Planet Fitness – Oceanside

Had a really bad experience here. My husband and I had a membership here for a while and then we were moving. So we went in to break the contract and the lady had us sign and we were done. We moved far, but our accounts were still being charged. We tried calling multiple times. Long story short… we finally came back in town -$ 600 later being charged and had proof of canceling etc. they could not help us when we showed up in person. Now we’re in this whole legal thing with the bank and the owner trying to get our money. Just think twice about signing a contract.

For the price, the Black Card is a deal. The gym itself is pretty well-​maintained – not perfect but quite serviceable. All the weights and machines you could want (except for a rower, but I can get that at home). Massage and red light booths are nice extras. The travel priciledges have prove vwry iseful when I go out of town for work. My main complaint would be with patrons who park on machines (especially the cybex fly machine). Apart from parking, though, the clietele is diverse and almost always courteous. The staff has been friendly and helpful, especially after I became a regular. There doesn’t seem to be a lot of turnover, which I take as a good sign, as well. I have transferred my Black Card membership as I have moved from NC to Va and now to SoCal.

I have gone to several fitness centers, in fact I am part of Silver and Fit and have a membership at 24 hr fitness and Planet Fitness beats them all. The staff are friendly, respectful and helpful when you need help and give you space when you don’t. The Cybex equipment is the best ever, well kept and this place keeps everything pristine. There are water spray bottles and lots of paper towels to keep customers knowing it is their responsibility to wipe down everything after their use. I do not see this at other gyms. The lockers are clean and modern. The bathroom/​shower area is also cleaned almost hourly.
For the $ 20 per month I can bring a guest ALL the time, even the same person with no prob. I use the water massage, chair massage and this strange stand up item called total enhancement. This piece of equipment is a toss between a tanning bed and an exercise thing that shakes you into toning. It assists in the ability to exercize longer and gives me strength.
Interesting and great. There are 8 TVs to watch so something for everyone when on the tredmill or bikes and there are plenty to go around! Love this place!

I love planet fitness! I signed up here because I’m on a budget and they had a great deal ($ 10 a month, only $ 5 sign up fee!). The staff instantly gave me a warm welcome and showed me around the facility. The gym is actually really nice with quality equipment and clean and nice looking locker room. I like that there’s unlimited personal training classes, it’s a judgement free zone, and is open 24 hours. I come here 4 – 5 times a week and would definitely recommend it! They also have tanning and massage chairs available with the $ 20 a month membership which is pretty cool.

Love this gym for $ 10/​month. I’ve been a member for about 5 months and only go before work in the mornings, but so far so good and suits my needs just fine. Everyone wipes the machine down like they’re supposed to, there are more than enough cardio machines, and the bathrooms/​locker areas are always pristine. I can understand how this might not be the ideal gym for a professional athlete, but it’s more than enough for me.

I just wanted to give Tiffany P. a super huge shout out for her outstanding help! My boyfriend had his bank information stolen and someone from a completely different state was using it. She seriously went above and beyond my expectations of what I thought Planet Fitness was going to do to help us.

I just moved to Oceanside and Planet Fitness was the closest gym. So I cancelled LA Fitness and joined Planet Fitness. I love this gym. It has everything you could need PLUS MASSAGE CHAIRS, BEDS AND TANNING BOOTHS for Black card members, It’s Way cheaper than LA Fitness and everything is PURPLE!!! Gotta love that! Ohhhhh and for you night owls it’s open ²⁴⁄₇. I went in one time at 3 am and there were at least 10 others feeling the burn!

Such a joke! Went with a member today to try the gym and possibly join. Never made it past the front desk. Unless I paid up front and became a member, I could not try the gym, get a tour or see the equipment and figure out if the gym suited my needs. Obviously they don’t need my business and I am perfectly happy to take it elsewhere. (I ended up finding much nicer gym for slightly more than the $ 10/​month — smaller, clean and much friendlier). My friend also cancelled her membership because of the poor service and attitude of the man at the front desk and will be joining the new gym with me.

So update. If you plan on joining PF, wait to join on or within a week of the 17^th for the $ 10 down and then you will not be billed your first month until the 17^th of the following month. I made the mistake of joining on the 4^th for $ 10 and then I was billed $ 20.95 on the 17^th, so I basically paid $ 30.95 for my first month. It’s a good gym but READ the fine print.

