Universal Windows Direct

I have been very pleased with everything from the initial meeting with the sales rep to the installation and follow up of our door and window. The price matches the quality and I am sure I will be purchasing more for the remodel project I am currently in the middle of on my rental property. Adding quality Windows and doors to investment properties had proven to be wise investment as the tenants notice these things and are more likely to accept the higher rates for the rental because of the quality.

First of all let me say that so far, I love my smart cover gutter system. They are attractive and work very well so far. As far as the salesman, I didn’t think he was overly pushy but I did NEED new gutters very badly and a friend who has a similar size home recommended them and also told me what they paid so I had a good idea as to where the price for my gutters «should» be. The first quote was almost three times the amount I figured I’d pay! I gasped. After another sales pitch he came up with another amount that was still more than twice what my friend paid for a similar size home just last year. Finally, after «calling his manager» and looking up the amount my friend paid, they were able to match my friends cost. I was satisfied and excited to get them installed.
Installation day came and the gutters were installed and look great, but unfortunately there was quite a mess left behind. I was told the run a magnet over the area to assure there are no screws or debris left behind. That was not done. Subsequently I found a half dozen screws in my yard, driveway and around my home and garage. The installers stepped on a hose for my pool which caused it to crack and now leaks water. I found a small piece of aluminum on top of my pool cover which poked a hole in the inflatable outer ring so now it doesn’t hold air. Basically, my granddaughters small, $ 200 pool is now trashed. There was also old strapping from the old downspouts left hanging on the house and one area that I was told would be diverted away from my sidewalk, was not, so now there will still be very bad ice build-​up on my walkway.
In short, the price was decent after barganing with them but I don’t feel that just because I negotiated a lower price doesn’t mean they should do a shabby job installing or trash my belongings.
It’s a real shame because I had planned on purchasing new windows and roofing. I will be shopping elsewhere for them.
Update– After my first review of this company, I received a phone call from a manager within five minutes of posting. I was told that they «wanted to make things right» for me and that he would talk to the president first thing in the morning to see what else they could do for me but in the meantime they offered me $ 500 off my next purchase with them. Honestly, even though I said previously that I wouldn’t do business with them again, I think if they would have made an effort to «make things right» with me I probably would have looked to them for my new windows as well as replacing my roof. Sadly, I haven’t heard anything from them since. I will take the loss of my pool and this bad experience as a lesson learned and get the rest of my work done elsewhere. I will also advise my friends, family and anyone reading this to do the same. Don’t get work done here! Read the reviews and go somewhere that truly cares about customer satisfaction.
***UPDATE*** Although they contacted me IMMEDIATELY after I posted my review, NOTHING was ever done to try to remedy this terrible situation. Bottom line, unless you have money to throw away, DON’T DO BUSINESS WITH THIS COMPANY!

I am so happy I went here for our windows. We did the entire home and they were great. Could not be happier.

This place has the absolute worst sales philosophy ever. I contacted them after a home & garden show and tried to set up an appointment the first time. They insisted that both my wife and I be present for the initial quote this is not possible because of her very busy schedule. First we are shopping around for quotes from all the window companies so we aren’t going to buy right away till we have an idea of cost and what we like so the presence of both parties is not necessary. Second in sales you should really want to get through the door first and then go from there. Don’t set up road blocks for yourself before you even have a chance to make a sale it’s a ludicrous policy.
So after that happened I told them I wasn’t interested because it really bothered me the way they handled it. Both my wife and I know what we are looking for and share the same view. Then they called back another time not realizing who I was to try and set up another appointment. So I called them to give them an honest answer why I didn’t want to use them. They actually listened the second time I called not the first time that sales guy acted like «whatever». Then I gave it some time shopped around and called back again to see if things had changed, it didn’t. So I can safely say I would never use them and would certainly not recommend them to anyone else.

I have so many problems with this company it’s hard to know where to start. First of all the salesman (Brad) reeked of alcohol. It was coming out of his pores. Second of all his sales pitch took 3 hours! He spent an hour on the history of the company alone. I tried to rush him along but he just kept going through his incredibly boring pitch. My husband & I told him up front that we weren’t interested in the top of line window but of course that’s what he showed us. After 2 hours we finally got to the price of the windows. He started off double of what our first estimate was. Then it took us an hour to get him down to a reasonable offer but that was after 2 calls to his «boss.’ I use that term loosely because I don’t know many people tell their boss they love them before hanging up the phone. He also became incredibly defensive when the price dropped by $ 8,000 stating «well their goes my commission.» He also proclaimed that Universal Windows Direct is the only company to offer a «super spacer.» Well, that’s not true as it was showed to us during our next demonstration from another company. Bottom line — the guy was shady. My husband and I agreed on the deal but ended up cancelling the next day after talking it over further and getting another, much more honest, estimate. While reviewing some of the paperwork we were left with we noticed some discrepancies in what was discussed and what was written. Not only was the right to cancel paperwork not dated properly but he had also marked that we were to receive ⁵⁄₈ inch windows when we had priced everything for the ⁷⁄₈ inch windows. Luckily we were able to get our deposit back right away. However, when my husband was at the office turning in our right to cancel paperwork he noticed on the receptionist’s desk a stack of credit applications with the customer’s name, address and social security numbers sitting there in plain site. Clearly, this company does not care about keeping customer’s information secure. That in itself is terrifying. My best advice is to stay far, far away from Universal Windows Direct!

High pressure sales tactics. I received 3different prices while the salesman was at my home. We are willing to pay good money for a quality product, but we are NOT willing to endure such high pressure that you feel like you might as well offer to let the salesman spend the week with you while you finish getting quotes and comparing products. At one point my husband let to pick up dinner… and the rep stayed to offer a «better» price. This was after I made it perfectly clear that I was NOT making a decision that evening. Too bad. We were willing to pay cash and probably would have chosen them.

The guy looked like he was going to move in when he came through the door. The windows were in the attic. He went up with me, had to go back down for his tape measure. Then after he measured he said that someone else will do a final measurement. Seems inefficient and that I would be paying for both of those peoples time.
The salespersons presentation was long and it was late and our dinner was getting cold. He wasnt doing a very good job so I had to cut him off. He kept going with his presentation and I told him multiple times he had to wrap it up. I finally got a quote of 2700. I told him that was way too much so he gave me a quote of 1700. I basically had to kick him out of my house. five minutes after he gave me the quote he said he could save me even more, as a one time offer. I told him he just handed me a quote and if he could have given it to me cheaper he should have two minutes ago on the written estimate. Like I said I asked him to leave multiple times before he did. It was a terrible experience. I wouldnt trust this company.
