Ben Lomond Suites, an Ascend Hotel Collection Member

Historical hotel, interesting lobby, music playing, lots of history throughout the hotel, Free parking in the garage, central location in Ogden. The room was spacious, it is a suite, but inside it was outdated. And even though no complaints on the cleanliness, everything WAS Clean, but is did not Feel clean, because toilet, shower are quite old, and showing signs of wear.
The breakfast was not enjoyable for us. The yogurt with granola was the best offering for me… Eggs never hot enough, one day potatoes were so dry I could not eat them. the next day they mixed potatoes with eggs and it was OK, but still not good enough. And again, warm not hot.
Service was good, both at the Service desk and at the breakfast station.

Nice old historical building, but staff was not very pleasant and my reservations were messed up causing them bill me even more. This could be a 5 star hotel if it was being run by a hospitable staff…

Great place. very clean and well maintained. You can feel the history all around you. The staff is friendly and welcoming. Great location.

Very pleasantly surprised. Very reasonable price and the room met and exceeded expectations. Even though the décor was rustic the rooms did not feel outdated. Clean and well stocked bathrooms. Beds cozy
For the $ 80 plus & a free limited breakfast it was a nice deal. Hilton down street was newer and pool etc, but bout $ 120 plus and pay for breakfast so for $ 50 less if not looking for brand spanking new, this place works fine.
Elevators are slow…

Worst customer service on the planet! They screw up with my reservation and the manager instead of a simple explanation and apology continues calling and yelling at me with threats of legal action over a 12 Dollar screw up on there end! They have taken the money from my account three times and keep blaming it on me! They refuse to take any responsibility for there actions! Thanks for ruining my family’s vacation over $ 12! Don’t stay here unless you want a company to continue to hit your bank account for unauthorized charges!

A very cool old piece of history that is in serious need of a face lift. If you can get a room super cheap, then I would say go for it. There is nothing scary or health concerning about staying there. The rooms are clean, but old… Very old. The rooms are actually really big, but for us, a bunch of open unused space is a little superfluous. The beds are… OK… The free breakfast is… OK… Everything is just sort of ok. Since we work in the hotel renovation business perhaps we are a bit more critical of these things. I don’t want to see them go under because it is such an awesome old building. I believe that they have begun some renovations, so perhaps we just stayed in one of the less polished rooms, but if that is the case, perhaps they should work a payment scale that is more appropriate to the accommodations.

Almost exactly what we expected. This hotel is only 15 mins from home. We went here for an anniversary for a one night get away. Loved the charm and the craftsmanship of the original construction. Sure it’s a little dated but the décor matches for the hotel era. Staff was friendly and accommodating. Having Macools Pub right in the hotel was nice. Good food and drinks. Margaritas for her and the best Guiness I have had in Utah. All in all it is a good place if you are looking for charm.
The only negative we could say was that the bed was extremely squeaky. And breakfast left something yo be desired. But at least they had good coffee.

My boyfriend and I stayed here on our way through Utah and it was the worst hotel stay we’ve had. We travel a lot, especially him, as he travels for work and has points for Hilton, Marriott, etc, so maybe we’re a bit spoiled, but nevertheless, we expect quality for the price. The most important thing for a hotel to have is a decent if not top notch bed, closely followed by an extra clean room. The bed we slept in at the Ben Lomond was at least 15 years old in our estimation. It was a king but that was all it had going for it. The mattress had definitely had a lot of mileage in its lifetime– with creaking springs and huge divots in the mattress where we felt it bottom out. It was the most sleepless night we’ve had at a hotel in a long time. In the morning, we felt horrible. All we wanted from the «free breakfast» was piping hot, yummy coffee. We were sorely disappointed to find lukewarm, bland coffee. Yes the hotel is historic and old, but any charm was offset by the horrible bed.

The ghosts were friendlier than the staff. The staff had no hospitality skills at all. The room was not what was described to us on the phone. Also on the website it states that they give discounted tickets to lagoon which is why we chose this hotel and when we asked for them they said they didn’t give any. The hotel bar closed at 10pm on a Saturday night. The room never got vacuumed and many of my toiletries had been messed with. I’ll not stay here again or recommend it to anyone.

