History

Established in 1976.

The World Famous Greene Turtle was established in June of 1976. A small local tavern located in North Ocean City Maryland was known for backgammon and peanuts, with only a couple draft & bottled beers. The original owners, Phil Anthony and Mike Holden hired Steve Pappas and Tommy Dickerson who are long time buddies and college roommates. In 1981 Pappas and Dickerson purchased the Original Greene Turtle keeping the local tavern atmosphere with a sports emphasis making it one of Ocean City’s most famous watering holes. A full menu was added featuring Maryland crab cakes and other crab specialties. Soon The Original Greene Turtle became famous for their homemade crab cakes with customers requesting carry out orders. The Greene Turtle is now franchised and expanded through out the Mid Atlantic region & beyond.

Went there in off season –winter-​food was ok, we ordered cheesesteak, wings, burger, crab pretzel your typical bar food. Was very cramped in there. Tables where so close maybe just alittle to close for my comfort. waiter was nice, checked on us numerous times saying or food would be right out (like 5 times) saying sorry for delay we are busy, then asks if we wanted chips and dip cause food was taking so long. Then 5 min goes by and brings or food out that we ordered. Wasn’t hot at all. Never did see the chops and dip, didn’t care I wanted my food. Then never seen waiter till
We finished eating. Just hate to see this place in peak season. I’m sure it’s a cool grab a beer at bar. But to sit down for dinner.. May be a different sorry

Terrible… it used to be at least decent but c’mon…unless you have to actually raise the chicken/​cow it shouldn’t take this long!!! And when it finally did come it was a huge dissapointment… I was down for a friend’s wedding and a bunch of us thought it’d be cool to revisit this place (used to live down on pacific!)…boy were we wrong! And altho I’d never take my kids in there we noticed a couple had… bad choice! I’ve never seen so many wasted, loud — mouthed ‘roid rangers who were using the ‘F’ word as a noun, verb & adjective to the ignorant servers who, if female, were ½ naked and clearly wanted to be anywhere else but working… you could see how uncomfortable these folks were! If you’re thinking of going here do yourself a favor… just don’t!

The worst food and service at this Green Turtle location! We have had no problems at the other DE locations. Food was not cooked all the way. Waitress gave a lot of attitude once we complained about an entrée not cooked right. Her response was well I didn’t cook it. She also said she was not able to split the bill (which is unheard of). Amazingly once we called for the manager he apologized n split our bill. Sorry not tipping a waitress with an attitude.

The original Green Turtle is unlike any of the others. It is your typical sports bar. Lots of TVs and a good place to go and watch a sporting event. The food here is pretty good. Craft beer selection is nice. In the summertime it is packed and you can barely get a seat. In the winter time it is one of the few places in OC to go and get wings and have a cold beer.
Tonight we had the fish tacos. I have to say they were better than I expected. Also had the monkey bread and ice cream for dessert. This also exceeded my expectations for a sports bar.
I would definitely recommend the green turtle with her it’s for a bite to eat or to get a drink after work

I gave The Original Green Turtle a little higher rating than the average review, and here’s why: The Original Green Turtle is akin to your local bar and grill, except this one is near the ocean! It’s not a large establishment, but that makes it cozy, and you can’t help but meet people. The prices are reasonable (keep in mind this is OC) and the food was good, especially the crab melt (think crab dip on two slices of Texas toast) it was awesome.
The craft beer selection was decent, and they have plenty of screens in the bar to watch the game. The also have a restaurant area.
We happened there after the place we had planned to go to was closed that night, and it was the best decision we could have made.

We just stopped in for a few beers since it’s walking distance from our condo for the week. Decided to share the chili nachos and they were absolutely delicious. I regretted not getting one for each of us because we were scraping the bottom lol. They were a little pricey being 12.99 but they were delicious otherwise

If you are looking for good food, please don’t waste your time here. The fare was subpar bar food. Very boring. The hostess has a personality that was cold as ice and made you feel very unwelcome. The one alcoholic drink we ordered had no alcohol in it and main alcohol was supposed to be rum!!! Never again will we go to this place!

