Went here to eat the other night, and got all you can eat. They are really good about bring out your first round, and then take FORRREVERRRRR, damn near 30 – 45 mins to bring out the second round. By that time the first round has settled and your appetite is gone. Then they want to charge you full price for any sushi left over, that could have been ate had they not taken so long to bring it out. I ordered a lot from the kitchen, they forgot half the things I ordered, and didn’t bring out others for close to 30 mins after ordering. I’ve been here before twice prior, and each time it’s like this. They’re not busy. It’s unfortunate because the food is pretty good but the service is horrible. I will not be back. And on my last visit here, a rabbit ran in to the kitchen, and they didn’t try to get it out… I wasn’t to excited about that for sure!

Horrible service! Got all you can eat, they bring you your first order out right away and then almost as if they do it on purpose, took another 30min before they bring out your next order. They also missed numerous items on the original order and then had the nerve to bring it out 1 hour later, and say oh sorry, here you go. She even had the nerve to smile when she did it like it was okay. this was not the first time going there, it happend before but I thought maybe it was busy that night, tonight it was not busy at all. They really try and cut down on how much you order on all you can, eat. will not be back, I strongly reccomend Hanna’s. The lady owner is a b#$&@

Fist time coming here. All I gotta is the food quality and customer service is excellent. You can do the all you can eat for the price of two Special Rolls in any other sushi restaurant ! This moves as top 3 places in San Diego Area!

I live in Oceanside and this is my favorite sushi in North County. They are extremely friendly and have always taken great care of me and my family when we visit. I’ve gotten into the habit of ordering takeout over the phone and they recognize me by now and always have something special waiting for me and my daughter when we arrive. It’s delicious and very high quality. We especially love the double shrimp roll and their fried rice. I can’t recommend this place enough.

My first time here was on Mother’s Day and it’s a so overdue rating/review, from the minute I walked in, I was treated with such hospitality. The food is AMAZING. I’m saying it. AMAZING and AUTHENTIC!!! Definitely will be returning again…

Terrible service, I don’t know why this place has 4 stars. They have two waitresses working the whole entire restaurant took at least an hour to get our all-you-can-eat sushi they never refilled her water I had to ask for sauce twice and never brought us wasabi and ginger and when they did it was barely enough for one person they never asked is how our meal was we had to get up and find them to pay the bill. Over priced and fishy. Would not reccomend this place I would def consider it a «hole in the wall»

A very solid sushi spot that is tucked away in a random strip mall. The place is low key and seems fairly authentic. There wasn’t really any explanation about what was going on when I got there, but everyone else there seemed to get it. There are two main options, the all you can eat or ala carte. The all you can eat seems like its really popular, but that makes sense since its only $ 22 for lunch and $ 24 for dinner. The all you can eat menu you order from seemed surprisingly extensive too. I chose to order ala carte and ordered a bunch of nigiri. The fish was really fresh and well prepared. I also had a couple of rolls that were well made too. I would definitely go back.

I normally don’t give low ratings unless i have to. Given that it was our first time here, impression plays a big part whether we would go back or not. First of all, the place isn’t terrible considering the location. The inside is clean and the service was good(for the most part). The reason for the average rating was primarily because the sushi(nigiri and rolls) had too much rice. Seriously, people go pay not for the rice but for the fish. The fish was fresh, presented nicely, and they had pretty good selections especially the rolls and the kitchen apps which was the saving grace at least for us. Too much rice was the killer. Otherwise, not too bad but probably won’t be going back on a regular basis or maybe never. Hope they fix this issue. We also probably won’t rave about this place to our friends or coworkers.

First let me start off by saying my husband and I REALLY wanted to enjoy this place. They have an all you can eat option with seafood AND vegetarian options, which is perfect for us. We, however, were very disappointed. My husband loves all things seafood and his favorite thing he had tonight was my avocado roll… not the best sign. The rest of the food was mediocre at best. THEN it came time for the bill. I had ordered the vegetable tempora(sp?). It came with a good size plate or various vegetables. I ate most of it, leaving behind the TWO single onion rings because I’m not the biggest fan of onions. Our waiter told us she needed to charge us for the vegetable tempora because of the leftover onion rings asking if we could read the sign that states all leftovers will be charged. We understood that if we took anything home OR even of we left a full plate untouched we would be charged… but charging us a plate of vegetable tempora for two onion rings? No thanks. I sucked it up and asked for a minute so I could finish the last two. We shall not be returning and suggest you detour away as well.

Waited to write a review until I’d made a second visit. Both visits were on Wednesdays, for AYCE dinner. The sushi was great on both visits, just came down to personal preferences. Soft Shell Crab Roll: my «go to» roll at all sushi places. Was not impressed with this one, decent, but not yummy. Rock n Roll: surprising awesome, the cucumber wrapping & lack of rice, was very refreshing. Had to order it again on the 2nd visit Fashion Island Roll: Really good, I’d order it again in a heartbeat! Jalapeño Bomb: Way too spicy for my taste, especially with the sriracha on top. I could only comfortably eat 1 ½ pieces, and I like spicy food. Gyoza: REALLY good, we had to order a 2nd round. They were super fresh and hot, but not greasy Shrimp shumai: they’re fried, not steamed(should’ve read the regular menu for the description). Had too much batter around the shrimp, then wrapped in more coating… WAY too salty Cucumber Salad: fresh and good Miso soup: so so for miso soup Yo Ma Ma: fresh & good, perfectly spicy Crunch Roll vs Double Crunch Roll: both were good and fresh, I think I enjoyed the Double Crunch roll a little bit more, although it is messier Seared Albacore: I ALWAYS have to have seared albacore at every sushi place. First visit, seared albacore was perfect, second visit, was just ok. Bathroom was nice & clean on both visits. Service was great on the first visit, barely mediocre on the second visit. There were dirty plates piled up, and she just kept walking by. My companion asked for more water, mine was empty too, she brought only enough water to fill his & totally ignored my empty glass. On both visits, we sat at the sushi bar, but on different sides(different chefs) The sushi chefs on both visits were great. The lacking service on the one visit wasn’t bad enough to keep me away from the great food, I will definitely be back & hopefully they were just short staffed for the one visit. (There were a few other things ordered, but I either didn’t try them, or failed to remember the names)

Love the updated interior. food was delicious. Service was pretty good. Had some rolls. The seafood heaven is delicious. But the thing to write home about was the calamari. Omg so tender and crispy, so so good. eat it. Not inexpensive we spent the typical 80+ dollars but will go back. Yum!

