Davina’s Mexican Restaurant

An over priced place. Food seemed to be pre made. We ended up leaving this location after we seen the kids food and went to El Mundo De Mariscos. 30 $ for two kids meals and a side of guacamole that was also store bought… surly will not go back.

Came in at lunchtime was only one there. I was seated owner brought chips and salsa, salsa had a good bite to it more than I cared for. The waitress/​owner was telling me something I couldn’t hear her so she shouted it out, she did that the last time I was here. I thought maybe she changed but no she didn’t. The food is not Mexician tasting by any means tastes like it came out of a can. Won’t ever be coming here again ever.

I wouldn’t say this place was AUTHENTIC Mexican food but it does what I need it to do, taste good.
This is the place I always stop at when I’m in the area. The service is fantastic, the food is good, their happy hour is amazing .
Generally I don’t go upstairs but I hear the view is pretty.

Found a little gem in the city of Oceanside tonight Tucked away on the corner of mission and 76, it is called Davina’s. The food was delicious and very authentic. Best fish tacos in Oceanside in my opinion. Will definitely return for great food.

This is not TJ style mexican food by any means, but I do believe it’s authentic. This place is good. Portions were big, service was fast, and you can’t beat the Unilocal deal they were offering.
2 strong margaritas a cold beer and a big plate of carne asada and shrimp fajitas-​… BOMB.
If it weren’t so far away I would come here more often, but I’m a Carlsbad ‘bro and I was out of my ‘hood when I came here. I came here one time like 5 years ago when I lived in the ‘side, and remembered it being pretty good. Saw this Unilocal deal and had to TOFTT, glad I did.
Cool place to come and have a few beers and get legit mexican food– very kid friendly place too. Weird place for a sit down restaurant to be, it was like in a strip mall next to dry cleaner and and a karate studio or something?

This place had the worst mexican food I have ever eaten in my entire life. I only ate a little bit of my food but it still managed to give me food poisoning!

This place is disgusting worst Mexican restaurant in Oceanside. Food has no favor beans taste like hot water there rice is over cooked no favor as well. There Carne asada tastes like you’re chewing on a stick of leather or piece of beef jerky so gross. Not to mention it gave me wicked diarrhea:(cheapest ingredients used such as processed cheese. Definitely a no bueno restaurant disgusting.

Love the food. The salsa is wonderful. Most places have it so hot that I can not eat it, but not here. The flavor is lovely

Great service, tasty food, comfortable booths and like one of the other reviewers said «we love the salsa and chips»! The super burrito was massive (better be very hungry), the Mexican pizza reminds me of the original tostadas. The fish tacos taste awesome, I only wish they were available grilled/​but only batter fried. The margaritas are wine based, so no salty lime ones. The strawberry one was good, and substituted for dessert. We will be back! !

Food is great, husband referred me here from his times as a single marine. Only downfall is the waitress was very impatient. She just had an aire about her that was very uninviting and impolite. We had to track her down to get my drink and then to get our check.

We got a deal for Davina’s through Unilocal deals because we were going to be in the area and thought, «Why not, you can’t mess up Mexican food.» Well, we were wrong. This place was pretty much the worst Mexican restaurant I have ever been to. I’m not one to rate a place low, either.
When we arrived, there were a bunch of people hanging outside. It is in a run down strip mall, and but we figured that this must be a good sign showing that lots of people like this place. That wasn’t the case, I think they were just loiterers or something.
Upon entering, we found that we were the ONLY people in the place. It wasn’t clean at all. The lighting was horrible, not because it was low (because I like that vibe), it was just bad as in misplaced and low quality. The whole place looked like it had been closed for three weeks and they opened the doors without actually prepping for reopening.
The service was pretty bad, too. Slow, depressing, and just odd.
The food. Who can mess up mexican? Wow, it was bad. I got the fajitas and they were tasteless and bland. We also got the nachos to meet our minimum quota and the nachos were just chips and cheese in a microwave.
Last, I could see the worker/​cook pouring himself beer in the back, which didn’t seem very cool to me. Just make my food, bro.

I went here for lunch with a coworker. I was not overly impressed by the quality of the food. For the price, I’ve had better and way cheaper. They do have a small lunch menu but no substitutions. :(Service was okay, but I don’t think I’ll be coming back here. Try Fiesta Mexicana, not too far from here.