Honestly, for all that they offer. You cant beat the price. The manager at this place, Tiffany will take all concerns you may have seriously. Its always clean and there is always a machine available for tou to use.

I’ve been working out here since they opened. They seem to be worried about all the wrong problems. Ultimately, the place is full of gang-​bangers. They park on the same equipment (cable cages or smith machines) for the entire time they’re there. They mad-​dog everyone (start at you) and are the usual low-​life territorial slime that frequent all the low price places. The first month I was there, I came in at 6:30 am — probably 40 degrees outside in January, and I was informed I couldn’t wear a beanie. Now, there’s always a street-​rat cruising all tatted up with a beanie on. The staff is great at greeting you at the desk when you come in, but typically give you the cold shoulder on the way out. Ultimately, it should be automated with security guards. On two separate occasions, I’ve come in and been accosted by vagrants standing by the front door (keep in mind it’s 6:30 in the morning) demanding money. The staff wasn’t even aware they were there until I told them.
Equipment-​wise, it’s good quality, and they kinda maintain it. Lots of torn upholstery, but if a piece of equipment is broken, they usually have it fixed right away… unlike 24-​hour fitness where equipment can be broken for weeks on end.
As far as pizza night, whatever. If it was Round Table Pizza, I’d be in there for it. Lil’ Caesar pizza is garbage. Who cares.
Finally, you have to watch they’re annual fee scam. I was charged in October, and then they tried again in January. Watch you charges closely. This is nothing new with gyms. They’re all are guilty of this. Not just gyms anymore, I suppose. Check out the reviews for «The Joint» in Oceanside. Same thing. Even after you leave, they keep billing you.

I am a self admitted gym failure… I have tried 24 hour fitness, LA fitness, you name it. I have never been able to stick it out, and basically wasted hundreds of dollars on monthly fees and rarely stepped foot through the door. I was never able to put my finger on it, but now I know, it was the culture (and let’s be honest, pizza and my couch won me over often as well). I was attracted to PF simply by their $ 10 a month fee and no contract, even though this location is about 25 minutes from my house. I joined a masters swim program a year ago and am at the point where I am not going to advance without working on my upper body strength. And Hubs? «Whatever you want dear…» He’s a keeper :) We went to check it out one weekend and were greeted by Tiffany. She was great, gave us a tour with an emphasis on the PF values and culture, and then walked us through an easy to understand membership program. They actually highlight any financial impact in the contract so it is easy to understand and there are no surprises. Tiffany made sure we were getting the most bang for our buck by recommending we make my husband the black card member and he can bring me as a guest. That way, at least he gets the added benefits. We met with their personal trainer, who gave us a template to work off of. Very easy to understand. The thoughtfulness of how they laid out the gym is great, legs in a private area and facing the wall so creeps can’t stare at my hoo-​hah while I am on the hip abduction machine. A separate area for stretching so you are not in the way of passersby. Everyone, staff and patrons alike, have been pleasant and welcoming. Plenty of cardio machines to accommodate everyone during that after work rush. In our welcome packet they even gave us a sheet showing us what their highest use times are. I don’t feel judged by any «leg day» cults, or beefed out looks of disgust because of my jelly roll. PF, you guys figured it out. Bonus, my favorite color is purple!

Wow. So there’s a new assistant manager. Guy who is going up to people very negative and saying they cannot bring in half gallon jugs left and right. He has been targeting fit guys and trying to get all the actual fit people out. Because he feels intimidated and wimpy. Now, if it was on a contract or something when we sign up that’s one thing. But I re-​read my contract and there is nothing on there. Basically you can get kicked out managers discretion. I’m going to call corporate because this new manager I think his name is Marcos is very rude, unprofessional and calling people out as they are working out in front of others! Who ever put this man in his position does not know how to train and develop their team. This gym is a joke.

So I’ve been going to this gym on and off for about 2+ years and overall its been a positive experience. Here are a few key points from this gym;
— the price of course, I’m a broke student so the price is affordable
— since I’ve been here the staff keeps the place clean and so do most of the members
— I seen the staff come and go and overall they are friendly and I’ve never had a problem w them
— yes they have pizza and other stuff but you dont have to eat it, I dont know why people complain over that
— It can get crowded on certain times so i’m glad its open ²⁴⁄₇ because i go either late at night or early mornings to avoid the crowds and more machines are available
— its not an intimidating gym, all sorts of bodytypes
— my only complain is that i wish it had more equipment but not a big deal bc ive gotten results from going to this gym.