I’ve been to this location with every previous sushi place that was here. I hesitated to try this place but This is my new hidden gem spot for sushi! We got all you can eat & the rolls were not a stuffed with rice with a miniature piece of fish they call sushi! The chef was very accommodating to an tweaks we wanted to make. Very friendly & wanted to make sure we were satisfied. You can tell he cares about what you think about his food & his place. We will definitely be back!

Please let me start by saying that my wife is Japanese, which doesn’t necessarily make her an expert… but we have spent a fair amount of our lives trying to find great sushi restaurants in The US. This is our favorite Sushi restaurant in San Diego! The quality is really excellent, in fact, I feel it is on par or better than most of the higher priced restaurants in town. Considering that the«all you can eat» option will cost you roughly what two rolls will cost at another restaurant, you really can’t beat Kampai Sushi. The chefs and staff go out of their way to take care of us. Almost every time we come in, they give us an outstanding«house special» dish. Overall, they have a wide variety of excellent sashimi, nigiri, and roll sushi, in addition to other Japanese staples like tonkatsu ramen, gyoza, miso soup, and others. I personally have never had poor or slow service here, so I cannot corroborate one other recent reviewer’s experience. Try this place, I don’t think you will regret it! It may even become your regular spot.

Super sweet family that works here. Military discount is available and I love how when you order to go they offer you water and edamame :)! I’ve ordered a few rolls here and they have always been served fresh. They have an all you can eat Lunch & Dinner. Décor is nice, plenty of parking, and excellent customer service!

Oh my gosh, I’m so in love, I found her finally… it make me wanna say O O O O… O O O O O… O My Gawd. Why haven’t we been in before now? We did the all you can eat sushi. Yes there are rules associated w that. You can’t ditch all the rice, you can’t over order and take to go. Standard for all you can eat sushi. Everything we had was good. See my pics… particularly liked the OMG. Hence the starting line of my review. We will most definitely return

We came here on Christmas night where it was still open. Sure, the place was pretty empty and slow as everyone stayed home to celebrate X’mas. We were not so excited about AYCE sushi places but on a X’mas night when every other place was closed, we tried. Turned out, this is a very nice experience. The waitress was very friendly and nice to kids(we have two crazy one…). The AYCE menu was huge… including a lot of cooked food too. Fish quality was great and portion is big. We couldn’t believe the sizes of the ramen and udon we ordered(via the AYCE menu)… they are full-size bowl that would cost at least $ 10 a pop else where. Good quality of food, very reasonable price.

Im a HUGE fan of sushi and I take pride in the places I choose to dine in, but beside the décor and friendliness of staff, it all boils down to quality and consistency to receive a good rating. From looking at the star ratings this restaurant has received, I decided to give a try. When I first walked in, you notice the dark tables and décor and the bamboo trees that are lined up in the middle that builds a wall to separate the other half of the restaurant. I was immediately greeted by a sweet asian lady who gladly took my order. I alway order sake and beer wherever I go for sushi and when I got the glassware there was lipstick stain on the rim! That right there killed my mood and expectations of the place and I havnt even gotten my food yet! The lady was very apologetic and replaced it then finally my food came. I must say, their sushi here is pretty darn good, and the incident that took place was completely forgotten. I noticed that they tend to open shop up twice in one day, meaning that their open for almost 4hours the first half of the day and then they close up to get ready for dinner service at 5. Overall, the reviews do show they have a great reputation in the county but for my first time experience here and getting a dirty dishware it really just seemed unappealing for me to come back. If your dishes are dirty, god only knows if their plates and other kitchenware is kept clean.

New place in a strip mall near Frasier Farms. Walk inside and the interior design and concept is outdated and looks like the restaurant has been here for ages, but it’s their grand opening –__– They are certainly open, but the place is dead inside. Granted it is Sunday night, but it’s 7pm and they are open for another two hours. With the place nearly empty, they have already begun to spray down and mop certain areas and clean the whole place — aromas that don’t pair well with eating dinner. Take a look at the menu and it is highly predictable with way too many choices. Tons of your Americanized giant maki loaded with sauce and then deep fried. No real sushi menu was given to us, so I had to just yank one from behind the counter we were sitting at. We filled out our order. I was a bit disappointed not to see any«fresh catch» or special arrivals for sushi that are usually not on the menu. Sushi came out and it was solid 3-star level. The fatty tuna was served much too cold, so the subtle flavors were lost on this expensive cut of bluefin. The star of any sushi experience, sea urchin(uni), never came out :( Had to sort of fight for attention to pay for the bill since we were the only people in there and the staff were busy tidying up or watching golf on TV. Sea urchin was taken off the bill since the server realized we never received it. Overall, it was disappointing. It did seem that they have 20% dinner on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday; which sounds pretty awesome. I think given the ambiance, service, and flavor quality, I would not come back unless it was 20% off night.