I used to eat here a lot for lunch when I had more time. The food is ok it may not be the best or authentic but I like it and the portions are pretty big. Some of the plates you can actually share so that’s nice. I usually get a burrito plate which is wallet friendly and will fill you up.
Davina’s has been in this location for years and even though the location isn’t ideal it works for me. Okay so yes there’s usually one waitress and I always wondered why. Sometimes it’s busy but sometimes it’s slow and the waitress is always nice to me. A lot of the time there’s a cop car there which makes me think the cop is getting free food.
Overall it’s an okay place to eat and yes the salsa is pretty good.

I live so close to this place and really wanted to like it BUT I eat out ALOT being a sales rep with clients so it makes me very critical because there are so many outstanding places to eat in San Diego. Unfortunately the closest to my house is terrible.
One star for the fantastic service…
Now my rant… my carnitas chimichanga had mushrooms in it and turkey gravy on the top? The waitress said it was jalapeño sauce? Trust me it was brown as hell turkey gravy, my wife tasted it as well and just laughed. The cook must have been stoned out of his mind and put turkey gravy instead of jalapeño sauce.
My wife’s chilpote chicken was nothing special either and borderline embarrassing to call Mexican food.
Waitress again was awesome but there is no way we would EVER be back and I am stunned at the positive Unilocal reviews. Something has seriously changed here since people ate here last or maybe it is people who do not eat out a lot idk…
Hate writing bad reviews but feel it is truly a warning for other Unilocalers beware. Kitchen nightmares needs to visit this place big time, mushrooms and turkey gravy right out of the pack on my carnitas burrito true story. Beer needs to be colder too, I did not mind as modelo a little warm for me is fine but the wife could not drink it.

I love coming here, best Mexican place in Oceanside (that I know of). It’s a nice little place to relax and enjoy your food, not too much noise and distractions. Has a «small-​town feel» to it. Would definitely recommend it! Oh but the only thing is… they don’t have to-​go cups for your drinks that you want to take on the go :(

I have been coming to Davina’s since I was a little girl and it continues to be my favorite Mexican food restaurant. It’s a hole in the wall place but, the food makes up for the atmosphere. The chips and salsa are so good and you can always tell its fresh. The chips aren’t bought from the stores and thrown into a bowl with a side of pace salsa it’s the real deal! I always get the Mexican Pizza which is like a tostada and it never disappoints. My friend always gets the enchiladas and those are to die for as well.
The staff is always so nice and always on top of there game. I never have to ask for a refill or more salsa they just being it right out.
The atmosphere is not the best since its in a older strip mall but again the food is excellent. You must try it out!

My friend and I stopped here on the way to the casinos, and thanks to Unilocalers suggestions, she ordered the wet burrito. I must say, a $ 6 chicken burrito, was a very good deal. It covered the entire plate, filled 100% with chicken, covered in the red sauce and cheese. It beats my 1 item combo of an enchilada (also stuffed with chicken), beans and rice… but my dish was $ 9.99, not at all a bargain like the burrito.
Not sure if its a 3 ½ or 4 star place, so I’ll give it 4 stars for a decent first impression.

I think I found my new favorite Mexican food restaurant. This place is casual, small, cozy, and has the best Mexican food. Fiancé had the chicken enchiladas rancheros and a quesadilla, and I had shredded beef tacos with rice and beans. Super simple but everything was delicious and fresh. Not to mention HUGE, we both took half our dinner home! I liked that the atmosphere was so home-​y. I saw a few reviews down saying it was too dark… yes, there’s not a whole lot of light but it wasn’t a big deal, we felt like it added to the atmosphere. Service was great. There was one server working the night we went (last Thursday, if the owners see this, she rocked!) and she took care of all of the tables in the restaurant. (There were 7 or 8 and maybe that’s normal, but we thought she handled it really well.) We came in with the $ 15 for $ 30 Unilocal deal so we weren’t really looking too closely at price, but it seemed reasonable. We left completely stuffed and satisfied, talking about when we’d be back.
Also – I was talking to a few friends about this place and they thought I was crazy for liking it. I was confused because it got such good reviews. turns out there’s another place in Oceanside called Davina’s Cabo that apparently sucks (that’s what they thought I was talking about). I wonder if some of the bad reviews for this restaurant are for that Davina’s?
