Zinga Frozen Yogurt

Zinga consistently has my favorite yogurt –Euro Tart – and fresh strawberries/​blueberries in a clean environment with well-​mannered, cheerful servers. What’s not to like?
Groupon has a great deal where you get four $ 6 coupons for $ 12. My family bought one and used it up in a week. Always filled with kids and families, this is a great summer after-​dinner pick-​me-​up.

Zinga is my favorite group shop right after Menchies. What I like in particular about Zinga is that they not only have frozen yogurt, but also custard and gelato as well. The one thing I wish that Zinga would add is more fruit toppings for the frozen yogurt to counterbalance with the candy toppings that they have. That way I won’t feel that I gained a pound after going there.

Went here because the red cups were $ 5 to fill the whole thing this weekend. The flavors were not my favorites but they had trusty vanilla tart. They had gelato, and Italian ice as well. Sure enough I filled the cup to twice the height of the cup, loaded with pink poppers and topped with strawberries. What a deal! The cashier was really nice on checkout.

We only go here because it’s literally right down the street from us.
Every time that we have gone, the toppings were already being cleaned up an hour before closing time. There is never any hot fudge and if there is, it’s burnt to a crisp.
All the kids that work there look miserable and look like they hate their lives.
We have a 15% coupon for checking in using Unilocal and asked the cashier if we could use it and his words were «I don’t know how to» wtf. and his buddy right next to him looked at the coupon and was like «Nahhh we don’t do that». It just seems like they’re all trying to get off work early and dgaf about helping.
Flavors are good if you go earlier in the day. Go an hour before closing? It’s all liquidy and not worth the money.
They have an acai bowl option, but I never see any acai froyo flavor being offered. It would be awesome since acai bowls are pretty good.

We walked in and no one was in the front, after 5 minutes the lady came out saying hi. She was on her phone and taking our orders at the same time. The acai bowl was watery and did not taste that great. There was also a hair stuck onto the side of the bowl. I would recommend to go somewhere else for an acai bowl, the only reason why we came because we had a coupon. The coupon was not even worth it.

Zinga is the Toyota Prius of all cars. Recently hopping on the «healthy froyo bandwagon» as Toyota appealed to the «hybrid car phenomenon», Zinga is the typical frozen yogurt joint. It is plastered in vibrant colors and features an exclamation point in their logo (Zinga!), a necessary component to truly! express! their enthusiasm!
I’ve been to other Zinga locations– Herndon (R.I.P.) and Falls Church– but it is the Oakton location that inspired me to write this review. The quality of the frozen yogurt isn’t all that bad, that is, if you get their Pacific Coast Tart. Obviously far more superior than its Atlantic coast counterpart, the tart flavor is a simple, yet delicious flavor that rarely fails to satisfy at any froyo place. The other flavors however, are questionable. The 5 year old in me wanted to try the fluorescent Radioactive Italian Ice flavor or Cherry Bomb Gelato flavored froyo, but just like Prius owners hope to save the earth, I hoped to save my body from heart failure. I eat frozen yogurt to be healthy, right?
One thing I did appreciate was this cardboard divider they provide so you can separate your froyo/​topping combos from mixing. A very useful thing to have unless you’re feeling the Red Velvet Cake/​Valencia Orange blend.
Now what I really want to write about are their new Acai Bowls. Being the economically savvy consumer I am (51 mpg), I decided to use a BOGO free coupon I recently received in the mail to try this out. When I asked the lady to sample this mysterious acai mix, she not only said I couldn’t, but that she had never tried it herself and had no idea what it tasted like. Fantastic. Her and another young worker left me feeling uncomfortably awkward and confused. There seemed to be a serious communication problem between the two. They seemed to not really know what they were doing and had no idea how to ring up my coupon.
Overall, their yogurt is mediocre at best, dividers were a plus, and customer service was off-​putting
Sparknotes: Move to California, buy a Prius, and stick to tart froyo.

The staff in this store was great! She was very friendly and helpful and while the fro yo was a solid 2.5, she brought this up to 3 stars for me.
The yogurt selection was disappointing, and I was a little confused by how the flavors were matched – for example, there was a salty caramel pretzel that was tasty, but it was paired with something it totally didn’t go with, in my mind at least!
The topping bar was well stocked and had a HUGE assortment. There was also a wall set up with many dispensers full of various kinds of cereal, which is great if you are a serial cereal eater!

The kids like it because of the wide variety of topping choices, but the frozen yogurt flavors are a bit generic. It’s not bad, but it’s not amazing either.

Hate to say this but this was one of the worst frozen yogurt places I’ve ever had. I had three tasting bites and ended up not getting a full cup to go because the flavors were so fake tasting and the texture was weird.
They did have a good selection of toppings though so it sucks the froyo is a joke. Also the girl who rang up my boyfriend looked like she hadn’t showered in a week and her sweatshirt was terribly stained and looked like it hadn’t been washed in months.
The rating of 2 is for the toppings only.

There are way too many high quality froyo places out there to waste calories at this one. Too many neon colored flavors and starburst flavor combos. The staff way apathetic. The toppings bar was laid out uncomfortably. For the same price you can get soooo much better.

I don’t know what these other Unilocalers are Unilocaling about but how frozen can you get frozen yogurt people? I went to Zinga at Oakton shopping center and was pleasantly surprised when I won a free yogurt. The yogurt was good and the toppings were fresh. I don’t go very often but I’ve never had a problem.

