I visited Whitney’s studio on my 40th birthday vacation in the Bay Area… that was about 3 years ago. It was FABULOUS! Her work is beautiful and meticulous. All the while, it is completely handmade. Whitney is cheerful and fun and so is her beautiful work! Wow!

Adorable stuff. Unique and really nice muted colors. But, really. $ 70 for a single cupcake stand? I could buy a year’s worth of cupcakes for that price.

My love affair with her beautiful work began in 2008 when I received one of her cake stands as a gift. Since then my collection has grown as I follow her Etsy website( ), her blog, met her in person at her various shows around the Bay Area. She will also host an open studio event one or twice a year where you get the opportunity to see where all the magic happens. She’s wonderful to talk to and work with. If you are a lover of the arts, then you owe it to yourself to own a Whitney Smith piece. What I love about her work: * How she incorporate nature(birds, leaves, butterflies, flowers) * The clean lines * The gorgeous glazing(my favorite is her signature green glaze) * The pieces are beautiful for home décor AND practical for every day use! * You can tell each piece was a labor of love * There is nothing else like her work on the market I have 15 pieces and I can’t wait to get another!

Whitney’s studio is delicious! All of her glazes are amazing colors, and the motifs of dogwood blossoms and sweet little birdies really pull on my heart strings. The designs are Art-and-Crafts style but more contemporary and fresh. Cake stands, vases, and all sorts of vessels to adorn your home. Wonderful Gifts. Her studio was open last weekend but she is usually there during the weekdays, or by appointment. I love this little section of commercial/studio space on Athol Ave. a stone’s throw from Lake Merritt and my house! Check out her web site, the links on her«Friends» page opens up another portal of arts/crafts etc.(both local and national peeps) that worked me into a frenzy! I so admire entrepreneurial women.
