Oklahoma City Zoo

What a great place and fun time to spend time with family and friends. It really has a little something for everyone. From kiddos to adults, there is enjoyment. For the kids, there is obvious fun: animals, shows, and there is the ability to have a birthday there too.
For adults, it’s obviously fun to watch the young ones in your life enjoy it so much, and it’s also a pretty decent workout walking up and down the light hills.

OKC’s Zoo is one of the best zoos I’ve visited, and I always try to hit a zoo when I am in a new city. We’re ZooFriends members, which has some nice benefits. You get your own entrance, which is nice when it’s crowded, as well as 10% off at the gift shop (including drink purchases, which is key on hot days). We’ve definitely made back the money we spent on the membership.
The OKC Zoo has a good variety of animals, but some are given more attention than others. The elephant area, in particular, is fantastic. It reminds me of a huge display from Jurassic Park, it’s massive. The Cat Forest is great as well, although the Lion Overlook contains many spots where it is difficult to see. I know the goal is to make this as much like their natural habitat as possible, but I would have added a higher vantage point for guests to see when the animals are sitting on the higher levels. This is nitpicking, I know that you can’t have a zoo where 100% of the animals are seen 100% of the time.
Your FitBit will get a workout when you go to the zoo. It is hilly in spots, and sometimes the signs aren’t the most helpful. But, the zoo employees are fantastic. If you can’t find the Ape Escape or Stingray Bay, ask for help.
There are plenty of parks throughout the zoo for kids, and lots of fun hands on activities, including the aforementioned Stingray Bay. They can feed the stringrays for only a couple of bucks. My son (5 years old) loved it. The Noble Aquatic Center has sea lion shows throughout the day, and I can’t recall the exact price, but it’s only a few bucks a person. Recommended.
I can’t comment on the food at the zoo because we always eat lunch elsewhere when we’re in OKC. If you arrive to the zoo early enough, parking is not an issue. It’s a great way to spend a morning or afternoon, and a fantastic attraction in our city. Highly recommended.

Waited in line for 20 min for concessions to be told our line is closed & we had to move to another line. They were then out of the the 3 items we requested. It was frustrating. On the other hand the grounds and exhibits were beautiful

This OKC Zoo is really quite impressive. I love that it is really affordable to get into… Especially with a military discount :). They also have free parking. Really, getting in the door will not cost you very much at all.
Once inside, there are so many fun options of things to do. If you have little ones, there is a really cute area with a bunch of activities for kids to do. They have a petting zoo, a water area that kids can play in which is great for hot days, and much more.
There are so many different animals. I thought there wouldn’t be that many, but they have almost every animal you would want to see. We absolutely loved the Sea Lion show and i highly recommend that you watch it.
Overall, you will have a great time at the zoo. Bring your walking shoes and you are set to have a great time!

This zoo is surprisingly awesome.
They have a lot of animals and is pretty large. They also have a decent marine life area. Great place just to walk around.
Also, the admission ticket is ridiculously cheap. It is $ 8 per person. $ 8??? That is awesome to make it affordable to everyone. Don’t get me wrong, it is not the best zoo in the world, but it is not bad at all. Especially for the price, it definitely deserves 5 stars.

We enjoyed the afternoon with our family at this zoo. The elephant show and area was one of the highlights.

If you decide the zoo. Please don’t base it on the fact that they have a «Safari voyage» boat ride. The way the brochure is explained seemed super exciting and it was def. a deciding factor on choosing the zoo over the science Museum (next door) they said it was about a 10 – 15 min ride. By the time it was all over it has me answering one question: «Now I know why it takes 15 mins» I takes about 10 mins for it to be parked” the actual ride was about 3 – 5 mins. TOTALLY NOT WORTH 2 $ per person. And not much of a view. The strolls between animals were very lengthy. The animals looked pretty sad overall. I don’t think I’ll be visiting here again and will not be recommending it to family.

