The Salvation Army

Scheduled a pickup online with Salvation Army for a number of items including an oven/​range. Online form was easy. SA called me with about a 15-​minute notice before the truck would arrive, which was a little short notice. Truck arrived, two men helped pick up the items. They were a little bit blunt with me and not particularly friendly. They seemed to be miffed that the stove was not the kind that they usually take (slide-​in vs. a stand alone). However, I clearly said that I had an oven/​stove for them to take, and they have all my contact information. So if there are certain stoves that can’t accept, that would be a great time to call me and double check to see what it was I was giving away. They still took the item, but made it seem like they were doing me a big favor. Overall, neutral experience.

I am not writing about this store in particular but I am writing about the pick up services for donation. We had an extra mattress that was no longer needed after we moved. We called to schedule a pick up and described out item. We also told them we lived on the 3^rd floor no elevators stairs only.
#1 appointment confirmed for last week. No show no call. We called and they said it was rescheduled for the next week! Okay so it’s a free donation, we let it go.
#2 they arrive to the apartment and we greet them downstairs. They see the stairs and immediately say no we can’t do this and begin to walk away. We state that we called and confirmed stairs were okay. They argue it states we told them it was an elevator. My boyfriend offered to help carry it down. They took one step into the apartment saw the mattress and said nope can’t do it. It was too dirty. I wish they would have told us that on the phone. They just walked out before we could even say thank you for coming anyways.
#3 rude pick up drivers, no respect. Never never donating cash or goods to this place ever again.
#4 they also blamed us for the rescheduling of the appointment 2 times!

I love this place!