Beauty place here. Got here 3am today and have to leave in about 6hrs. Nice room. Real good internet, decent amount of elec outlets, nice bath, old tube type tv (surprising and had not seen one for a while anywhere), bedding is very good with king size. I would stay again. Room was booked via employer who called with a late night flying assignment last nite, from Palm Springs to here. Clerk here last night, had trouble finding my res, but worked out finally.

Beautiful hotel. Love how old it is, it gives it a charm I love. The staff was helpful finding things around town and made checkin very pleasant. I love how it is set up and the décor. It seems they try and stay in the era the hotel was built to the best they can but make it comfortable for guests. I don’t like chain hotels and this is a nice get away from them.

May 11, 2014 … had another delightful experience at Ben Lomond Suites Hotel, Ogden, UT. It was a perfect stop on our «road-​trip» from Eastern, WA to Denver, CO. We will stay here again if we are traveling thru…

We had a large group staying at this hotel. For the same rate as national chain hotels we received a free breakfast that was decent, an outdated hotel that had weird pillars in each room, slow elevators and thieves. Two co-​workers had things stolen from their rooms. I think that the folks on our team that got to stay at the national chain hotels got the better deal.

The hotel is old, which gives it some charm, but the outdated-​ness is painful. Some rooms have pillars in the middle of them which is really inconvenient and painful. Breakfast is included and isn’t too bad.
The poor review is more for the staff and what happened during the week we stayed here for a work trip. On one of the first few days, one of my coworkers had her medications and tampons stollen by a maintenance person who fixed her toilet. Another coworker who utilized their dry cleaning service, was told by the front desk the next day that she had no idea where his clothes were and «this is why I don’t take dry cleaning».
Pros: The beds are comfortable. Most of the staff are very pleasant and willing to help. MacCool’s, the downstairs bar, is a nice hangout with decent food and drinks, and fun staff. If you don’t play shuffleboard correctly, a few employees are more than happy to educate you. The lady who works the free breakfast is very lovely and I really enjoyed seeing and talking to her every morning.
Note: elevators are sloooooow to open/​close.
Little to say, we will never stay here again. Amazingly, this was the first time, in all of our travels, someone had something stollen by hotel staff.
Update: another coworker had clothes stolen. The hotel only went as far as they did with the other coworkers in noting it in the folio. No apology or offer for reimbursement or acknowledgment of looking into it. Never again.

There is no hiding that this place is old and was allowed to rot for far too many years. Attempts to remodel have obviously been done by the lowest bid.
Room 606 — right by the elevators. Elevator wait times acceptable. Good size room with two beds (EXTRA firm mattresses), one as a master with its own room. Fluffy comforters, but no blankets in room. Two TV’s, one for each bed, but old CRT style so if you’re used to widescreen the distorted image is distracting.
Wi-​Fi is inconsistent at best, but free. Electrical outlets as expected for a hotel, and one of this age.
If you have children, be aware there is no pool.
«Fitness center» is one stationary bike and one treadmill. Treadmill caught/​snagged every few paces, very dangerous. I did inform front desk. Neighborhood not one where I could safely do my daily run outside after dark instead so I had to skip my runs this week.
Room was quiet. Fan for AC/​heat as effective as a asthmatic smoker with emphysema trying to inflate an air mattress. Toilet flush poor, couldn’t take a single tissue in one try.
Housekeeping staff very friendly. Toiletries good, orange scented. Shower comfortable.
LDS temple, The Junction, Historic 25^th street, Eccles Conference Center all within walking distance.
Acceptable lodgings, but no longer the jewel it was in its prime. My gut reaction is three stars, but will bump up one due lack of many other options downtown Ogden.

I had a very positive experience from reserving the room to checkout. The front desk staff are very helpful and the room was clean and in good condition. I will definitely be staying here next year when I run the Ogden Marathon again. Thank you!

In town for the week from San Diego, and first time guest! Stayed in a king suite.
Loved the historical beauty of the hotel, very elegant! Lots of history, and the service was outstanding!!! Great prices, for such an amazing experience! Loved the staff, Lan was amazing– thank you! So professional– nice to be reminded what a good stay is!

