On A Whim

Honestly, I have no complaints about On a Whim. I don’t always get up to Classen Curve, but this place is now one of my faves. While there are all the trinkets, home goods, and fashionables a girl could need, my heart is with the stationery and entertaining items. After attending an awesome Classen Curve event, I found myself back at On a Whim to pick up a kate spade Bowl to go with my appetizer plates
Not only did the manager and team remember me from the event, but my name too — and it’s not an easy one!
Oh, and did I mention I had my 2-​year-​old with me? He listens pretty well, so I wasn’t worried about him knocking something over, or breaking an item mama would have to buy. The manager was a complete peach to my boy, even asking him if she could give him some sample cookies they had. So sweet!
The staff here is super friendly, and there are great finds!

Gifts and ladies clothes galore. Some of the most beautiful upscale chic women’s jeans I’ve ever seen. I had my eye on some really beautiful custom chopping boards for the house with laser engraved family initials included with a juice catcher carved surface and solid rubber feet so you don’t have to chase the chopping board around on your counter as you slice your garlic infused, freshly ground Himalayan salt and peppercorn pepper rubbed prime rib… really nice! The attendants were very friendly, pleasant, helpful, smelled great, and full of spot on ideas for shopping some of their favorites in the store which I always enjoy. Again the selection of ladies clothes were really really on point with some very very trendy upscale and some classically beautiful items. The store also sells these large button size chocolate chip cookies that made me kind of go into a chocolate haze trance… DELICIOUS! I didn’t dare point the cookies out to my wife! This evening the store hosted us for a Unilocal event and really treated us very generously handing out swag bags with all sorts of goodies and even a makeup/​bathroom bag! We were fortunate enough to win a $ 100 gift card here which will be great when we return! Thanks Unilocal and ON A WHIM!

I’ve had several lovely experiences with On A Whim, and only just realized I’d never reviewed them. First of all, I’ve received some of my favorite gifts ever from here, including some lovely entertaining plates from their Kate Spade line, and more recently, Milkbarn baby gifts and my favorite Jellycat stuffed animals for baby June, from Uncle Ferris.
But I’ve also enjoyed shopping here as a customer, but almost exclusively for gifts — wedding, hostess, and special birthday gifts. From a wonderful selection of beautiful dishes and linens, to all manner of candles and home décor, this is my go-​to stop when I know I need to take a gift but I have no idea what to take! I know that sounds nebulous, but it’s true! Bookmark this as a go-​to gift store. When in doubt, On A Whim.
I’ve never really shopped their clothing, but perhaps that is because I always come here when I’m looking for something special for other people!
I think I may need to start coming here to treat myself to something special.

Every time I’ve been in this store, I leave sad because the staff is so incredibly rude! They look you up and down, they don’t smile-that’s no way to run a retail business. I was glad to see it wasn’t just me and other reviewers are in agreement. I was given a gift card to this store and absolutely dreaded going in to use it. It’s a shame because they have nice things, just extremely rude employees. I guess they only want a specific customer type.

I have visited this store off and on since its opening, hoping that, as time went by, the customer service would get better. It hasn’t.
I visited today and was ignored the entire time I was in the store. I understand it’s a busy time of the year but I saw employees talking to one another and milling around. My experience was such a turnoff that I left and I definitely don’t think I will return (and it’s a shame because On A Whim has really cute clothing and home décor).

I shop here often, in fact almost every piece of Mackenzie-Child’s I own comes from this store. The sales staff is helpful without being pushy. They are quick to hold items behind the register so you can continue shopping with free hands. Besides their amazing collection of MC items they also carry unique jewelry lines, fabulous baby gifts and the Le Cadeaux line of outdoor serve-​ware.
The store is always clean and well stocked. Plenty of staff to help you and great sales makes this store one of my favorites.

I visit the store about 3 – 4 times a year. Mainly just special occasions and holiday. Every time that I have visited I have received not only inattentive service but rude service. Disappointing b/​c they carry a couple of items that I can’t get anywhere else, but I dread spending money and receiving bad service. Just puts a damper in my shopping mood.

I love On a Whim. Yes, it’s expensive and that’s OK.
I ordered Mackenzie-​Childs sinks, tiles and knobs for some bathrooms a couple of years ago and they were perfectly professional and on time with delivery. I’ve also called for some custom decorative items and they did their best to track down the makers and find exactly what I needed.
I’m currently addicted to their very fancy Lafco candle line. The fragrance selection is out of control and each candle is in a beautiful, heavy art glass container. So a great gift as well.
Clothing I would keep for a sale — which they have frequently. You can certainly find tons of special gifts at On a Whim, especially gifts for yourself. It’s fun, girly, pretty and I love this store!

If zero were an option I would consider it. They get 1 star because they carry great clothes. The other 4 stars they DON’T get are for how LAZY their staff is. Unbelievable. What’s the point in having 7 sales associates if every single one of them sits on that couch and chats? Do your job!
