I began my combat training when I was 10 years old with my Father, a trainer with the Army for 22 years. At 16 began studying Shotokan Karate, later expanding my training to several other styles. I hold a 3rd degree Black Belt in Shindo Jinen Ryu, as well as advanced belts in Shotokan Karate, Goju-Ryu, and Aikido. For over 30 years I have combined reality-based combat training with the following traditional Martial Arts:
Shotokan Karate
Jujitsu
Aikido
Goju-Ryu Karate
Tai-jitsu (Ninjitsu)
Shindo Jinen Ryu Karate (primary style)
While I have dedicated a great deal of time to teaching traditional Martial Arts, my specialty has always been self-defense and combat training. My most recent instructor was a former Military Intelligence Officer. Through him I learned to disregard the flashy, complicated techniques that look good, but only work 20% of the time. Instead, I only employ techniques that have been used and tested over and over again in real life-threatening situations.
