Dr. Penvose-​Yi seems like a nice doctor, but I have had billing problems. Aetna claims that she is not in network, and therefore will not cover the claim, but her staff insists that they are in network. Even her billing agency tells me she is not in network, which explains why they are not processing my claim through Aetna. Office staff is rude; one gal who answered the phone laughed at me when I mentioned that I had been trying for days to talk to one of the office managers. I think this consultation was a very expensive mistake.

THIS IS THE WORST OFFICE EVER! They are extremely unorganized and don’t even post payments! They will literally take your money and then threaten to send you to collections when they have not posted the payments from MONTHS ago.
If I could give 0 stars, I would. STEER CLEAR!
I had my first appointment with Dr. Penvose-​Yi on August 10^th, 2015, because she was close to my home, had reasonable reviews and seemed like a good fit. During my first appointment Dr. Penvose-​Yi listened to all of my symptoms, got down all of my medical history and diagnosed me with PCOS. Confident she said that without a doubt, that’s what I had and that she would send me for lab testing just to confirm the severity. I got my labs done and waited for my results.
On August 26^th, 2015, I had an appointment to review my labs. Upon entering the office and checking in, I had to wait for a half-​hour before I even had my vitals checked. Then, I was ushered back to one of the rooms… I another half hour before Dr. Penvose-​Yi even came in to see me. She then asked what my appointment was for — which I found extremely odd, because she is the one who said I would have to come back to have my results read and her nursing staff are the ones who called me to schedule the appointment to get my lab results! She then made me go through all of my symptoms again and then asked if she had sent in orders for the lab testing to be done… I explained her nursing staff had called me to let me know that they had received my results a few days before. Dr. Penvose-​Yi then went scrambling looking for my lab results, an hour went by and she came in to let me know that she couldn’t find the labs and would have to call Quest to get my results sent over electronically… Scary, right? This office does not even keep track of your personal medical records! So who knows what ever happened to my labs, they probably ended up in someone else’s file. HIPAA, anyone?! A half hour later Dr. Penvose-​Yi comes back in the room with my labs and tells me that she does not need to read my labs because they were completely normal and offered me no other solution for my symptoms. So I told her to read them off anyway — I mean seriously, I was there for over 2 hours waiting and she felt that she didn’t need to read my labs? That I would just leave after being misdiagnosed and had to wait for over 2 hours? SERIOUSLY? She then said that there was nothing else she could do because I was «normal» and said that she would see me in a year for my annual.
As if the August 26^th appointment wasn’t bad enough, I have gotten multiple statements from this office dating 10÷12÷15, 11÷12÷15, 12÷14÷15 and 2÷1÷2016. I paid the first statement from 10÷12÷15 in full. I then got a second statement on 11/​12/​2015 for a smaller amount and noticed that my first payment did not reflect on the recent statement dated 11÷12÷15 — so I called the number on the statement, which is a 3^rd party billing department. The billing department informed me that the Dr’s office had not posted my payments and told me that if I did pay my dues, that I would need to speak with the Dr.‘s office. I called their office and the receptionist told me that the person that I would need to speak was in a meeting and that she would have call me back. I never received a call back.
I then got a statement on 12÷14÷15 for an outrageous amount of nearly $ 500 and the statement did not reflect my previous payments! Aside from not reflecting my payments and being an outrageous amount — I pulled up my Statement of Benefits through my insurance provider, Aetna, and they were not billing me the Aetna Contracted Amount, they were completely exceeding it! What’s the point of having contracted rates if you are not going to abide by them?! Once again, I called and the receptionist said that there was no one available to talk to and that they would call me back. I waited, waited and waited and never got a call back.
On January 10^th, 2016, MONTHS after my appointments and my payments, I still had not received a response from Dr. Penvose-Yi’s office. I sent them a formal, faxed letter that explained that I have called several times to discuss my account and to clarify that there was no balance due. The letter continued to break down their billing, included my payments, explained that the Aetna contracted rate is not to exceed $ 236.00, and finally closed the letter stating that I have made multiple attempts at contact with their office and if there was a balance left on my account — to notify me IMMEDIATELY! I got a fax reciept to prove my attempt at contact.
Additionally I got a statement from 2÷01÷2016 saying they have attempted contact with me and I have not responded or made a single payment and that I would be sent to collections! REALLY?! I called and spoke with the Office Manager who tried to tell me that my «balance is my responsibility!» When I’ve paid and given proof!
Most unprofessional, unorganized office I have ever dealt with!

Dr. Penvose-​Yi and her staff really care. Went in for a second opinion on birth control and she went through my entire medical history with me, as well as performed a painless Pap during the same appointment (saying «Paps aren’t supposed to be painful»).
Also offered to coordinate care with my holistic hormone Dr. who works out of Chula Vista.
So much win.

This place is very unprofessional! Dr. Penvose-​Yi called my husband cell last Wednesday and left a voicemail that said, «I have received your lab work. Nothing urgent but call me first thing In the morning» it was after hours so I waited for the next day. I called at 8:30 am and the Stacey I believe her name was said, «she doesn’t come in today!» I was well why does she say call back first thing? She said, «I don’t see any notes. she checks in with us once a day. When she calls all ask and return your call.» That never happened! It’s Monday and nobody has called to give me results. Thankfully, I was able to obtain them myself. And guess what they are abnormal. Nothing to worry about but still they need to follow up! I’m 12 weeks and I haven’t even had a dating ultrasound. They haven’t sent a referral yet! The first and only visit I had I waited an 1 hour to be seen. This place is a joke! She had her dog running around the office. I can go on and on.

Dr. Penvose-​Yi is a wonderful physician! She’s caring and takes her time to go through your record/​history with you. She has a great bedside manner and truly listens to your concerns as well as addresses them. She’s new to the area so she’s currently taking new patients, I was able to get in right away.
The office is very clean and the staff are extremely friendly. It’s hard to find a good gyn that can get you in quickly. I’m glad I found her and felt it would be a shame if I didn’t pass on my recommendation!
