Walrus

Hidden in the Temescal Valley, I was intrigued with their unique gifts. I love upcycled and repurposed items and Walrus has all that and more!!! The have workshops for people who want to learn how to make things.

I was on Walrus pretty much after Wendy opened the shop. Small and well curated, there were new and delightful things every week, vintage, homemade, and things you never thought of needing, all aesthetically pleasing. I always bought something. Couldn’t help it! Then I commissioned some pillows. Quick and perfect. Then I commissioned cushions for all my outdoor furniture. Quick, perfect, reasonable, AWESOME! The shop expanded its space. More great things!
A forever client…

We asked Wendy to transform our kitchen island into a bathroom vanity and the result is truly great. She resized it, taking it apart piece by piece, cut it to size, re-​assembled, and then sanded and applied a marine varnish. She was super communicative throughout the process and easy to work with. The cost came in to her estimate and she completed it in the timeline that she had promised. Can’t ask for more, and we’ll be back!

Walrus — the name called to us. We had time to kill and we needed a house-​warming gift. We walked into this «store» — more like the size of a very small bedroom. but it was filled with so many gift possibilities
minus 1 star b/​c pricey. plus 1 star b/​c of great service.
We picked up some wool sachets with lavender ($ 26 for 4) — lovely. though why wool?

Mini-​water color set $ 14 (Altoid box –refurbished with mini set of paints) sooo cute. and might be good for plane ride… or restaurant. They had it displayed with a water paintbrush — which worked really well and might contain the mess better. But it comes with a fish dropper (so cute!!) and mini paintbrush.
best value and kiddie gift I would say, would be their pencil block with colored pencils (which could be used for regular pencils) $ 15 — would be a great kiddie birthday gift or could be used for restaurants to provide for their kiddie clientele.

The only non-​pretentious, non-​hipster store in this alley is Walrus. The owner is very sweet and welcomes anyone who comes in (even if you’re not wearing plaid and RayBan sunglasses). Items are very well priced unlike other stores in the area.

Wendy came and installed a four-​pallet living garden gate at my house. The gate is sturdy, practical, and it has so much character. Good, friendly communication throughout the whole process. Thanks.

Walrus is a small little shop within the Temescal Alley. They are Upcyclers of vintage and pre-​owned goods for the home. Walrus is also has a shop on Etsy, have been sighted at the Alameda Point Antiques Faire, and offers separate home design services.
The first time I came into the shop, either Wendy or Camile (the owners) was happily working away, with her daughter happily playing underneath a table. It’s a cute little retail space and full of restored goodness. The stock changes fairly often, so each visit is a new adventure.

My home is looking remarkably better and much more organized thanks to Camille. We recently purchased a home in Alameda after years of renting. I really wanted to make our house a home without breaking the budget. A good friend who lives in the Marina recommended Camille to help us make the most of our space.
On her visit, Camille advised on where to place furniture and how to make the best use of the different rooms. She opened my eyes to some possibilities with our old furniture so we didn’t have to make any big purchases. Following the visit, she helped me research items online which could fit with our vision (for us it was a rug and some organizational pieces).
On her follow-​up visit, she helped me hang the wall pockets and picture ledges she recommended in addition to some of our art. I was so nervous about putting holes in our walls and she walked me through it, even showing me how to use the drill.
Overall, I was pleasantly surprised at how little I spent and I loved that Camille made the most out of the furniture that we have.
I haven’t see the shop yet but I’ve peeked at their Facebook page and there’s some cool stuff.