Its good but, the staff? You dont even know what uou can do cuz they are always like… U cant do this because that and this
Last time my friend went there and he was working out fir 3 hrs and after that time your muscles hurts and he was in pain and one guy came to him and he told him… U cant scream cuz every body is training
And i think this is a gym not a library

Pay the extra and go to a better chain. The customer service here is garbage, restrooms are ALWAYS filthy and the equipment is limited.
If your really serious about getting fit, this is not the place for you. Any gym that serves pizza is not creating a focused fitness environment.

This is a great gym for what it is! If you want an Olympic lifting gym obviously go somewhere else! (or be a member at a second gym like I do). It is designed for regular people who want a good workout without hearing the banging of olympic plates or the grunting of ‘meatheads’. For all the people complaining about the lack of Olympic barbells — that what sets this gym apart from other gyms! Thats kind of the point! This place is perfect for casual to intermediate weight workouts, and great for all levels of cardio.
At $ 10 or $ 20 a month and 24 hours this place is awesome! Love the staff, love the rules that force everyone there to respect eachother, and love how clean it is. Plus they have massage chairs, unlimited stand up tanning, hydromassage, and red light therapy too which totally sets them apart. Great place, amazing value, and very happy to have added this place as my second gym!

Horrible service by the staff; and how is this a gym?
No dead lifts? REALLY? Pizza? Cupcakes? A no judgment zone, but there’s a restriction on water bottles, and a lunk alarm? Oh Kay and you don’t «judge», please. It’s a lazy people gym. They have a lounge… A lounge!!! The weight selection sucks, and even if they say they don’t judge, it’s a lie!!!
You can feel the staff watching you, and it’s not cool. Thank goodness I don’t pay for this! My best friend took me because she has a black card, to bring a friend once, glad I came. Now I appreciate 24 Hour Fitness WAY MORE! They give my friends 7 day passes.
I had a horrible time working out here! Felt like I was being judged by the staff while I was working out. It was frustrating! Couldn’t work out happily. My best friend and I were having a conversation about SEX as we walked on the treadmill, we were the only two in the area maybe one person at weights, and another on bike, and a staff member told us to keep it down.
EXCUSE ME?!? KEEP IT DOWN? Do you have a RULE ON NOISE LEVEL??? Please highlight it on the contract so I can see!!! Never again!!! EVER!
Anyways, Never coming again. Service here sucks anyways, staff can «cancel» your contract without notice just because you’re «loud», that’s ridiculous.

Honestly, my first impression was that this would be the perfect gym considering its spacious, open 24 hours and has a low membership price. But then I was informed that they do not allow Olympic lifting (squats, cleans, deadlifts) or crossfit exercises. what the hell? I thought it was a no judgement zone. but what they do allow, is pizza?! ARENT YOU SUPPOSED TO BE A GYM. that honestly really irritated and repulsed me. It is ridiculously counter productive and disrespectful to those on diets or with strict eating regimes or who meal prep. All the extra stuff is cool and somewhat draws you in but at the same time, it’s a fucking gym not a day spa. might as well bring in a manicurist too. I’ve been a member for 6 hours and I’m already ready to cancel my membership.
I came from 24 hour fitness and paid $ 40 a month there but now I see why. you get what you pay for and I’ll be going back. (Arnold voice)

Im not a huge fan of community gyms like this, only because too many random people use it and I tend to get sick easily even if the person wipes down the equipment when finished.
I went in as a guest with my gf. Everything is all on one floor.
First thing you walk past are the countless treadmills, sectioned off into two back to back rows. They have tvs all across easily readable to find out what station you want. And if you look further ahead youll see 4 different rooms all with huge titles above the room labeling exactly what each room is used for (abs, butt/​legs, ropes etc…)
They do have plenty of staff walking around to help you out and they do live by their saying «No judging here.» Which should be a number one rule at every gym haha.
They also have a nice well kept locker room. Massage chairs/​beds and also this red light treatment which is suppose to speed up your metabolism and make your skin feel great.
I didnt get to use any of the nice stuff because I was just a guest, but thats alright.
Overall, I like the fact that its open 24hrs and its clean. I just dont really like the floor set on how they decided to organize all the equipment.
Again, im not the type to go to these public gyms but if this all sounds good to you, id highly recommend it!
