Well I think I’m over this place now. We just went for breakfast burritos again. I ordered a bacon, bean, egg and cheese. I got potato, eggs, beans and cheese. He ordered a sausage, potato and egg. He got eggs, potatoes and chopped hot dogs.

The food here is really good and always fresh. I have been eating here regularly for months now and I absolutely love it. I have only explored the Mexican side of the menu and I have tried a lot of different dishes without disappointment. There is also a nice deck area to sit and eat as well. The service here is good and very friendly the owner Mike is literally the nicest person I have probably ever met. On Tuesday they have 69 cent tacos of carne asada, pork, and chicken and they are all awesome with good quality meat. Also on Thursdays they have $ 1.99 fish tacos that are battered, fried, and are so good. I can’t wait to start trying their Greek side of the menu. Definitely a good place to eat and possibly the most reasonable prices I have seen around Oceanside so do not hesitate and come see Mike and eat some of his awesome food.

The restaurant/market is low end and has signs of low volume business. The service is familiar and friendly. The food we ordered was average. We came for the restaurant but I looked around the market while we waited. There were some great prices on produce but freshness is questionable. Same with cold items. I would however, take advantage of their bakery, packaged tortillas and tortilla chips. Those all looked yummy. The key is to buy the items that sell frequently so you know you’re getting fresh product. As for the restaurant: My husband ordered carne asada fries, the kids ordered chicken taquitos, and I ordered pastor street tacos. We came on a Sunday afternoon and there was only one worker manning everything: cashier and food prep. That made food service slower than I looked forward to. But since there wasn’t any other customers, things moved along ok. The pastor tacos I ordered were very good and had full flavor. I’m definitely a fan and I will return for that :) The carne asada fries were not special. They came with crinkle cut fries like the kind you buy from the freezer section. The meat was shredded not chopped. The taquitos were well made and had bell peppers rolled into them. That made for a unique presentation and taste. The toppings were all around, not fresh. The lettuce and guacamole were browning. That was a major presentation and taste disappointment. But guacamole is expensive to make and has a short shelf life — this is a sign of low volume business. I would still come again, the street tacos were $ 1 each and on Tuesdays they are only .69 cents each. That’s so worth it! And the workers are friendly.

Don’t order the take out. I was so dissapointed. First of all the man on the phone wasn’t very helpful and I kinda felt like I was disturbing him by calling to order. We ordered Hot wings, a fish burrito and a carne asada burrito. The carne asada burrito wasn’t to bad, except it didn’t come the way I ordered it, not even close. The fish burrito my husband ordered ended up being fish tacos. Meh, but then he was stuck on the toilet hating life this morning. The hot wings we ordered for our son was just some fried wings covered in the same salsa I enjoyed on the side with my carne asada burrito. The whole meal was a fail. Won’t do this again.

This is a rustic Mexican market with a counter and kitchen in the back where it seems 2 old ladies are cooking their tails off! It’s a little strange to have burritos and tacos on a menu along with baba ghanouj and falafel, but if they’re as good as the Adobada Torta I just had, then this place could be a star. The sandwich was rustic too with delicious torta bread smothered in mildly spicy Adobada and cheese, topped with ripe tomatoes, romaine lettuce, and chunky slices of avocado and onion. The Adobada is the best I’ve had in Oceanside. Again, the market appears like it was transported from a small town in Mexico and dropped in Oceanside, but don’t let that dissuade you from trying it! I will be back for more and I hope other adventurous eaters will give La Familia a shot.