I forgot how fun it is to go to the zoo, even in Oklahoma heat! My husband and I took our kids (both under two) to the zoo on Saturday. While we weren’t able to walk the entire thing (it was too hot), we did enjoy the children’s area that encouraged play and interaction. The bird station where you can feed them nectar is a real treat, because, um, when can you ever do that?! Well definitely need to go back and attend the live events.

Everything here is too spaced out, the map sucks and barely any signs anywhere! We were lost most of the time. I have been to lots of zoos all over the
U.S and the only thing unique that I really enjoyed was the elephant show. Other than that, it was a waste of time.

This zoo is amazing! There are many different types of animals. Something for everyone to enjoy!
Recently, many of the animals have had babies… to include rhinos, elephants, orangoutangs, giraffes, & gorillas! They are so cute!
The zoo has misting stations placed at perfect intervals throughout the park to cool down as well as refreshment stations to purchase food & drinks.
The gift store is super clean and has tons of different games, stuffed animals, books and other gifts to take with you for souvenirs!

Unpleasant staff, poor signage and overpriced. Areas were under construction and not open and it was a waste of our time.
Would not recommend as an activity if you’re looking for something to do in Oklahoma City — the science center next door is a much better investment.

The Oklahoma Zoo is a treasure and a well thought out, clean, customer friendly attraction for the whole family. Our favorites today were the still nursing baby elephant and how all the adult elephants were watching over the baby like concerned aunts and grandmothers every where. The prairie dogs and their games of tag, the grizzly bears and their indifference while they napped, and our favorite was when we realized by accident that the huge Gilla Monster lizards will rush at you rapidly if you slightly rattle the feeding door to their enclosure! We almost wet our pants and we all broke into a run in different directions screaming as they very rapidly ran at us! This is a beautiful zoo, typically we see half of it each time we go with the 3 year old. DONT FORGET YOUR SUN BLOCK, stroller, lunch and drinks. Very very reasonable prices and do your research as they often have FREE DAYS!

Nickle and dime you to death zoo. It may seem cheap to get in here but you have to pay to see and do to much.
I understand that a zoo needs to make money but just charge me upfront.
Overall the zoo was clean staff was friendly.

Oklahoma city zoo has made a lot of positive progress over the last 8 years and it’s cheap! They do a pretty good job with the resources they have. You can see the various construction areas underway as they work to expand and connect the zoo to make it easier to walk around. It’s not up to par yet with the bigger city zoos but it’s getting there.

Overall, this zoo is really nice. There are a variety of animals and exhibits, including the Oklahoma Trails, which is a great way to showcase the animals that can be found in this state. I wish more zoos included an exhibit like this on local wildlife. Being a huge supporter of elephant conservation, I was thrilled to see their new habitat when it opened. Such a relatively large space for them to walk around, which is so essentially to their mental and physical health. Without stepping onto a soapbox, I will just say that most zoos have habitats far too small, which angers me. OKC Zoo did a great job here.
A couple down sides. First, the layout is poor. There is a lot of walking one way with a need to turn around to get somewhere else. Going to see the giraffes and zebras is the perfect example of this. This is quite frustrating and annoying, especially if you’re there in 90+ heat. Second, every time we are there, the vast majority of eateries are closed. The site says they are open seasonally, but it doesn’t matter what time of year we go: they are always closed. Again, frustrating and annoying, especially if you’re in one spot of the zoo, your kids are hungry, and there is nowhere nearby to eat so you have to trek it to the other side of the zoo.
That said, it still is a nice place to visit. The animals appear to be happy and healthy, which is always a great thing to see.

We have a great zoo. I get a season pass every year. I only live about 6 miles away so sometimes I bring my nephews here just to play on the playground. They have the best fresh squeezed lemonade. Try it if you haven’t! I always buy a souvenir cup and take it with me to get drink refills for $.75. I also like the water pouches they sell in the gift shop. I usually bring that with us too and re-​fill it up at the water fountains or get free water at the concession stands.
I wish they would get some more dolphins already. It’s time to upgrade the aquarium.
The big playground up front needs some sort of sunshade covering it, and it needs some shaded seating for adults. It is brutal during the summer, it’s too hot for the kids to even play on, so we usually go to the small one in the back by the carousel. It’s easier to keep track of the kids at this one.
I also don’t like the big playground for the little kids because you can’t see them when they are inside, and the wall around it is too low so it would be easy for someone to jump the wall (including the kids) and get in or out with you seeing them from the gate.

