The Mahaffie Stagecoach Stop and Farm Historic Site offers a unique hands on experience for visitors of all ages focusing on 1860s farming, frontier life and stagecoach travel while preserving the nationally significant Mahaffie Story. Mahaffie is the last remaining stagecoach stop open to the public on the Santa Fe Trail.
History
Established in 1985.
In 1857, the Mahaffie family moved from Indiana to the promising new settlement of Olathe, KS. It was an age of opportunity on the frontier. It was also a time of uncertainty and danger on the Kansas/Missouri border in the years before the actual Civil War began. Exhibits and videos in the visitor center tell these stories year-round, while living history activities and stagecoach operations bring the 1865 stone farmhouse and outbuildings to life in the Spring, Summer and Fall.
Experience the same sights, sounds, and smells as travelers on the Kansas frontier in the years after the Civil War. Discover a working 19th century farm with horses and other livestock where your family can engage in some of the activities that were part of the daily life for the Mahaffie family and their neighbors. Activities and admission vary by season.