It’s not the best, but it’s in a shopping centre so it’s conveniently located. The froyo is clearly not «frozen», the toppings are just above average, the staff aren’t exactly on-​par.
Also, listening to dubstep at above-​comfortable volume isn’t how I’d like to spend my froyo-​eating sunny Friday afternoon. I won’t be back here any time soon.

I wasn’t overly impressed with Zinga. I have friends that rave about other locations so perhaps I was just under whelmed with this spot.
As other people have stated, the Fro-​Yo isn’t frozen, it’s pretty soupy and was basically liquid by the time we sat down to enjoy. The only fruit options on Friday night were strawberries, while I was thankful for them and the slivered almonds; they were basically the only options other than cereal and candy.
The staff here are clearly high school children and that shows. They had quite a few friends hanging around the check out line knocking stuff over jumping and hugging each other.
Overall, just blah.

I came here for the first time and was not the least bit impressed. The chocolate yogurt looked more like soup than like frozen yogurt. I asked one of the several employees that were standing around if the yogurt was supposed to look like that and I was told, «well, it will still taste the same.» Then, I had to ask twice for lids since I was taking my yogurts to go. The customer service was horrible, the place was not adequately stocked, and the yogurt wasn’t frozen. It is convenient, but not worth the hassle.

We happened to stop by b/​c it was the closest place around to get my froyo fix. Set up is pretty normal and similar to any other froyo place. I have an affinity towards REAL TART FLAVORED froyo — and this place has it.
Blueberry tart and non fat regular is on point! Definitely had a vast array of toppings as well.

Read my original review for the full skinny, but even though I swore I wouldn’t be back, this place is so convenient for satisfying a froyo craving when leaving grocery shopping at Giant. And the Starbucks was closed for renovations. Welp.
It’s still not good. I mean, yeah, it’s froyo, and maybe the flavors were a little better this time. But the yogurt still isn’t cold enough; it basically drips out melted already. The topping bar was so disorganized, mushy and had condensation and crumbs everywhere that I just recoiled in disgust and had my froyo plain. It took me a minute to grab a spoon on my way out because some rotund employee girl was standing in front of them flirting and punching a taller employee boy with hipster glasses and a backwards hipstery hat on.
Luckily, I’m moving, so I’ll never be tricked in to coming here again by convenience.

There are a combination of things at work here that lead to this low ratings. Some of these things the people at Zinga can totally help. Others they can’t. Here we are:
1) Upon going in, I was surprised by the limited selection of flavors. Nothing struck me as particularly «cravable» or even very appetizing.
2) I was surprised and, at times, horrified by the types of toppings available. Why in the world would I need to put Agave Nectar on top of an already-​sweetened yogurt? That’s literally the same as putting sugar syrup on top. In addition, where is all the fruit? Only the strawberries seemed at all appetizing. Rather than sad fruit, I was able to select from a combination of cereals and candies which wasn’t what I was looking for at all.
3) So I get with self serve that the staff can’t always control what happens to the toppings. I understand that these places aren’t the cleanest because who knows who touched that spoon before you got there. I’m not a germaphobe. Most of the time I don’t think about things like that. I DO think about germs though when I am across the toppings stand from an 8 year old boy who pokes at some chocolate something or other licks his hand and then grabs all the topping spoons with that same hand. Bleck. It was in that moment of watching him that I lost my appetite for the whole experience.
4) The whole «cake or waffle cones are only 50 cents» scam. So when you select the initial bowl for your yogurt, you may get a bowl that has a piece of cake at the bottom or that has a waffle cone inside. Above that section, there is a sign proclaiming that these options are only $.50 extra. Well, that just isn’t accurate at all. Because Zinga charges by weight, you are charged the $.50 for the extra thing PLUS the weight of that item whether it be the very dense cake things they sell or the large waffle cone. I just thought that part was a bit disingenuous.
I doubt that we will be back. If I want to go crazy overboard on my caloric dessert, I’ll do it in the dark recesses of my own home as it should be done.

I really like this place for any time of day, afternoon or late evening. The people working here seem like high school kids but they are very responsible, friendly and professional. They bring in new flavors all the time and let you sample any flavor you want! They have so many toppings too! the environment is nice and ranges from young kids, families, adults. The place it self is well lit and colorful! great for anyone of any age!

Everyone at Zinga is very friendly.
So many different kinds of frozen yogurt and most of them are low fat (3 grams or less). You can sample as many flavors as you like.
The toppings are amazing!!!
It’s weighed by the ounce but very reasonable priced (better then red mango and pinkberry)
I love going here.

I’ve been feeling really lazy, being so excited for a FroYo place to open up even closer to me than Vienna. Molly’s and Red Mango are both just a couple miles down the road but the Oakton shopping center is a perfect location for me. As soon as I saw Zinga was open I headed over to try it out.
While I’ve become a fan of self-​serve FroYo, Zinga’s lack of fruit toppings and poor quality of those that were there overshadowed the self-​serve convenience. As Joshua D mentions, it seems they are focusing more on indulgent FroYo, rather than healthy, with a candy selection that far outnumbers the fruit section. I did appreciate that they had little juice balls, but all the fruits were old and mushy. Even the actual yogurt left a lot to be desired.
I’m hoping that the poor topping quality was a result of them only recently opening and not having a whole lot of customers. I’ll likely return to give them another chance but another repeat will have me making the long distance trek to Vienna for my FroYo needs.