On my drive from NYC to CA, I made a pit stop in Oklahoma City for the Zoo. Yes, there are zoos in NY, but when you’re working, it’s easy to get caught up in the fast pace of work, subways, etc.
What I love about Oklahoma City Zoo?
— There’s a map of different trails from Novices to Experts
— Some cool animals to see along the way (i.e. Rhinos, Ducks, Tigers, etc)
Tip:
— Go when the weather is not so muggy. Some of the animals were hiding, so we couldn’t see them.

I love animals. All of the animals. Seriously, all of them. I wanted to see some, so the Missus and I decided to go on a field trip.
It’s $ 8 for an adult, which seemed fair to me. Cost $ 8 and up for a movie ticket, so 3 hours at the zoo seemed to be a good price for a ticket. Anywho, we arrive and proceeded to see EVERY animal in the zoo. Seriously, I’ve been to the zoo a bunch of times and have never seen the bears or the tigers. Well, the weather was perfect (70 degrees) so all of the animals were just hanging out. It was so damn cool.
The lady and I did a lot of backtracking, however. The zoo is bigger and more confusing than I remember as a kid. It didn’t bother me, though. I enjoy being outside. The zoo has truly stepped up its game. I especially enjoyed the «Native Oklahoma» exhibits. It was an entire area of the zoo dedicated to the animals of Oklahoma.
You can ask my lady… and she’ll confirm that I was all smiles at the zoo. Although, I don’t like seeing animals in cages… I still love being able to be 2 feet away from a whitetail deer. The zoo is definitely worth a visit and makes for a different and fun Saturday date with your significant other or best friend!

What a great zoo. I’ve been to the San Francisco zoo, San Diego, National zoo, but never before have I enjoyed my zoo experience as much as I have on this trip to the Oklahoma zoo.
They have a ton of exhibits open and new ones coming soon. Lots of snakes and the bats were really cool to watch as they ate their dinner.
Loved the big and small cats exhibit and the gorillas and chimpanzees. I was impressed to see the little one (Mika I think it was) who adapted very well to only having one arm. Very strong bond between them all too.
The otter is my favorite animal and the two I saw here were extremely interactive so that was awesome.
It was great to see the two bald eagles, sad how they arrived there (neither can fly due to injury) but it was cool that the zoo dubbed them ambassadors!
I also loved the black bear, even though he wasn’t really interested in any of the people who were interested in him. Lol. He was beautiful to look at.
I could go on about all the animals cause I loved them all, I won’t though… every one of them are worth the price of admission and I highly recommend the OKC zoo. I will be back for sure.
Today was muggy, foggy, and there was some mild drizzle (though Rex the Asian elephant didn’t seem to mind) and we got there a bit late but in 3 hours I think we managed to get a lot in. I will return on a nicer day when possibly more exhibits are open and some shows or feedings are available to see.
All in all I couldn’t give this zoo any less than 5 stars.

*AMINALS!
*Affordable (nevermind the food. That nonsense is overpriced at any amusement park or attraction).
*Misters to keep you cooled off.
*Expansive! A lot of walking, but a good kind of walking.
*Nice exhibits. Well set up and the indoor ones are so very air conditioned.
*The site is easy to navigate and lists the daily/​weekly/​monthly activities and events. Plan accordingly if you’re interested in that stuff! Some is free, some costs money.
*Construction. Nope, not a con! This means that they’re adding more to our zoo! Currently, they are working on a larger veterinary hospital.
Cons:
*Just to be fair. Food prices. Like I said before, most places have expensive prices.
