Couldn’t be any easier or pleasant, unless they did everything for me!
I used the app & had absolutely no wait! Clerk was very friendly and helpful. Facility was very clean. I felt sorry for the folks that were walking in and signing up to be in line when they arrived.
I recommend that you download & use the app, «Q Less» so you can «get in line» while you’re at home. You can find it on the DMV page.

I know all of the jokes about the DMV. While ours might not be as bad as states like California where you have to make appointments weeks in advance, my recent experiences were not great. I do greatly appreciate the ability to get in line online. It is an amazing system when used correctly. I got to the DMV when it said I had 10 minutes left to wait. I was around 10^th in line. For the next 95 minutes I bounced between 5^th in line and 17^th in line. What would happen is that people would miss their appointment, come in, show their text to the gentleman running the information desk, and he’d put them at the front of the line. This is where the system completely broke down. One guy said he got there when he had 30 minutes left to wait, and had been there over two hours. The other frustrating part was watching employees take 3 – 10 minutes between every customer they’d help. They’d wrap up with one person, and then look at their smartphones, go get a drink, talk to their coworkers, and then finally hit the button to get the next person in line. Since so many people were missing their turns, they’d sit there looking around for several minutes like the person would magically appear. If you are already putting people who missed their turns to the front of the line, why wait several minutes for them to appear? Just move on! They had around 10 people working the day I went, and at exactly noon, 6 of them just got up and went to lunch. I understand people have to eat lunch, but stagger them out a little! I know, I know, government and efficiency, but it was super frustrating. After waiting over an hour and half, my number was finally next. A gentleman walked in right as my number was called, and he started to just bee line over to the window. I stepped in front of him, and he just kinda moved back a little. Then the lady a couple of windows down called for the next number, and he stepped up and started working with her. About 10 – 15 seconds latter an elderly woman walked up, and shows the text that she was the one called to the window. Didn’t even phase this guy. He pretended to have misheard the number, and the DMV just put the elderly woman to the front of the line. It was a super rude move, but given how many people were just straight up missing their appointments it was not a bad tactic. I hated him for doing it, but could respect it at the same time. In summary: online line waiting is awesome, until you get there and it isn’t. I’d recommend going really early in the morning, or going next door to the Goodcents, getting a sandwich, and enjoying a really really leisurely lunch while you wait.

Technology puts your wait time to a minimum if you have all of your paper work.
And no crying babies or screaming children this time.

Yep, that’s right, four stars. I traded in my vehicle and wanted to keep my plate. I brought all documents I could think of with me.
Walked up to the kiosk to check in. I didn’t text to check in since it was a spur if the moment type of errand. I clicked on the English option and typed in my phone number. The start screen shows again if I want to use English our Spanish. I’m left standing there wondering if it processed my information. Since I play with electronics all day I quickly caught on that the bigger monitors hanging from the ceiling show the last 4 digits of the phone number in the order of the virtual line I’m now in. People less tech inclined would stand at the kiosk and enter their number a couple of times before realizing this. If they would correct this, they would earn 5 stars.
Waited about 30 minutes and was called to window 4. Adrian was very helpful and even waited for me as I had to call the dealership to have them send a corrected sales tax document. Yep, as of April 1 JoCo now has an 8.875% sales tax. …yikes.
Compared to other places I’ve lived in very efficient and friendly. And if you can, text before showing up to save time!

People hate this place, right? I know… people do. I’ve rarely had trouble with the DMV though. Why? (1) I find out EXACTLY what I need to bring, and (2) I get there 30 minutes before they open. As such, this past Monday, I was third in the door and was at the counter immediately.
The lady I worked with was a bit grumpy at first, but I got her to smile and laugh later. And we did spend a lot of time together… the systems went down and it took an hour to process anything. «This is why people hate us here,» she said. Yeah, pretty much… but it wasn’t her fault specifically.
So, of course, the DMV will never be a place you WANT to go to. But if you have the necessary paperwork and get there early enough, it can be quick and painless.

Low score. obviously, its the DMV. Did the get in line thing online — is just is what it is.

I got one of the most feared pieces of mail that one individual can tolerate, the dreaded driver’s license renewal! AGH!!!
the thought of drudging to the DMV, to wait and wait and be snipped at because you inevitably didn’t bring all the right items with you! the thought haunted me for weeks. Finally with a big sigh, I took the day off work and was present at the Great Mall office 30 minutes after opening. Didn’t want to be in the first wave pounding on the door before they open.
I was elated, there was only about 20 people waiting and I was second in line to the check in window. NEVER think its going to go your way!
when I got to the lady, who was very nice and trying to be helpful… I don’t want to cast any blame on her… she asked me if I had texted in…
NO I don’t text-don’t even own a smart phone, Well guess what, I was 185^th in line for the day already 30 mn after opening. Call back to the office in 7 hrs and see if we can get to you today or not, After I took the day off work. Bull crap to that. If this is supposed to be the most crowded & wealthiest county in the state they need to staff it as such.
I went away cussing under my breath with my little number, wondering how people other than me, who are technology balking could survive around here.
I did some investigating and driver’s licence renewals, when you don’t have a CDL or a conceal and carry permit, can be done statewide. 2 hr later I am walking out of a neighboring county licence office with my next 6 years of dealing with the DMV behind me. When I arrived I was 5^th in line, no texting, no technology.
The small towner in me is alive and kicking.

Courtesy and a pleasant attitude are hard to come by, and you certainly can’t come up with it. Here to license a new vehicle and a little confused about how it all works. Would it have been too much to be greeted with a smile and a pleasant, helpful attitude, rather than, «What are you here for?» and a completely blank countenance and seeming irritation with us? Would it have been problem to speak up so we could hear you? It hurts to part with a great deal of money to license a new car, and would it have hurt you or your world to greet your customer with a smile and common courtesy? Yes, you wait on people all day, but that’s your job, isn’t it? I wonder how you kept your face glued in that uncaring expression. And being rude isn’t good karma, you know…