The green turtle is just what it advertises a sports bar. The setting is TVs and sports memorabilia a bar and booths. The difference goes beyond wings but adds crab cakes, shrimp ribs and an assortment of other items to dine on. A very friendly waitstaff. Our meals included crab cakes which were a little spicier than most found, fish & chips the fish were Yuengling beer battered cod, Barbecued half rack of ribs and 12 shrimp with a mildly spicy BBQ sauce. Appetizer we had hot wing chicken dip. I’ve made hotter and I am sure they make theirs to match most clientele taste.
Overall the Green Turtles meals were good, hot, quick, and served with a smile. The beers were cold and our time spent enjoyable and not rushed just as it should be. It’s latter in the season and early evening but even though it’s bike week and the place was filling it still had a quiet ambiance.
Great Place to go and a simple menu and from our location in OCMD it’s a great convienience.
We’ll return!

The wait to get a table was 15 minutes. This was not a problem. It took 15 – 20 minutes to get drinks and order food. My group got our crab fries 45 minutes after we ordered them. They would have been good, had the fries not been overlooked and like warm. The main course came around 50 minutes after that. The food was cold and was nothing close to satisfactory. I personally got food poisoning from the food after we left. This was my worst experience at a restaurant in Ocean City or any free turtle I’ve ever been too. I would not recommend going here to anyone, unless you have a lot of time to kill or you need to get food poisoning to get out of a test. I wish giving zero stars was an option

Service was excellent. Bartender was excellent and treated us as regulars even though we stopped in on a Tuesday afternoon. We had a couple of shots, «The Turtle» and Orange Crushes. The crab dip with pretzels were amazing. The original Green Turtle is by far my favorite. Karen is an amazing bartender and I hope to see her again soon! I’ve never felt so comfortable at a bar away from home! Thanks Karen for the EXCELLENT service! We’ll be back to see you!

Well. It has been 10years since I was in ocean city. Our family favorite that year. It was across from our hotel. The food was typical bar food. They are very kid friendly. It is our last day in OC. So we need to have a great day of food and fun. So we started the day at the green turtle for lunch. We had no wait for lunch there are enough TVs to watch any game. The down side it is a Ravens and Orioles bar but I can get over that in the summer. While waiting for our food I was able to look at what the neighbors are having. The wings looked and smelled fantastic. The service was excellent. The food was good. Not great but very good.

I liked this place. The sever was quick with our order, but she had to keep going back in the kitchen to help push our order out the door.
The menu is pretty much the standard bar menu. The food was good once it came out. Had the «A little hot» boneless chicken wings and the cheese feud with bacon of course. I have to the, the chicken wings were just slightly over a little hot, haha. But very tasty. Finished the plate of fries, very good. Just had to run an extra mile or two the next day.

Horrible, flys everywhere I was smacking them off of myself every two seconds so we asked to take the food to go… Waited 40 minutes to receive our order and staff seemed pretty miserable to work there, which always says a lot for the quality of the restaurant… Definitely would never go back, told a family on the way in not to eat there as we were leaving, hopefully they took the advice.

We came early 4:30 and there was plenty of room. It was a little on the dirty side. The server was very nice and the food took a little longer than I thought. Everything was tasty for the most part. One of us got the fish wrap and the fish was odd tasting. My blackens chicken quesadilla was very good. I would come again.

I went with a group of 35 people and spoke with Ilene to organize everything. She was able to get us tables for 35 people and we were able to see the mayweather fight. My group could not have enjoyed themselves and been happier.
The food was outstanding. The kids who are 13 and 14 loved the food and said it was a great place. All the parents loved the food and the staff was great to us. Kept us from getting thirsty or hungry.
Steve the owner made sure everyone in the place was happy and had a seat for the fight. He made sure you were well taken care of. Very nice to see.
I highly recommend going here. If you have 1 person or 35 like we did you will be treated right.
