Every experience I’ve had with HSD has been amazing. They’re a husband and wife team who love what they do and kick ass at it. JP shapes the boards and Andrea uses her airbrush/​painting skills to turn them into beautiful works of art.
I bought a used board from them, which I wasn’t quite ready for — but my more advanced surfing friends loved it. I knew other people who raved about their boards and last winter they ran a special on custom boards I just could not resist. So, I brought JP the board I learned to surf on and asked him to make me a smaller version of it.

This board is outta control amazing. He totally nailed the shape and feel of my old board, but improved the maneuverability and speed tenfold. It’s so much fun and everything I wanted it to be. I was short on funds and was bummed not to be able to take advantage of Andrea’s artistic talents in airbrushing, but next time I will definitely have her beautify my board.
Aside from the amazing custom board, I know they host fun demo days and Andrea also makes beautiful jewelry out of the surfboard resin and I always get compliments every time I wear a piece I purchased from her. Plus, HSD are eco-​consious and always giving back to the community in some way or another, which is totally rad.
So, next time you need a new board, skip the mega stores and support your local shapers. Your board will be MUCH more fun as a result, as will the purchasing experience. You might not be able to walk away from your first meeting with JP and go surf your new board, but it is WELL WORTH THE WAIT for a custom board from HSD.
