enjoy it as much and the sauce was very cold. Will I be back? Not unless I’m craving hard bread with sauce.

Siempre que ordenó para llevar nunca te ponen lo que nesesitas simpre faltan cosas. Y las meseras son medias groseras. Los frijoles de los tacos casi siempre están quemados, y el lugar nesesita limpiarse.

I remember coming here years ago and thought the place was amazing and very much authentic. i came here a few days ago and I cannot lie, I was extremely disappointed. The tort as ahogadas, were such a let down. The salsa on the tort as was cold, and the salsa had very little flavor. I strongly believe the bread is WRONG for this sandwich. It has a sourdough like flavor to it so off putting. It gives it a different taste and it was so hard almost stale(I actually think it was). I also ordered the tacos dorados. Once again the food the cold, a bit of warmth would make a world of a difference. They also got my order wrong, I order tacos dorados de frijol and somehow they got potato. The ladies serving the food also seemed to be annoyed at my questions. Customer serving requires personality and all I saw on their face was annoyance. I gave it 2 stars due to my past memory of what it was and that I would probably order more tacos(no torta unless the bread is changed) and how they would be warm.

I really liked the food here. Very tasty and cheap. I had a Torta Ahogada(with pork). My wife had the beef version. Washed down with a couple of coronas. The kids had tacos and enchiladas. Everyone enjoyed their lunch. I wish I’d taken a picture.

I searched«tortas» on Unilocal and found this spot has been in the neighborhood for quite some time, just hadn’t noticed it. Ha! I’m NOT going to call it a hole in the wall… but then now I’m at a loss for words, and it is what it is. I ordered 2 spicy and the rest were non-heat tortas haogadas(never had) and tacos de papa to-go. To my surprise the attendant quickly packed my pre– prepped food from a warmer behind her and sent us on our way. She explained that everything was in the kit she packaged for us to put together at home. I doubted my food would be fresh, and my tacos crispy, since they were pre-cooked. Once home, we unwrapped the feast. After putting my torta in a bowl, I worried because it looked a bit flat and sad sitting there. I drenched it in spicy sauce.(This didn’t come with instructions), and topped it with the finely chopped cabbage and pickled onions provided. After a couple of minutes I grabbed a fork and attacked my «torta haogada» which means drowned Mexican sandwich(I made sure it was). By this time the sandwich had absorbed the sauce and was plump. My mouth ignited into a fiery ball of flavor immediately. I consider myself advanced in the Chile heat intake department, but this was ridiculous, yet delicious. Next time I’ll do ¾ of the spicy and 1 of the none-spicy sauce? I was only able to consume half the torta before getting tearied eyed… knowing it was time to slowly back off, and give my mouth, nose, and throat a rest. So I moved on to the tacos. The tacos de papa were crunchy and yummy. Topped these with the provided toppings and sour cream. I will soon be back for more.

For those who doesn’t know the Tortas history is originally form Guadalajara in the Jalisco state, off course this is my pace to go as I’m a Tapatio living the dream, this Tortas are 80% close to the one a you can munch in Guadalajara city why only 80% you’d might ask, well if they can have the salty birote(kind like sourdough roll) that will be awesome also it need to put some. Retried beans on the inside bottom part of the roll then you’ll have a 100% replica of the torta Ahogadas, next time you’re there try the jericallas another typical dessert from my hometown!!!

We come in from San Jose where there is a decent place that does Tacos Ahogados. However, the difference is that this place has pickled onions and cabbage, which makes all the difference. Yeah, the neighborhood around this place is seedy, but if you are prepared for that, you’ll enjoy the tacos. Service is also good and the servers are really pleasant.

Hands down the best and most authentic Tortas Ahogadas outside of Guadalajara. They nailed it with the bread which is where most other places fail. Tacos Dorados de papa and frijol, also great. Very clean place with an open kitchen. While service to take your order is fast and food comes quickly the service gets a little sparse after hence the 3 stars. Don’t expect a full service restaurant but it is clean and people are friendly.

After an extensive search for tortas ahogadas I finally made it to the place everyone has told me to go to, Mi Barrio in Oakland. Sure enough, this small place has the most amazing tortas ahogahas I have had in the US. The salsa used to dip the tortas is on point. The fresh oregano and tomatoes is blended to perfection. These tortas as also known to be spicy, here they give you the spicy salsa on the side, so you get to control the spiciness of the dish. They also have something called lonches, those are pulled pork marinated meat with lettuce, tomatoes, jalapeños, and sour cream. I had a bite of that too very good. Prices are extremely reasonable. No parking, so you have to park on the street. Service is friendly. Great place for a little taste of Guadalajara, Mexico! We were told that on weekends the line goes out the door, we went right after New Years and it was pretty slow.

I’ve had a few torta ahogadas before but this one was different, the bread was much tougher which after getting soggy gave it a good variety of textures making for a pretty interesting meal. My friend and I also got a fried potato and meat taco each which, while delicious, was overkill. You probably should just get tacos or a sandwich. In my stubbornness I had both and it probably wasn’t like healthy or something.

After hearing the name, I wasn’t sure what to expect. I’ve had tortas before but these don’t compare, this torta set a new standard. The tacos were also amazing. I highly recommend this place.

One of the best spots for Tortas Ahoghadas and salsa picosa(spicy). This little janky looking spot offers some really good above average Mexican food. Simple menu with items that most places Americanize too much to even taste decent but here they actually do the damn thang! «Mi Barrio» makes it all even the bread the torta is on. Tortas Ahogadas are stuffed with your choice of meat, beans, and cheese. The delicious torta comes out drenched in a thick freshly made spicy sauce along with sliced onions that marinated in vinegar, and chopped cabbage. These are exactly like the ones in Guadalajara, spicy as hell! These make your lips burn, and your michelada comes in handy. Every bite is full of so much taste and the perfect texture combination. I also have ordered the sopes de papa(potato sopes) which are just as amazing. They make the sope from scratch, you wont be getting anything frozen it’s fresh masa molded into your sope. The sope comes with tasty refried beans smothered all over topped with the perfectly seasoned papas and of course cabbage and a tomato based sauce. Everything here is very very very good. No joke whether you love yourself some carnitas and cueritos or your an addict for the spice or you just want another tasty Michelada this is your joint. Cheap and tasty, plus perfected spiciness equals that’s whats up. They take cards and cash, and you can even call your order in to go. They are only open from 9am to 6pm so get your«hella craving Mexican food» ass over there!