Totally not haunted, at least not from what we could see. We even went up to the «haunted floor» (11^th) and all we found was a restaurant that we then had to pretend to be interested in because the hostess spotted us and asked if we needed seats.
The beds were wonderful, I usually have a backache from sleeping in a hotel but this place was an exception. I let my kids take a bath in the Jacuzzi tub and a giant hair clump came out, so you might want to clean it out a bit before you actually climb in to use it. Our room was beautiful, but my mom’s was a bit less, our room had a full room built in with a door that separated it from the living space.
Everything was clean and gorgeous!

From San Diego, California, my bf and I took an 11 hour road trip to Ogden, Utah. If I remember I Googled haunted hotels and Ben Lomond historic hotel came up. So off to Utah we were, we were due for a road trip and a mini vacay, so why not! We both enjoy hauntings and that sort of thing. Our proudest moment was when we captured a ghost in a picture while taking a tour in the infamous Whaley’s House in Old Town, San Diego, and The Queen Mary located in Long Beach, California was also a treat! Booking at least a week in advance was the only way to reserve one of the haunted suites on the 11^th floor at the Ben Lomond hotel. We stayed in the allegedly haunted 1102 room suite. Loved the room. It had a kitchenette with complete set of utensils plus bowls, plates, and cups. Wasn’t expecting any of that. Normal kitchen size refrigerator with freezer, with a t.v. and couch in the same room. The bedroom had an overly sized jet bathtub complete with shower head. And of course it was used every morning and night! The downfall was the shower head had absolutely no pressure what so ever. The cool part was, it was in the same room as the bed, with a bathroom included in the bedroom. The beds were a bit on the firm side and pillows were not the most softest pillows there were, nevertheless enjoyed our downtime and took the opportunity to fall asleep after 11 hours of being on the road! Didn’t get to do a proper tour of the hotel, we tried but going up each floor looked pretty much the same, so we didn’t get to see the cool banquet rooms and other rooms the hotel features. The hotel is in a great location close to restaurants and a nearby movie theater for a late night flick. Allegedly the female spirit in 1102 has a reputation of physically pushing guests. The last day my fiancé woke up that morning recalling having a dream of a lady pushing him in bed and pulling his pillow from under his head.

This is a great historic hotel if you are into that kind of thing. My husband and I try to hit up exclusively historic hotels when we travel, looking for a little bit of history, mystery and adventure! So, having a bit of historic hotel-​ness in my background, I can say that the place is very well maintained… Keeping a place this big and this old updated and in good historic shape is quite a feat… Lots of work and money… The lobby is grand and inviting and the special occasion rooms are BEAUTIFUL! The hotel staff was VERY nice, allowing us to check in super late (12:30am) as we were traveling a looooooong way to get there – Such a Godsend!
Also, the bed and the linens in our room were AWESOME! This place gets the award from me for the most comfortable hotel bed… And it had a GIANT and I mean GIANT jetted bathtub. That was cool n stuff, but we only had a couple of hours to stay before we had to hit the road and I think it would have taken hours to fill that thing up. Our room also had a kitchen… Which we LOVE cause we are food snobs and take all our food with us when we travel… Not so much because we hate other people’s food, but to be sure we are equipped for survival if the Zombie Apocalypse hits whilst we are traveling…
Now, to the really interesting stuff. If you know the history of this place, you know that folks say it’s haunted. We stayed in room 1102, one of the reportedly haunted rooms. Folks report energy and interaction along the lines of being shoved… I was not looking forward to shoving, so I kindly asked the ghost not to shove us… She obliged, poking my rib cage and touching my arm repeatedly, and blowing insanely cold air on my husband through the night. Like 50 degree’s cold when the room had no AC and it was a billion degrees outside. Lots of energy and I kept getting the name «Laura» or «Flora,» while I was there. Definitely some action here, good energy though and had I not been so tired, I would have done some EVP action to see if a conversation could have been had. All and all, great visit, GREAT place. If this is your bag, you will love it. Folks that don’t love this kind of stuff, or like brand new places, probably best not to risk a bad experience and review and stay somewhere else that’s more you…
